"Unless the Israeli government takes substantive steps to end the appalling situation".

Source: Reuters

It is largely symbolic but it does mean the tide is turning!

Also: interesting to see that they frame it as largely contingent on Israeli behaviour

Having watched Starmer stammering and floundering his way through his idiotic stance, I've come to this conclusion:

The man is terrified of Corbyn, and of his backbenchers jumping ship to Corbyns new party, so he's come out with this dumb shit to try and protect his personal power base.

Not so long ago he struggled to say he knew what a woman was. He's a bit James Hacker. I wonder who he trusts.

Not so long ago he struggled to say he knew what a woman was. He's a bit James Hacker. I wonder who he trusts.

The man, since the beginning, would do anything he could to stay in power and that's why he's the king of flip flops. He's got no actual integrity or solid thoughts about anything besides appeasement and saying phony things to get elected.

Let's be honest, the man did a huge song and dance about antisemitism over really pretty minor stuff, and when it suited him to use it as a weapon to out corbyn, he did. But then when a far more terrifying antisemitism issue reared it's head, he did nothing to protect Jewish people. I never thought he cared about antisemitism, I think he was just trying to get his faction power.

Similarly he completely lied to get elected leader, then lied again to get elected PM and has done many things that were never in his manifesto.

Now he finds himself caught because he's completely alienated more than half the country so all he's got left are the Jew haters. They're his only real chance of staying in power.

The Corbynite crew are vehemently antisemitic in my experience and opinion and Starmer will be very happy to market himself to them, and to appease some of the people in his party.

Thank God I didn't vote at the last election. The last Tory government was a shit show and this lot someone manage to be even worse. At least the Torys don't support terrorists and I doubt they'd have let antisemitism go so far unchecked.

EasternStandard · 02/08/2025 18:19

Is anyone picking up on this? I can’t see a thread so far.

Just reading this, seems as if they’ve been emboldened?

Hamas has said it will refuse to disarm unless an independent Palestinian state is established with Jerusalem as its capital.

The Palestinian terror group said in a statement on Saturday that its “armed resistance…cannot be relinquished except through the full restoration of our national rights, foremost among them the establishment of an independent, fully sovereign Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital”.

SharonEllis · 02/08/2025 19:30

Well, who could have predicted that?

Voxon · 02/08/2025 20:44

So Starmer has managed to make a real mess of things hasn't he.

Hamas has announced they will not disarm unless there's a Palestinian state, and they're releasing videos of skeletal Jewish hostages being forced to dig their own graves.

They do this because they can.

They know idiots like Starmer have given them a free pass and they know the idiots of the world will still think the bad guys are the ones fighting to rescue them.

Really that’s so awful about the videos.

If those demands hold below then it pretty much proves you don’t kowtow to terrorists, as Starmer has.

Voxon · 02/08/2025 21:17

Hamas official Ghazi Hamad just said that "The initiative by several countries to recognize a Palestinian state is one of the fruits of October 7."

Astounding.

I predict that we will see a flood of pictures of truly starving Gazans over the next month no matter how much aid goes into Gaza to put pressure on Israel to concede to the Western governments.

I have no doubt Hamas will starve their own civilians to get what they want, they already have been.

What’s starvation when they’re deliberately used as human cannon fodder?

Anyone would think the UK, France and Canada want terrorists in charge.

ConscientiousObserver · 02/08/2025 21:29

Sorry but Israel’s only option is force open the Egyptian border and force an evacuation, then bolt the doors behind them and finish off any Hamas who are left to fight.

Egypt have got away with pretending this is not their problem for long enough.

Should have been done months ago IMO.

You're openly advocating for ethnic cleansing.

Although, notably: there is no such thing as "ethnic cleansing" as a legal category - the whole term as such is a euphemism invented by the perpetrators in the 1990s Yugoslav Wars. Legally, what you're describing falls under the Geneva Conventions, the Statute of Rome, and the Genocide Convention as crimes against humanity!

"Force an evacuation, bolt the doors behind them" - that's systematic deportation and population transfer. The casual way you advocate for this, as if it's reasonable policy that "should have been done months ago" reveals exactly what kind of operation you're running here.

You're pushing eliminationist talking points. We can all see what this is!

Op do you think the demands of Hamas in pp should be conceded?

SpaceRaccoon · 02/08/2025 21:58

@EasternStandard yep just seen it. FFS, Starmer and co, great work 🙄

And people are emboldened on X well - more and more tweets calling for Israel to stop existing.

I guess the last couple of weeks' big propaganda push has really reaped the rewards.

SpaceRaccoon · 02/08/2025 22:06

This is unverified, but is this the deal Hamas have said no to?

In which case, there will be further military operations, with Trump backing:

What rubbish.

