AIBU to cancel my cleaner

Because of coronavirus. She cleans weekly for us.
If she is sick we will be too.
I feel bad doing it to her and we need cleaners services badly.
And yet, if she is ill we will be too.

Can this PLEASE be moved to coronavirus topic.

I'm sick of opening threads and reading coronavirous shit.

I'm reporting it.

Fuck sake!

Get a grip!

hotdog44 · 06/03/2020 22:56

Well the answer here is perfectly simple! You will have to learn to clean your house yourself! Problem solved!

saraclara · 06/03/2020 23:12

If you've got yourself over-anxious about this, then ask her not to come. But pay her 100% of her wage.
Your over-reaction shouldn't be her problem.

While continuing to pay the cleaner of course as others demand on the thread because I was cheeky enough to once outsource this important job. Shock

Bonkers. Yes cancel everything and live in the cellar for 3 months. good luck.

I am actually not at all anxious, but I am sure having a cleaner in my house once my office and my kids schools are closed makes no sense.

Haven’t read the whole thread but I’m planning on cancelling my cleaner if it all, spreads. I WILL pay her though.

I don’t want to be exposed if I don’t need to be. I’ve stocked up and as a family we can easily stay home.

She can’t. Her husband is self employed so needs to continue and she helps him.

So I’ll tell her not to come in but I’ll still, pay her. I know I’ll be in minority about paying though.

Are your office and kids school really going to be closed next week? Or maybe the week after. Or will it be the week after that? In a months time? in two moths time? Or in July? Yup sack the cleaner and get used to your new reality. You are housebound and are suffering from vitamin D deficiency. We got through the war as a nation for 6 years so I guess we will get through the latest flu strain.

atomicnotsoblonde · 06/03/2020 23:34

Hell would freeze over before I cancelled my cleaner!

saraclara · 06/03/2020 23:35

Your OP said nothing about cancelling your cleaner IF/WHEN your kids' school and your workplace is closed. You said AIBU to cancel my cleaner.
I think you're backpedalling.

IsisCam · 06/03/2020 23:50

I’ve been to meetings across the capital all week, 12 tubes yesterday alone. No mask. No symptoms. I’m fine.
Congrats! This proves you are invincible to the virus. Maybe stop washing your hands too, might just be a way to supercharge your immune system.
On to the next busy commuter week then and don’t forget to pay a visit to an elderly aunt or an asthmatic friend. Without mask of course, they are proven to be ineffective.
Hope the meetings are worth it Wink

So this question is only in case your employer tells you to work from home ?

If you are still being paid, then you should pay her too

SnoozyLou · 07/03/2020 00:24

If you continue to pay her, YABR.

daisychain01 · 07/03/2020 07:50

My question is, when we are told to stay home, should I cancel her services?

My cleaner and I had a conversation yesterday - that we are both responsible adults, we take a risk based approach (following the Govt CMO guidelines on hand washing, use of tissues, cleanliness in the home and minimise public gatherings* etc) and if either of us needed at any point to self-isolate then we would communicate by phone and not put each other at risk. My cleaner works for several elderly clients, so she's being extra careful.

I said if she has to self-isolate I will pay her. I don't want her worrying about how she's going to manage without income. Several other clients have also supported her.

OP, these are my circumstances, my cleaner deserves to be supported because she's a hard working person who I value, is reliable week in, week out, and highly trusted in this community. You have to make your own decision based on your personal situation and whether your cleaner is someone you want to support.

The self-employed are going to be massively impacted in our economy. I can wfh, I get sick pay. I want to pass on something to others who don't have such financial protection.

daisychain01 · 07/03/2020 07:57

Fab, the seedy side of minimum wage zero hours! Pull the plug any time you like. Save yourself a few quid. When the virus is sorted turn the tap back on again. Youza!

You've lost me on this one OP. Behind that is a human being who you wanted a service from, and now you're thinking of discarding them like sneezed-in tissue. Think about it!

bellinisurge · 07/03/2020 07:58

As long as you continue to pay her.

unluckyagain · 07/03/2020 07:59

By all means cancel her if it makes you feel more comfortable, but you should continue to pay her. It would be disgraceful behaviour if you didn't.

Wifeofbikerviking · 07/03/2020 08:07

Dont be daft. And yes its shitty. My sisters a cleaner and if her customers started doing this to her she would quickly have financial problems

LargeGinOnTap · 07/03/2020 13:35

I've reported this thread too.

It's threads like this which are adding to the panic and hysteria

Crunchymum · 07/03/2020 14:34

@IsisCam

I am pretty confident we will soon be told to stay home (work in academia and there will be no next term).

Can you elaborate? What do you know that we don't?

Starbuck8419 · 07/03/2020 16:19

I’m a cleaner and if you sacked me off because of your paranoia then yes, I’d be fucked off.
If however, you are vulnerable or have someone you see regularly who is then I could understand not letting me come over if I’m sick.
I clean for 80 plus year olds with bad health and let them know so they can make their minds up but to be perfectly frank, the amount of chemicals I use on a daily basis, I’m surprised I’m not fucking pickled!

SnoozyLou · 07/03/2020 16:21

@Starbuck8419 😂

Reginabambina · 07/03/2020 16:24

@grudieabbey the university I went to didn’t have a summer term (not for my course anyway). Teaching was condensed into two terms then we had a long break and exams.

Starbuck8419 · 07/03/2020 16:24
