Israel attacked Iran early on Saturday morning, saying it had “launched a pre-emptive strike against Iran to remove threats to the state of Israel,” according to a military spokesman.

Israel closed its airspace and declared a state of emergency, in anticipation of
Iranian drone and missile strikes in response.

Explosions were heard in Tehran on Saturday, Iranian media reported.

One thing we can be certain of, is that there were no women on the board of experts.

This is very true!

It's seriously taking the piss that there is literally zero anti missile capability at RAF Akrotiri- the Iranians can pretty much lob what they like at the airbase and there is nothing to stop them.

Don't get me started on the UK and Ground Based Air Defence (GBAD).

Back in the day the UK/some of HM Forces airfields were protected by medium range (Bloodhound) and sometimes additional short range SAM systems (Rapier)...all gone....peace dividend....etc...

It's been ?4 years since the Ukraine conflict started.

We have seen demonstration after demonstration of what drones can do

Since then lots of talk and even contracts handed out but in practical, deployable terms, zilch apart from those type 45s..

This is very true!

Perhaps Europe and the Uk may now finally get involved on the grounds that Iran are not following a diversity and inclusion policy in the selection of their leaders.

Apparently a missile strike in Terhan has taken out all the senior Mullahs gathered to elect the next Ayatollah, seeing as the first replacement has been killed already.

I read it has taken out a lot of them, not all of them.

And yes @KatiePricesKnickers I'm sure no women were harmed in the killings of the board of experts!

The US has now cut all trade deals with Spain after their refusal to allow the use of the military bases.

Seriously what is Spain even doing in NATO - they have one of the lowest defence spends in NATO at 1.2% of GDP.

If say Morocco forcibly tried to take Ceuta, there is absolutely no way any other country should come to their assistance.

If I was the US, I would recognise Morroco's claim to Ceuta just to piss off the Spanish.

The renewed discord over territorial sovereignty arises just months after Spain and Morocco inked a series of agreements intended to “consolidate a new era of mutual trust.”

That's disgusting. Trying to bully countries into war.

Good - they should be chucked out of NATO too given how little they contribute, in all senses of the word.

This is good.

It’s just a shame he doesn’t know a) what a woman is and b) how to discourage antisemitism in his country.

I'd say fuck the Ayatollah for his appalling treatment of his own people if he hadn't already been killed.

So the arguments you and others have made against economic sanctions on Israel because it punishes innocent civilians in that country doesn't apply when the country isn't Israel? Getting whiplash trying to keep up on these threads.

I have no strong feelings about economic sanctions and Israel. Maybe you are mixing me up with someone else.

Would you be against sanctions by the West against Iran?

And by the way I don't see any need for sanctions against Israel, it's not as though they have done anything against the UK.

If do it or else is the type of politics that you like then sound.

Let's hope the UK is always willing to bark like a dog for Trump because Spain has the EU, the UK is literally an island.

Just murdered many Palestinian children. No big deal. 🤷(Sarcasm obviously).

I wonder how many so keen for our involvement have children who are soldiers? Fuck all probably! Keep us out

I am worries that the IGRC are now hiding in schools and mosques (learning from Hamas?).

I would not be surprised if missile storage sites or silos were alos near residential areas.

Pretty sure they are 'doing a Hamas' and have based themselves in schools and hospitals thinking that these won't be targeted. I read this somewhere today (but can't remember the source).

Mmmm, I’m not so sure. Gaza is pretty condensed, Iran is absolutely massive, 3x the size of France (4,500 times larger than Gaza).
Iran has all sorts of geography to exploit.
Obviously there is plenty of infrastructure near urban areas, but they don’t have the need to go burrowing under civilian infrastructure.
I’d be surprised anyway.

That school that was hit was a tragic accident.
From Wikipedia (FWIW)
’According to locals, the Shajareh Tayyebeh school in Minab was a former military facility converted into an all-girls elementary school.[11] At the time of the strikes, the school was located approximately 600 metres (660 yd) away from the Sayyid al-Shuhada military complex which includes the headquarters of the Asif Brigade of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy.[4][12][13][14] According to satellite imagery, the building in which the school was housed was initially walled within the IRGC compound in 2013 but was then walled off by September 2016.’

The Israeli abassador to Australia said Israeli intelligence indicated the school was no longer operating, and was instead being used by members of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. So the school was hit on purpose. Israel and the US just didn't do their due diligence before blowing up school girls at their desks.
