To have just stocked up on loo roll and canned foods

Just been to tesco and brought loads of loo roll, cans rice and pasta, got home and dh has said im overreacting.

Aibu, this is stuff we already use just a bit more of it.

I have just done the same but only with stuff we will eat/drink anyway eg squash, beans, pasta etc

I'm wondering how many folk are going to be stuck with excess food etc due to panic buying due to Brexit and this Corona virus? I've probably not spelled it correctly but I dont care

Ehh we have a bunch of Brexit supplies that we have been slowly working our way through, and I have done a couple of big coronavirus shops too. We'll use it all either way.

I agree with stocking up on loo rolls , I get the fear of running out when I get down to my last 12 pack but its nothing to do with anything going on in Britain, lots of wasteful girls here in my family that use almost a full roll everytime so yanbu on that account

We are making sure our home supplies don’t get low. So normally I wouldn’t buy loo roll until we are at the very end of the package, now I am buying as soon as we break into the package. Same with food. I normally keep a very lean pantry because I know myself and know things will get wasted otherwise. Same with the cat litter and dd’s over the counter, but doctor prescribed allergy meds. Distinctly not hoarding, just shifting my buying point.

OP, if it makes you feel better and you can use the stuff later then I don't see why it is an issue.

I have picked up extra things and considering what to buy in future foodshops in terms of having variety in as we do not know which supply chains will be slowed down yet. Many of us will need to self-isolate over the next 6 weeks so it doesn't hurt to have easy to prepare and eat food that we like readily available.

For those saying that there are multiple threads on the same issue, don't open them. The title says what they are about!

No you aren't unreasonable to do so. We should all really have a emergency backup! For financial loss, health or other - especially if you are on benefits!

I don't really get it. I'm in Korea and despite having hundreds more cases than the UK, the supermarkets have everything in stock and no one is buying more than usual.

I can only conclude that British people buy into media hysteria more readily than Koreans.

And also that everyone buys massive packs of toilet roll anyway (dunno why, for some reason, you can only buy packs of 30 here, even though the houses are tiny.)

I've just made sure we have at least two weeks supply of stuff in, just in case we need to self isolate I don't want to have to run out of loo roll on top of that!

I told my husband to replace the cold/flu stuff he used before Christmas. That's it, prep is done. I only asked him to do that because he's very prone to cold/flu and has asthma.

Keep calm and carry on. Preferably by having tea and cake.

My DH has just tried to buy a pack of loo rolls, as a normal routine purchase ie we are down to last two. Empty shelves. Bloody preppers and panickers.

The shops would have to be very bare before I'd want to subsist on tinned food.

Its neither reasonable or unreasonable to buy whatever you want OP, within reason of course if you have any consideration for others.

Threada like these are very unreasonable though and you're heavily contributing to a culture of panic by going out of your way to post about it. I think people are best off managing their personal worries privately here tbh, and thinking of others as the motivation which shouldn't be that hard. Think of the effect it has, both on the amount who see yet another thread and go off and panic buy, or thr effect on those who suffer with anxiety generally, or those who are reading who are in an older age bracket or immune compromised, for whom this is a far more legitimate concern than those who keep seeing bloody mumsnet buying toilet roll or bottled water so think they need to go and nab some.
