US and Israel strike Iran. (title edited by MNHQ at request of the OP)

Israel attacked Iran early on Saturday morning, saying it had “launched a pre-emptive strike against Iran to remove threats to the state of Israel,” according to a military spokesman.

Israel closed its airspace and declared a state of emergency, in anticipation of
Iranian drone and missile strikes in response.

Explosions were heard in Tehran on Saturday, Iranian media reported.

The best thing to do is listen to Iranians. There are plenty celebrating rn but someone to start with who is speaking is Shiva Mahbobi, Iranian women’s rights activist.

Why do you presume I am not? Or that I don't have Iranian friends. I do. That's rather patronising.

I find the notion that anyone not predicting instant peace and liberation for Iranian women supports the regime quite childish.

This isn't a video game where there are easy winners and losers.

Where has anyone on this thread suggested it is?

I don’t see ‘childish’ posts from anyone which is why it’s a decent thread.

I am seeing such a suggestion.
If I am wrong, I apologise.

There’s no way anyone looks at the people in Iran and thinks this is easy for them. No chance, it’s brutal and difficult.

I still want them to thrive and hope they do.

Do you think countries should group together to go to war against an aggressive expansionist state that wants control of a region and operates a political ideology based upon ethnic supremacy that has been repeatedly attacking its neighbours?

USA or Iran ?

OrangeAxolotyl · 01/03/2026 08:49

No-one on this thread has suggested that this will be a simple or easy process. I really don't think that anyone is so naive.

attichoarder · 01/03/2026 08:53

A dangerous precedent has been set where a country thinks they can change a leader of another state.

dapsnotplimsolls · 01/03/2026 08:59

It's not the first time.

Or a precedent has been set that says massacring your own people won’t go unpunished? They had clear warnings

notimagain · 01/03/2026 08:23

@Stirabout

*Why aren’t we seeing a cessation or at least reduction in hostilities given this announcement
Wouldn’t that be the immediate course if action *

Cease hostilities on the basis of an op-ed/wishlist written by someone who has no control over those currently running things in Iran?

USA or Iran ?

Are you comparing the brutal theocracy in Iran with the US? I know where I would rather live as do millions of other people.

Iran missiles fired towards UK bases in Cyprus, Defence Secretary reveals

The Defence Secretary has revealed that two Iranian missiles were fired in the direction of Cyprus, where Britain maintains key military bases.

John Healey said it was not yet clear whether the missiles were deliberately targeting UK facilities on the island.

“We are not sure if they were intentionally aimed at our bases,” he said.

He also disclosed that around 300 British military personnel were stationed close to sites targeted in Bahrain.

Speaking to Trevor Phillips on Sky News, Mr Healey added: “Few people will mourn the Ayatollah’s death.”

However, he stressed his greater concern was the potential fallout from the strikes on Iran and the risk of wider regional escalation.

He noted the 20 terror plots on the UK’s streets organised by Iran, the death of tens of thousands of its own citizens and the supply of 50,000 drones to Russia to attack Ukraine.

“Make no mistake that this is a regime which harasses other countries and can never be allowed to have a nuclear weapon.”

Iran is firing indiscriminately at a number of countries, mainly those with US bases and interests. The UK also has a lot of interests and people in the wider ME region. The Defence Secretary this morning has stated that the safety of British citizens is paramount.

If they can yes, in order to a) widen the conflict and b) bring support against the UK (anti Western in general) from the Western based Islamo leftists
(Corbyn, Greens, pro Palestine etc).

But it's unlikely to happen on the basis of just two missiles splashing down somewhere in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea.

They are happy to drag any countries in. Desperation

I agree with @HappyFace2025 that the firing seems rather indiscriminate at the moment.

How to make friends and influence people ...

Even Oman has been attacked now as their Duqm port has been hit by two drones. Despite the fact that relations between Iran and Oman have been friendly, and Oman acted as the primary mediator in the indirect talks between the US and Iran earlier this month.

If they are directing fire against a friendly country like Oman, this strongly suggests a breakdown in the chain of command within the IRGC.

Hasn't the leader of IRGC, Mosavi, been confirmed dead?

40 commanders were eliminated within one minute of current operation, Iranian security leadership eliminated in opening strike.

The IDF confirmed it eliminated Abdolrahim Mousavi, Chief of Staff of Iran’s armed forces, in the opening strike of Operation Roaring Lion.

He has, along with the defense minister, Aziz Nasirzadeh. But this type of rogue targeting indicates that someone, likely several command levels down from them, has decided to bin the plan and improvise.

Israel announced today that it killed 40 senior commanders in the opening minutes of the air attacks.
