AIBU to cancel my cleaner

Because of coronavirus. She cleans weekly for us.
If she is sick we will be too.
I feel bad doing it to her and we need cleaners services badly.
And yet, if she is ill we will be too.

Is she ill?

GinDrinker00 · 06/03/2020 21:09

Are you planning to self isolate and not go outside? If not YABU.

HarrietThePi · 06/03/2020 21:09

I don't understand why you would? Unless you're staying home and avoiding contact with everyone else in the world too?

Herpesfreesince03 · 06/03/2020 21:09

Are you alone in the house? Not ever going out and no one ever coming in? Why do you think this one person is going to catch it?

Northernsoullover · 06/03/2020 21:10

I'm a cleaner and I was chatting to a client about this. I said given that a) neither of us have symptoms and b) I am cleaning we should be ok.
I have changed my products to a bleach based one (I'm cautious not to spray the soft furnishings) and I am paying particular attention to door handles etc in peoples houses.
Don't cancel her. We have to carry on as normal unless told otherwise.

StealthPolarBear · 06/03/2020 21:11

Has she been abroad?
Would you continue to pay her?

halcyondays · 06/03/2020 21:12

Yabu unless she’s just back from Northern Italy or somewhere.

Toybox88 · 06/03/2020 21:12

Does she have coronavirus?

Obsidian77 · 06/03/2020 21:15

How would she make you ill? Do you follow her around?
Unless you're immune-compromised or similar, YABVU

Toogramtogiveadamn · 06/03/2020 21:17

Are you going to stop going out altogether?

IsisCam · 06/03/2020 21:17

Does she have coronavirus?
She might have coronavirus, yeah. So might I, or my primary school dcs.

So will most of us by the end of this year.

I am pretty confident we will soon be told to stay home (work in academia and there will be no next term).

My question is, when we are told to stay home, should I cancel her services?

Can’t people use the Coronavirus topic for this shit to we don’t all have to open the thread to see it?

JasonBrun · 06/03/2020 21:19

Only if you're prepared to pay her for your paranoia. Otherwise you're a pretty shitty employer.

Sillyscrabblegames · 06/03/2020 21:19

Does she have corona virus or is this a preventative attempt?
It is spread from close contact not from environments so I don't think cancelling her would be any use at all

PatchworkElmer · 06/03/2020 21:21

YABU, unless she has it!!

If you’re thinking of cancelling because you’re feeling very anxious, I would ask her not to come but I’d still pay her- she shouldn’t lose out because of it.

DamnYouAutoCarrot · 06/03/2020 21:22

Let's just cancel life in general. You know 'just incase' 🙄

fearney · 06/03/2020 21:22

Get yourself some gas masks or put plastic bags over your heads when she's there.

fearney · 06/03/2020 21:24

voilà

AIBU to cancel my cleaner
Serin · 06/03/2020 21:24

You are being ridiculous.

ByeMF · 06/03/2020 21:24

Thank god I'm poor and don't have these dilemmas.
No, of course you shouldn't sack your cleaner. Are you still going to work? Are you still going out socialising? Are you still nipping to the shops?

BanginChoons · 06/03/2020 21:27

Will you need her to do your cleaning if you are at home? Is there a disability you haven't told us about which means you won't be able to do it yourself?

Maybe she won't want to clean for you in case you give her something?

ButtWormHole · 06/03/2020 21:27

Lol

IsisCam · 06/03/2020 21:28

Just to say I know it sounds completely pathetic. And obviously a shitty thing to do to the cleaner.
However say you are told to work from home and schools are closed.
Would you still employ a cleaner?

Jesus.

Growingboys · 06/03/2020 21:30

YABVVU

I'm amazed you can even ask this. What if you or your husband were sacked in case they gave it to the boss?

Honestly some people!
