There's often been differences of why people think the US launched its attack on Iran.

Al Jazerra interview on currently, In which, Rubio clearly states and restated it was due to Iran's progress towards nuclear weapons. He stated that the US will never allow Iran to have nuclear weapons since the danger is too great.

He said there are outcomes that they would like such as regime change but the primary motive has always been to stop Iran from development of nuclear weapons.

According to the 2025 U.S. National Security Strategy, the strikes "significantly degraded" Iran's nuclear program, while the 2026 National Defense Strategy stated the strikes "obliterated" the program.
The U.S. intelligence community has for years assessed that Iran could have the capability to produce nuclear weapons at some point, but also that Tehran halted its nuclear weapons program in late 2003 and had not mastered all of the necessary technologies for building such weapons. U.S. intelligence has also consistently assessed that Tehran has not reauthorized the development of nuclear weapons.

Israel's Benjamin Netanyahu has warned of an imminent threat from an Iranian nuclear bomb for more than 30 years.

They didn't. Israel, emboldened by their success in Gaza, have taken the opportunity to sort out their age old adversary, Iran. An easily manipulated fool, aka Trump, is being used to facilitate this. It's a shame if US soldiers have to die in order to fight someone else's war, not to mention footing the bill.

Do you feel pretty certain they can’t do it still? Well before this happened.

I only saw the power plant threat, so couldn't comment on the other

Edited

You have now seen Trump's own post with the threat and there is this from Leavitt's press conference

Leavitt is asked about Trump's threat earlier today to "possibly" destroy "all desalinisation plants" in Iran, and why the president would threaten an action that would likely be considered a war crime.

Desalinisation plants, which convert salt water into drinking water, are crucial for civilian water security in the region.

"Of course this administration and the United States Armed Forces will always act within the confines of the law," Leavitt says.
"But with respect to achieving the full objectives of Operation Epic Fury, President Trump is going to move forward unabated, and he expects the Iranian regime to make a deal with the Administration."

When asked again what objective bombing a desalinisation plant would achieve, Leavitt does not answer.

’all of their Electric Generating Plants, Oil Wells and Kharg Island (and possibly all desalination plants!)’

Thanks. It changes all the time

Yes just read what another poster shared. I feel for the poor people there. Hopefully they won't go through with the threats

That's opinion though, rather than fact.

Ive heard commentators say that Iran gas enriched Uranium far in excess of what is required for general power. So why enrich so far (past 60%) if not aiming for nuclear capability?

OP posts:
SanFranBear · 30/03/2026 22:20

Perhaps Trump shouldn't have pulled the US out of the Iran Deal during his first term then - if he was so worried about them developing weapons! Fucking idiot...

Ihatetomatoes · 30/03/2026 22:20

"According to the IAEA, Iran possessed, before June 2025, 184 kilograms of uranium enriched to 20% and 440 kilograms of uranium enriched to 60%, stored at various sites, including the Isfahan facility."

Why if not aiming to use as weapons?

Yes, I think most think he's either an idiot, or he changes direction with the wind.

That’s not needed for civilian use, so you have a point.

PinkCatCushion · 30/03/2026 22:22

It’s bizarre as President Fart previously said he had bigly obliterated Iran’s nuclear capabilities.

Yes, it was discussed by experts in that field, that it's not necessary to enrich that much unless for weapons. So at least proves Rubio's point.

Most seem to agree that Iran shouldn't have nuclear for weapons sonce far too unpredictable.

I don’t trust Trump to be in charge of a nuclear weapon I don’t see why the US should think they have any moral authority on who else does when they’ve elected a complete lunatic.

I don’t think any leader would think them having those weapons is a good idea.
