This article is horrifying. £150 for a 25kg bag of flour. They don’t have access to fresh vegetables. No water. No cash, no food. This is disgraceful.

Video diary: The struggle for one meal in Gaza - BBC News

As warnings about starvation escalate, 20-year-old Mosab al-Trtori shares videos of his daily struggle to find food, water and fuel in Gaza.

@IGaveSoManySigns
Thanks for posting.

I have also read about children with lack of access to fruit and protein, causing malnutrition.

"We haven't eaten any protein for five months. My youngest child is four years old - he doesn't know what fruit and vegetables look or taste like."

”There is simply nothing for the child to eat. There are no vegetables, no fruits."
Now, Lamia suffers from swelling in her legs, thinning hair, and nerve problems, she said.
"She cannot walk. I went to many clinics, doctors, and hospitals. They all told me my daughter is suffering from malnutrition. But none of them gave me anything, not treatment, not any support."

For the want of simple vitamins such as folic acid, babies are being born with deformities- and this does not include the underweight babies being born noted in the article above.

And yet the Hamas leadership looks to be in remarkably good health. Funny that.

Stripes56 · 06/09/2025 15:56

Somehow I don’t think the Hamas leadership got rich peddling folic acid and other vitamins to pregnant women. Its worth pennies but can prevent such awful present and future suffering.

There needs to be a ceasefire so that urgent aid can get through. For the sake of the hostages too.

“Malnutrition is high among pregnant and breastfeeding women, leading to increased pregnancy complications. Folic acid, multivitamins, and other crucial supplements are on the verge of disappearing. In February, at least one in five newborns were born with complications, including low birth weight, requiring advanced medical care that is now increasingly unavailable. Portable incubators, ultrasound devices, and oxygen pumps, among other essential equipment, are now stalled at the border.“

Statement by UNFPA Executive Director Dr. Natalia Kanem on the resumption of attacks on Gaza

UNFPA is shocked by the resumption of airstrikes across the Gaza Strip. Already a meaningful number of civilians have been killed. UN staff have also been caught up in the violence, with a staff member tragically killed in attacks this

Many looked healthy in July 2023!

It’s a deflection from talking about the food shortages and suffering in Gaza.

There’s nothing in the original article apportioning for the difficulties- it’s just an account of a family trying to get food for a day.

Most of the current leadership of Hamas live in Qatar and Turkey, so I suspect they continue to eat well.

Probably, but begs the question as to why Gaza city is being targeted with a complete siege of no food, water, medicine and now a ground assault with tanks as another “stronghold of Hamas” when its leaders aren’t even in Gaza?

So the fact that Keir Starmer looks well fed means we don't have food banks in the UK?

There is no justification for causing civilians to starve to death. Getting food supplies to these people ought to be easy. It is being prevented, and that is a crime against humanity and against God (who the Israeli government purport to believe in). The "leadership" of both sides are no better than each other.

It’s actually impossible for some people to have sympathy. Nobody apportions blame in this article, but still some just.

They don’t have sympathy because sadly they agree with starving the population. People who defend or deny or deflect simply don’t give a shit that families are starving to death. It’s shocking that there are people like that on this forum, even after all of this time I still get shocked and feel a bit sick about that.

KoalaKoKo · 06/09/2025 18:20

Unfortunately a large percentage of people in Israel think there are no innocent people in Gaza and as such have no sympathy. A recent poll there showed a majority agreed with the statement that there are no innocent people in Gaza.

There have been a few anti war Israelis who have spoken out recently about being indoctrinated at an early age and how they were told about the horrors of the holocaust and the issues with Palestine in the same breath so they think they are taught from a young age that Palestinians are the enemy and as bad as nazis. It is shocking - add in the mandatory military service and you have a population indoctrinated into an “us against them” mentality. Many believe it is necessary to erase the population for their own protection. A few of the pro Israel posters here have said they are Israeli based, they have grown up in a society where one group is seen as less than - some will never see the Palestinian children the same way they see Israeli children.

Who charged 150 for one bag of food? Who's profiteering in Gaza whilst people need food...other Palestinian people. Free aid should be available to him, he shouldn't have to buy free aid from other Palestinians or Hamas.

allusernamesaretakennow · 07/09/2025 07:58

The people selling in the street markets of Gaza are benefiting/profiteering from the misery of others.

KateMiskin · 07/09/2025 08:02

Palestinian children have been completely dehumanised. No longer seen as human. I hope this vile genocide is seen as one in years to come, when the world is less indoctrinated. Of course too late for these children.

Because the whole of Hamas, and its infrastructure and military capability has to be defeated, not just the most senior leaders.

Literally everybody gets it. I can assure you it is not a complicated concept.

I would like to understand why people who are anti Israel spell it Isreal. @PrawnAgain can you explain?

It was just a typo in this case.

I'm not anti Israel. I'm anti genocide and anti systematic oppression of groups of people.

If you think being against those things makes me anti-Israel then what does that say?

Ok, maybe someone else who does it will explain one day.

So on social media there looks like there's 2 new cafes that have opened in Gaza this week - a Nutella one and one called vanilla. They look really nice and have lots of nice food. And also lots of pictures from Gazans social media showing fully stocked street markets? Are Hamas preventing people to getting to these areas?
