somehow ended up 750 Tylenol (Paracetamol) gel caps
We bulk buy acetaminophen (paracetamol) whenever we’re in the USA. Glad we were there in October!
I’m not a prepper by any means but it seems sensible to me to have enough food & groceries in to last for a month. That’s only double what I’d normally have. That way, when we have to hole up (and it’s likely we will) we won’t need to rely on the supermarket supply chains, leaving more capacity for those who don’t have the luxury of being able to be prepared.
I think the idea of everyone just being able to order nice things from Ocado when half the population is sick or looking after their sick is pretty delusional.

You can order nice things from Ocado now. I'm just wondering why everyone is stocking up on beans and pasta when they normally eat a more varied diet. I could feed the two of us for over 3 weeks on what I keep in stock to make provision for unexpected guests. Sainsburys had very full shelves this morning, so hopefully all the panic buying will be out of the way now, and the preppers will have full cupboards anyway.

FFS! the shops are full, Sainsburys was full this morning and Waitrose at lunch time, (popped in for a relation) I have no cancellations on my Ocado list this week which includes toilet rolls. Do the panic buyers honestly think that the major supermarkets are doing nothing to keep supplies available. I presume the panic buying is now done - how many toilet rolls does one family need? Hopefully all this is now an irrelevance.

@Astrabees just to point out that this isn’t true everywhere - my local (very big) Sainsbury’s has completely sold out of loo roll, most tissues, all liquid hand wash apart from two Sainsbury’s own brand (which I think were damaged) and some bars of soap. I asked them when they’re next expecting a delivery and they said in a few hours, but it all gets sold very quickly so doubt there will be any left by the evening. It’s been like this for about a week and a half.
Boots (also big) completely sold out of all hand wash.
Waitrose mostly sold out of loo roll (but were restocking) and had no specifically “antibac” handwash left but some stock of eco friendly branded ones.
Obviously no hand sanitiser in any of these stores.
Just to add the other side of the picture!

You can order a online shop if you are self isolating? I don’t see why people are panic buying huge amounts of loo roll, I usually have a couple weeks worth in stock anyway and do a weekly online shop which I can still do if unwell or isolating.
I probably have enough crap in the cupboards to feed us for a fortnight if I really had too.

You know that the person who drives the lorry to the store, the person who picks the shopping and the person who delivers it to your door might also be self isolating don't you? There is a fundemantal flaw in the home delivery solution.
bellinisurge · 05/03/2020 15:51
What if the delivery drivers have to self isolate or their kids schools do and there aren't enough delivery drivers to go around.
Op, would've been better to do it in affordable dribs and drabs starting weeks ago but it wasn't on your radar so you couldn't and didn't.
Simple solution, your dh can sort himself out for food and bog roll if he has to self isolate at short notice.

Yes, our local supermarket staff are reassuringly posting on the local Facebook pages that they have contingency plans that they are putting into operation and that there will be not be shortages. I must be very dense that I hadn't twigged the hand sanitisers were being bought up and sold on ebay. In my office we found a huge container under the sink we had forgotten about, so our staff can refill their empty little bottles from it. we were told that in this county there was none available for social care as it had all been diverted to the hospitals. We have wiped everything down withDetol Surface cleaning wipes that actually say on the back of the packet they are effective against coronavirus.
