US confirms plan for private firms to deliver Gaza aid despite UN alarm

The US has confirmed that a new system for providing humanitarian aid to Palestinians in Gaza through private companies is being prepared, as Israel's blockade continues for a third month.

US ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee said "distribution centres" protected by security contractors would provide food and other supplies to over a million people initially, as part of an effort to prevent Hamas stealing aid.

He denied Israel would take part in aid delivery or distribution, but said its forces would secure the centres' perimeters.

It comes as details emerged about the controversial plan, which UN agencies have reiterated they will not co-operate with because it appears to "weaponize" aid.

Looks like Hamas is threatening retribution to Gazans who have accepted aid packages.

Sickening but will this be reported in MSM?

That’s awful … mind you, thousands more Gazans will be accepted aid packages and Hamas can’t punish all of them.

Civilians have disobeyed Hamas direct instructions by collecting the aid packages. I can see this being an issue that really undermines Hamas authority & control.

It’s what Israel wants … local people turning against Hamas. Revolt from within could be more effective in destroying their power than external pressure.

Honest Reporting: Hamas Destroys Aid Warehouse on Camera—Why Isn’t This Front-Page News?

A propaganda video from Hamas shows something that should have dominated headlines: armed fighters dressed as civilians launching attacks from inside a humanitarian aid warehouse—and then blowing it up themselves.
Let’s break down why this matters.

First, by wearing civilian clothes while engaging in combat, Hamas is violating the laws of armed conflict, which require combatants to distinguish themselves from civilians. That alone is a breach of international law.
But it gets worse. The location they chose to launch their attack? A warehouse filled with humanitarian aid.

This is the same aid that UN officials have repeatedly claimed never ends up in Hamas hands. The footage says otherwise. By turning a civilian space into a military post, Hamas stripped the warehouse of its protected status under international law. That means it becomes a lawful military target—because it’s being used for hostile action.

And then, the most shocking moment: Hamas fighters proudly record themselves detonating the booby-trapped warehouse, destroying the aid themselves.

So where is the outrage? If Hamas is willing to destroy humanitarian aid, why aren’t they being held accountable for worsening conditions in Gaza?
And more urgently—why isn’t this video leading every newscast?

I’m not sure about the above link - the UN didn’t say that aid never ends to in Hamas hands. The mechanics of actually ensuring that are very much against the humanitarian principles of aid which we can see now,

Yes it could be indeed part of a plan to reduce their power internally. It’s cruel and wrong to use food as a political tool like this. There is enough aid ready to go, all of this desperation is completely manufactured.

HellsBalls · 28/05/2025 06:55

Hamas have no issues with the aid as long as they are the middlemen and can make a decent profit for themselves off the starving Gazans.
If they can’t have that profit then better to let the children starve, as that scores points in the genocide narrative.

Stripes56 · 28/05/2025 07:00

@Twiglets1
You are right! No news outlet is touching this! Goodness! Why could this be? A story created from a few clips on repeat. Mmmmm … Nope can’t imagine why the internet isn’t in uproar 🤨

Perhaps we’ll just have to read the stuff that does get printed. Do you read the Times of Israel?

Do you know what would solve the issue?

Flooding the place with aid, aid that is already available.

I’m surprised that anyone would defend using aid like this. It’s indefensible. That’s why we are seeing governments in Europe finally ramp up the criticism on Israel.

myplace · 28/05/2025 07:09

If this new set up is all shades of wrong and doesn’t comply with the ethics of aid, surely that’s the fault of Hamas?

It’s Hamas that stopped the ‘correct’ system working.

I am appalled by the situation in Gaza. Hamas have managed to subvert every attempt at civilised intervention. Following established ethical practice which prolongs the war, sustaining Hamas, and feeds no one. The established ethical distribution system left people starving and Hamas stronger.

So we’re left with a second best solution- but getting aid to people.

Twiglets1 · 28/05/2025 07:13

@Odras Israel claim that aid meant for civilians sometimes ended up under Hamas control in the previous method of aid distribution and UN spokespeople have referred to these claims as "unsubstantiated".

Telegraph is reporting that Hamas is telling Gazans not to go collect aid because of concerns over biometric screening.

'Do not go to Rafah ...Do not fall into the trap...Do not risk your lives. Your homes are your fortress. Staying in your neighbourhoods is survival, and awareness is your protection,” a statement published by the Hamas-linked Home Front said.

“These schemes will be broken by the steadfastness of a people who do not know defeat,” it added.

On Tuesday, witnesses said that many Palestinians stayed away from the distribution hubs.

“As much as I want to go because I am hungry and my children are hungry, I am afraid,” Abu Ahmed, 55, a father of seven, told Reuters.

“I am so scared because they said the company belongs to Israel and is a mercenary, and also because the resistance (Hamas) said not to go,” he added.

The IDF have said they are not checking any biometrics for a couple of weeks until there is enough aid already distributed.

So both Hamas and Israel are using aid as a political tool- both rubbish

Twiglets1 · 28/05/2025 07:21

I read the same article @dairydebris

It’s so obvious that Hamas are scared the new aid distribution model will weaken their influence & control over civilians.

“Do not fall into the trap. Do not risk your lives” … classic scaremongering tactics as if it’s safer not to collect aid and for your children to starve.

Good god.
@Twiglets1 - they said that they have not seen “large scale diversion . The focus should be on increasing access. They also said the vast majority of aid reaches people in need. They also said there are risks in conflict areas but the solution is more monitoring and more access.
@myplace Are you wondering why it is this issue that has been Germany send their condemnation? If it the second best solution? What do you think is behind the European governments words now?

Yes- although the US are attempting to deliver it- albeit in a flawed way.
Hamas are attempting to stop their people from accessing it. That's where the outrage should be.

Using the most basic life essential like food is a powerful tool for control.

If it impacts Hamas power do you think the required starvation was worth it?

Thanks for that update @HellsBalls . It’s not entirely true though.

The Israeli military said it fired “warning shots” near the compound to restore control.

@Odras Hamas were diverting aid on a large enough scale that another method had to be found in order to break their business model, according to Israel.

I don’t personally agree that them withholding aid for so long was “worth it” but I believe what they said about Hamas stealing or destroying aid so can understand why they felt the need to do so.

Mainly I’m relieved that aid is getting into Gaza again even if this method has problems too and I hope many more Gazans are able to collect aid as the system really gets going this week.

I am outraged both at Hamas for having used aid to raise funds when aid was scarce and for Israel for creating a situation where aid was limited, then stopped and now used to ethnically cleanse Gaza.

I am glad the world has forced Israel to let in aid.

That article is not saying anyone got shot.

It reports that there were at least 3 injured Palestinians but that could well have been from the scrum of thousands of people climbing over fences etc to grab the aid (understandably).
