Bob Geldof announced Gaza Aid 2025

Wait no......Bob is simply reminiscing about Band Aid 40 years ago. Has Bob given up his passionate zeal or as is more highly likely like most high profile musicians decided the Gaza conflict is one to stay well away from and they don't want to be seen the dupes of Hamas propaganda.

Not many big names on TV and the stage are wading into this for good reason and those that do are certainly the naive lovely types.

@mids2019

He is 73 and it’s up to the younger generation to do something if they want to.

Also I believe he is of Jewish descent - tho Wikipedia does say he doesn’t follow a religion. However I doubt he would be pro-Palestine.

His paternal grandmother, Amelia Falk, was a British Jewfrom London of German-Jewishdescent.

I don’t understand people saying the media is pro Israel - everything I see in the media is in favour of Gaza. Channel 4 is very pro-Palestine.

Zov · 13/07/2025 09:53

@mids2019

So he actually HASN'T mentioned 'Gaza Aid' at all then?

Why put that as the title?

And why would he do this anyway? Confused

As several others have said, what on earth are going on about?!

PM "scared of Pro Israel lobby". I don't know if he's scared but he's part of Friends of Israel group in parliament. Maybe a reason why he takes his positions? See also Telegraph newspaper.

Kier Starmer’s wife is Jewish.

Or maybe its the other way around. He is a member of Friends of Israel because it aligns with his position as a supporter of the nation of Israel.

AzurePanda · 13/07/2025 10:19

Why wouldn’t there be a pro Israel lobby in the UK? It’s the only true democracy in the Middle East where women and gays have equal rights and one of the few Muslim countries in the Middle East where Arabs have the vote.

AzurePanda · 13/07/2025 10:58

Oops sorry, obviously Israel isn’t a Muslim country, meant to say it was one of the few countries in the Middle East where Arabs have a genuine free vote!

And I should have added, supporter of a viable Palestinian state too, as that is Labour Friends of Israel's position.

smallglassbottle · 13/07/2025 11:14

Buffypaws · 13/07/2025 09:36

If the pro Israel lobby is so powerful why can’t I move in this country without running into dickheads in keffiyehs screaming about Palestine

I used to ask myself this question, until I discovered the answer and now I know it's pointless.

Loopylalalou · 13/07/2025 11:37

SharonEllis · 13/07/2025 08:36

Tired of 'anti-Hamas rhetoric'? You are not 'anti' the people who conducted 7 October? Do you know how Hamas terrorised their own citizens for 20 odd years and continue to do so? The only way it would have been over long ago would have been if Israel's opponents had been successful in destroying Israel. Thankfully they were not.

Edited

No, I’m on the side of the ordinary Palestinian who has had their live destroyed. I’d do that in any circumstance, whatever the country, race, creed etc. And by rhetoric, I mean the constant chatter about taking the one side. And as I said, we’d be a lot better off if we let conflict resolve more locally.

I can’t resist although I’ve no idea what this thread is about but. Geldofs ancestry and influences are Belgium Catholic, English Jewish, German Protestant and he was born and brought up in Ireland. Who knows what he thinks of the Gaza situation but he’s certainly spending time campaigning against Price Williams 2500 new housing estate on Duchy farmland. Maybe that’s taking up his time along with shopping in the local charity shops 😀 and jamming with Jools Holland at Cooling castle

Vitrolinsanity · 13/07/2025 14:47

If I was 73 year old Bob, I’d be happily letting any one of the uber-minted celebrities of 2025 step up for this one. Why not Jay-z and Beyonce, or Taylor or Ed or Oasis. Any of them could sacrifice a night’s ticket sales alone.

What Bob and Midge pulled off in 1985 was amazing, risky and of it’s time. Even then, the biggest US stars gave the Philadelphia concert a swerve: Jackson, Prince, Springsteen, Ross

BrutalOutHere · 13/07/2025 14:49

TheGrimSmile · 13/07/2025 05:40

Bob Geldof is probably terrified of being accused of being antisemitic. We all know how powerful the pro-Israel lobby is. Our own PM is scared to death of them. BG is also probably exhausted after the death of his daughter and doesn't have the energy now.

‘The powerful pro Israel lobby’ who ‘everybody is scared of’

And say they’re not antisemitic

smh

Actually, I suppose it has multiple points

  1. click bait

  2. pick on someone who achieved something massive - and pick on them for literally no reason at all

  3. click bait

  4. sit at home criticising someone who achieved something massive while achieving nothing - because how dare somebody achieve massive things? So massive that people are still talking about it 40 years later. Okay, this poster is clearly furious that somebody dared to do something so mammoth because, hey it's been 40 years.

  5. click bait

  6. pretend to feel virtuous while criticising a humongous achievement

This post makes about as much sense as the thread 🤷🏻‍♀️

I suppose nimbyism is quite time consuming. And possibly expensive? Could he not get some of the 80s heads to do an ould benefit gig. Geddorf Me Land Aid. Rod Stewart and Phil Collins . Roger Daltrey.

The farmland isn’t actually near him. He’s at the far side of town and traffic etc wouldn't affect him either. Not really nimbiysm

Theraffarian · 13/07/2025 05:54

Probably for the same reason that the BBC could have used last nights rerun of the concerts in full as a fund raiser but didn’t. Unlike the Ukraine war where there is an obvious aggressor, the Gaza situation is far more nuanced and the capacity to help innocent civilians harder to navigate .

It’s not far more nuanced. It’s very simple.

A murderous islamo-fascist regime is attempting to eradicate a democratic state which happens to be the only Jewish state on earth. Hamas and its backers have managed to dupe the Western liberal elite into supporting it.

Very odd. Going out of his way to stop a housing development. But then it's what millionaires do I suppose. Such a rebel.

The land is ( was ) protected and is grade 1 farmland. Raynor will push it through whatever anyone thinks because that’s the policy now. To dictate.

In what way do you think the West has been duped? I am genuinely interested what others think has or hasn’t happened in Gaza.

a. Do you no think vast areas of Gaza have been flattened?

b. Do you think thousands of children have been killed?

c. Do you think that the Israeli government stopped aid going into Gaza?

I do believe the above from what I have read and seen in the press and on Google Maps, but please tell me if I am mistaken.

Perhaps you agree with all above, but you think it has all been necessary? If it is the latter, having an opinion that may this not have been proportionate is not the same as being duped.

Do you think “wearing a keffiyeh and screaming about Palestine” demonstrates power?

Yes, they took over streets and campuses and other people then avoided them

Madisnttheword · 13/07/2025 19:08

Abhannmor · 13/07/2025 09:51

Maybe. But it's equally possible he is more inclined to sympathise with Israel. His friend Bono is / was a born again Evangelical Christian. Bob Geldof isn't of course but many in his generation ( myself included) had a rose tinted view of Israel. Going there to pick fruit on a kibbutz was a rite of passage for many people. Yes , I know Christian churches are being destroyed by settlers and the IDF but that doesn't matter to the born agains. All part of God's plan. The Rapture etc.

And Bob geldofs grandmother was a jew

You're being duped because you're reacting in exactly the way Hamas wanted you to. Why are so many women and children killed? Hamas deliberately puts them in harm's way. They know that will create the emotional outrage. Israel acted the same way they were also meant to - to then become hate targets, for people who knew nothing of the conflict before 7/10. Hamas don't want peace, they seek obliteration of Israel. When will that sink in?
