There's often been differences of why people think the US launched its attack on Iran.

Al Jazerra interview on currently, In which, Rubio clearly states and restated it was due to Iran's progress towards nuclear weapons. He stated that the US will never allow Iran to have nuclear weapons since the danger is too great.

He said there are outcomes that they would like such as regime change but the primary motive has always been to stop Iran from development of nuclear weapons.

He also stated there are messages and direct talks taking place between parties in the US and Iran.

Meanwhile, Trump has again threatened to blow up power stations if Iran doesn't open up the Straits of Hormuz.

I honestly think everyone in that administration is so full of utter bullshit that nothing that comes out of any of their mouths is worth the paper I'd wipe my ass with.
They'll say the aim of the war is whatever they feel at that moment in time is most likely to be achieved.

HeddaGarbled · 30/03/2026 19:45

We know they all lie but I’m slightly more inclined to believe Rubio than Trump or bullshit Barbie. Though if Trump tells Rubio to lie, he will.

You can’t believe anything coming out of Iran either.

I’m not really taking any notice of anything that comes out of the mouths of these untrustworthy people.

Martymcfly24 · 30/03/2026 20:00

"We knew that there was going to be an Israeli action; we knew that that would precipitate an attack against American forces, and we knew that if we didn’t preemptively go after them before they launched those attacks, we would suffer higher casualties," Rubio said.

That's what he said four weeks ago.

Ihatetomatoes · 30/03/2026 20:11

I thought his interview, which was quite long, seemed rational and clear. Whether people believe him or not, it's what he states. He further chatted about where he personally saw the war going etc. Also chatted NATO and the future.

Iran don't really do interviews. Not even sure if their current leader is even alive.

So what or who do people believe at the moment?

I don’t believe anything Israel or US have to say about this war, and US change their tune every day anyway. There’s nothing to believe or disbelieve about Iran’s part is there? I don’t think they say much, what can they say? They do take the piss out of Trump now and again though - but so does the whole world.

HeddaGarbled · 30/03/2026 20:18

He does come across as more rational than Trump and Hegseth but they’re so deranged, it’s not difficult.

What do I believe? We’re at the mercy of madmen and anything could happen and NOBODY knows what that will be, including Trump.

I think whoever is in the IRGC still are just trying to survive and will lob something at ships in the Strait every so often if they can.

PerkingFaintly · 30/03/2026 20:26

What do I think?

I think Rubio's trying out post-facto "explanations" to see if one lands well.

I think Donald is spouting any old shit that's in his head, which varies from day to day.

I think I don't know what assorted "reasons" in the US and Israeli administrations really tipped them over into launching these attacks. As so many previous posters have said, can't believe a word which comes out of any of their mouths.

Trump gets a cut of the arms deals with Israel, Saudi Arabia and other ME allies. Making sure there’s lots of demand in the region makes him personally richer.

Not just power stations, a desalination plant as well

I'm not listening to anything anyone part of the Trump admin is saying. I'm just watching what they do instead. I'm fascinated to know if they'll put boots on the ground. A month ago I'd have bet anything against it. Now I don't know.

I also watch open mouthed often and wonder what is next and where it is going.

I agree war makes some richer but it also costs billions to wage a war (human cost much higher but putting aside fir the moment). Firing missiles cost a huge amount.

I do believe that there is genuine concern over Iran obtaining nuclear weapons. Moreover, than any other country. I think their random attacks on peaceful neighbours show they care little for any country, including middle east countries who aren't attacking them. Hence, extremely unpredictable.

I find it’s better not to follow it all and agree with pp it’s really what do the troops do.

LeTourEiFFEL · 30/03/2026 21:35

Of course Iran getting a nuke is a huge worry for us all imagine how they can hold us to ransom with one just looking at what they do without one!

I also agree re the massive cost of this war. There is a rumour that the USA are running out of various items which cost eye watering sums to make.

Trump and the republicans risk being booted out and never trusted again over this.

Again do we care ? No but it's a huge risk. They will all look callous and foolish.

Eyesopenwideawake · 30/03/2026 21:38

It's interesting the Nick Ferrari, the Mail/Telegraph loving LBC breakfast show host said that he now believes Iran over the US...

Wow.

I don't like or trust Trump but Iran are a whole different level! The way they slaughtered their own people in large numbers for just protesting! Crazy regime.

Imagine Iran with nuclear weapons. Shows you how bad things are when people say they trust a religious regime over a democratic country, even if its run by a buffoon

The market has also stopped listening to Trump.

Yesterday the Iranian speaker tweeted and today a lot of investors followed his advice:

Yep I don’t get the trust Iran stuff. Madness

I think the US press conferences are just filler and it’s down to what actually happens.
