Conflict in the Middle East

What was the purpose of this level of destruction?

Gazans are returning to their homes and are horrified to see the level of destruction. Their joy mixed with despair.

www.timesofisrael.com/gazans-joy-over-ceasefire-tempered-by-shock-as-they-return-to-destroyed-homes/

We can feel joy that the hostages are returning home, relief that Hamas will be sidelined - but how do we reconcile with the death and destruction that has happened in Gaza?

'no one really wants to hear that hamas are the baddies and IDF are fighting terrorists. Israel set out to destroy hamas and no one will never know how many deaths were caused by hamas. Hamas are ultimately responsible for the destruction of their people and their country.'

So true. But it's all 'lies' apparently.

DrPrunesqualer · 13/10/2025 17:09

Oh
Outright
Again and again and again for years now

Its heated up a lot again since the ceasefire agreement
I try to fact check as much as I can but I think most of us remember a lot of the lies of the past

I noticed that.

It's like just saying something makes it true .

And putting something in quotation marks makes it true too....

beanbaggirs · 13/10/2025 17:14

Today's children will have to accept as adults what their parents did. It won't be easy.

Do Uk dc even think about the War on Terror?

It will be in that paper Propaganda news 🤣🤣

< goes off to check YouTube >

Here it is. It’s entitled

‘How to convince myself Israel aren’t to Blame’. Check it out there’s even a long section advising mumsnetters on derailing aswell

Edited

True 🤣

beanbaggirs · 13/10/2025 17:17

Studies have already shown the % level of civilians murdered by Israel in Gaza in the last two years exceeds all other wars

Didn't the war on Terror kill more than 350k civilians?

Yes, in fact they discuss it in school so I would imagine it’s fairly universally known.

Juggleit, you will really wind people up on here, no one really wants to hear that hamas are the baddies and IDF are fighting terrorists. Israel set out to destroy hamas and no one will never know how many deaths were caused by hamas. Hamas are ultimately responsible for the destruction of their people and their country.

No one really wants to hear that hamas are the baddies
Any evidence to back up your claim that people here don't view Hamas as "baddies"?(sticking to your juvenile language).

I don't think anyone here supports Hamas and is not aware that they are evil terrorists. However that does not mean we blindly support Netanyahu and the IDF genocidal actions in Gaza. Most of us don't have such simplistic childish views of things.

beanbaggirs · 13/10/2025 17:21

@TomeTome do you think they struggle to accept what us adults did? Do you think they find it easy or hard?

Pasly · 13/10/2025 17:23

The only gaslighting I have seen today is Trump standing up in the knesset and referring to Netanyahu as a man of peace. Very disturbing

BluntPlumHam · 13/10/2025 17:25

Like all previous threads on this topic the last couple of pages end up with the same old people trying to convince everyone that the Palestinians are to blame for their own demise. This is precisely why the protests won’t stop. End the apartheid and the occupation is the only way forward.

Without hamas none of this would have happened.

Hamas are to blame.

The protests won't stop because some look on it like a hobby sadly. They should try knitting.

Agree. To put all the blame on one group shows a complete misunderstanding of the history of the region and the governance of Palestine prior to October 7th.

DrPrunesqualer · 13/10/2025 17:46

Of the others with a higher % civilian death rate
Two ie Rwanda and Srebrenica were a genocide and
The siege of Mariupol speaks for itself

But if Israeli war supporters want to be proud they come fourth behind two genocides and a massacre I suppose they’ve got to cling on to something

pro Israeli supporters posting on here don’t want to recognise Gaza as a genocide or a massacre so ….

What was the purpose of this level of destruction?

I don’t know enough to say I will go and research this person

This man is the head of the paramilitary group which have killed over 61,000 people in Sudan - ‘many more’ according to the BBC, but owing to a complete lack of global interest we will never know the true figure. They are guilty of ethnic cleansing in Darfur and a famine was declared months ago.

This is even bigger than Gaza.

Everyone here who is ‘appalled at the blind eye the world turned to Gaza’ even with the sheer amount of coverage Gaza had, please do explain your lack of interest in this one to me?

WestwardHo1 · 13/10/2025 17:58

Why are so many people in this country intent on believing that Hamas are brave selfless freedom fighters?

Judge them on what they say and what they do.

Would you honestly have sat back after an attack like they carried out on October 7th and thought "we deserved it so we'll do nothing".

Fighting enemies like Hamas is not like facing the French at Agincourt unfortunately. Or the Germans at the Somme. And in times of war, bad things happen. Have you lot forgotten the destruction of the Normandy towns during summer 1944? And they were our allies. Have a look at what happened to Kaliningrad, formerly known as Königsberg. Go on, Google it.

Edited for typos

@BluntPlumHam ’End the apartheid and the occupation is the only way forward.’

The IDF left Gaza in 2025.
They could have made the most of it, and worked with Israel. But Hamas decided to spend the money on rockets (which killed 500 odd Palestinians at the Al Ahli Arab hospital), enrich themselves, murder 1200+ Israelis, and ultimately lead to the destruction of Gaza.

They will become rich now with the protection racket they will run when the rebuilding starts.