I’m looking at it from a standpoint of saving lives. Which pro-Palestinians should be focusing on if they actually care more about Palestinian lives than Israelis being wiped out.

There is no question that Israel have to finish Hamas and ensure this conflict isn’t a constant circle where generations to come lose their lives as well.

Giving Hamas another bigger State is not going to stop that. They will be totally emboldened as will other terrorist groups too.

Removing civilians so they have access to food and can’t be used as human sacrifices is the only answer.

Egypt has had plenty of time to step in. They have helped facilitate this war and the Palestinians didn’t want liberation from Egypt when it occupied Gaza so surely it’s the obvious solution.

Seriously? Stop the bullshit humanitarian framing!

You're advocating crimes against humanity: Forced mass deportation of 2+ million people - while calling it "saving lives so they can have access to food."
The reason they don't have access to food is Israeli policy. You're literally proposing ethnic cleansing as the solution to a starvation crisis Israel created.

Would you accept this framing: "There is no question that Palestinians have to finish Likud and those to its right to ensure this conflict isn't a constant circle"? Of course not! Yet these are the parties demanding permanent "Israeli sovereignty between the Jordan river and the Mediterranean sea" - no space for the Palestinian people unless they submit to permanent second-class status.

"Removing civilians" permanently to another country isn't humanitarian intervention - it's forcible population transfer, which is a war crime under the Geneva Conventions, the Statute of Rome, and may plausibly satisfy "destruction of a group in whole or in part" under the Genocide Convention.

You're shilling for ethnic cleansing (again: a euphemism in itself!) while wrapping it in benign-sounding language. Either you're completely biased or you know exactly what you're advocating and are being utterly manipulative about it!

No, I’m advocating for saving innocent lives.

Israel has facilitated more aid into Gaza than any government in any other war in history but it’s not enough, because according to the UN it’s being ‘diverted’ to unknown armed groups and it’s not safe for them to distribute it.

So civilians need to moved to where it’s safe surely?

How can you advocate for civilians to stay in a hostile densely populated war zone where they are being ‘genocided’ and ‘starved’ .

Don’t their lives and safety matter?

Who am I shilling for btw?

You are, in my ever so humble opinion, shilling for the Israeli state and its current government, parts of which have engaged in openly genocidal rhetoric (which is why the ICJ imposed provisional measures ordering Israel to prevent genocidal incitement). You're actively making their case worse as a direct or indirect surrogate.

  • Nobody except Israel and its propagandists claims "Israel has facilitated more aid into Gaza than any government in any other war in history." Israel is an occupying power - confirmed by the ICJ in 2024 in its advisory opinion on the occupation. Under the Geneva Conventions, this makes it uniquely responsible for ensuring access to basic goods and services for the civilian population it occupies. No exception for "but they hate usl!"
  • Yes, civilians need to be safe. Which is perfectly achievable without permanently displacing them from their homeland.
  • Why are they in "a hostile densely populated war zone"? Who declared them "hostile"? The nuclear-armed state that's also starving them?

You're just bad at propaganda and morally inexcusable at this point!

In either case: I will go to sleep now and, for the sake of my blood pressure, ignore you until then!

Okay so it looks like now that Hamas has told the US/Israel to go swivel, there is going to be a push to "launch a full-scale military campaign to completely dismantle Hamas infrastructure and capabilities."

I'm going to call this now - there is going to be thread after thread decrying this, when it happens. But Hamas could have prevented it by accepting the stated terms:

  • Disarm the Gaza Strip - Release all hostages - Accept temporary US-led Interim administration in Gaza

Instead they demand Jerusalem as a capital and crow about October 7 enabling the recognition.

SpaceRaccoon · 02/08/2025 23:43

"The US will launch a sort of "Gaza Policy". The Trump administration is convinced that Israel has been pushed around and blocked by countries in Europe and others to disarm Hamas and thus release all the hostages. The US is also convinced that all the hostages will not be released if Hamas is armed and rule Gaza. The US will launch an official Gaza policy that will create a barrier from Europeans and other since this is official US policy. - The US believes that deals failed because of rhetoric by the west and others and Hamas felt they have a lifeline."

Yes go to sleep. Carry on shilling for evil terrorists tomorrow while I shill for innocent children and civilians.

I have no connection to Israel btw. I just have a working brain, critical thinking skills and morals.

If you’re going to outrageously falsely accuse me of being a shill for Israel, don’t whine when I accuse you of being one for the other side.

How rude.

I have not advocated for ethnic cleansing at all, you’re the one who keeps bringing it up.

You persisted in engaging with me, not the way round, then tell me to Fuck Off.

I note you didn’t answer any of the questions in my posts that you responded to.

Unsurprisingly.
