Conflict in the Middle East

After Bondi beach protesters still call 'globalise the intifada'

"The pro-Palestine march is now well underway, with demonstrators chanting "End the occupation now" and "Stop arming Israel".

Veteran activist Peter Tatchell has been arrested at the protest for carrying a placard reading "Globalise the intifada", his foundation said."

Thankfully he was arrested for his sign. Clear incitment. The Manchester attack on a synagogue and Bondi beach attack and still some of the pro pal marches want to 'globalise the intifada'.

Gaza was given full rights to enable self determination in 2005, removing 21 settlements and Israeli military forces. Hamas was elected into government the same year. We all know how that has turned out 20 years later. I somehow doubt that Palestinians want to become just part of Israel even if you think 'it's the right thing to do'.

Whilst I agree with you 100% that a two state solution is the only logical solution, there is still the major hurdle that now neither the Palestinians or the Israelis want it.

It was offered to the Palestinians by President Clinton and the Israelis but was rejected by Yasser Arafat. And now after the horrific attack of the 7th October the Israelis would be reluctant to offer it again.

Utopia?

Major problem is that Israelies don't trust Palestinians and Palestinians dont trust Israelies. Terrorists roaming all through the area might be a little problematic. They aren't all going to shake hands, lay down weapons and trust everyone. Hence, the slower approach by peace deals, everyone needs to agree to it and they just wouldn't agree to one state given what's occurred.

An Israel where Jewish people are a tiny minority, just like they are everywhere else. Often with consequences for their safety.

noblegiraffe · 02/02/2026 13:59

If they don’t want to recognise Israel as a country in its own right next to theirs, why on earth do you think they would recognise Israel as their own country?

It will not happen because the Jewish majority would be taken over by a Muslim one. Ergo no longer a Jewish State.

Tell me, why do you think there are so few Jews in countries other than Israel in the ME?

You what? Palestinians accepted a one state solution (Israel takes control of all the land) in return for a two state solution?

Its a simple question. Either tell me what you think or summarise his argument as I don't have a copy to hand.

Recognising the legitimacy of the state of Israel (which Hamas, btw, do not) does not mean recognising the legitimacy of that state to take over your land and become your country, in your 'one state solution'.

ginasevern · 02/02/2026 18:09

Peter Tatchell might like to go and live in Gaza then. He could do a report on how LGBTQ rights work there.

That gives a lot of information. Let me help you out: He's an Iraqi born Jewish man who lives and works in the UK. He's anti Zionist. He has lived in Israel and did his military service there but he is among other anti Zionists like Ilan Pappe. If he is your source for Israel and Palestine history may I respectively suggest you read more widely.
