US confirms plan for private firms to deliver Gaza aid despite UN alarm

The US has confirmed that a new system for providing humanitarian aid to Palestinians in Gaza through private companies is being prepared, as Israel's blockade continues for a third month.

US ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee said "distribution centres" protected by security contractors would provide food and other supplies to over a million people initially, as part of an effort to prevent Hamas stealing aid.

He denied Israel would take part in aid delivery or distribution, but said its forces would secure the centres' perimeters.

It comes as details emerged about the controversial plan, which UN agencies have reiterated they will not co-operate with because it appears to "weaponize" aid.

I hope the EU is not taken in by inadequate aid provision. Hopefully political leaders will be able to appreciate the inadequacies or otherwise of the aid distribution, and act accordingly by continuing to review the EU -Israel association. I see their concerns have extended from restricted aid to also concerns about the degree of continued bombing of Gaza by Israel.

We really do now need leaders to follow through for sake of Palestinians.

Hopefully more countries will recognise the state of Palestine.

World Central Kitchen founder Jose Andres tears into the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation after footage of Palestinians overrunning the latter’s newly established aid distribution sites goes viral.
“The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation has left Palestinians without food. The people that created it are selfish,” Andres writes on X, lamenting that the new initiative has left Palestinians “really hungry.”

Saw the footage on channel 4 news. People caged up like animals, no proper distribution networks, not enough food to meet demand the dehumanisation continues. The aid centres only cater to those that can get there, the most needy and vulnerable will lose out and continue to suffer.

I just watched the report about it on the BBC news.

The scene was described as chaotic with Israel confirming that "it's troops fired warning shots in an area outside the compound" (American workers also fired warning shots to try to regain control) as thousands of hungry Palestinians broke through the perimeter fence to reach the boxes of aid.

However, it's back under control now with no casualties despite @BelleHathor trying to convince us that "US mercenaries were opening fire at the starved crowd" and "Israelis troops also fired at the crowds".

Ch4 news had a report from inside gaza, showing the chaos happening and an eye witness said the IDF was shooting at the Palestinians.

Does it surprise you that apparently the IDF and American security were firing at the crowds of Gazans and yet there are no reported deaths nor footage?

Are they bad shots then as no one was killed?

Glad that the BBC confirmed earlier reports that the IDF and American Mercenaries fired. As stated by Muhammad in his thread. I am not trying to convince anyone of anything, an incident occurred and now more sources are reporting on it.

From Mako.il:

"A few hours after the opening of the Tel a-Sultan partition centers on Tuesday, the Palestinians reported losing control on the spot. Apparently, many Gazans broke through the compound fences and attacked en masse for humanitarian aid. It was also reported that IDF helicopters opened fire and that American company employees withdrew from the scene. Gaza causes N12 on the chaos: “The severe density and load led to the theft of everything. They stole the aid, the equipment, the tables, the chairs and the nets - and took everything. "

The IDF said the incident was recognized and run by the Americans - who did not flee the complex. The Humanitarian Fund for Gaza later announced that control of the situation had been achieved and the food distribution resumed. The fund also said that delays were recorded throughout the day due to Hamas' barriers.

As mentioned, residents in Gaza today began receiving aid packages at two distribution centers - in Tel a-Sultan and the Morag axis in the southern Gaza Strip. Hundreds of families have arrived today to receive aid packages for 5 people and will suffice for 7-5 days. The new food distribution plan is designed to prevent Hamas from taking over the aid that entered the Strip. According to the Humanitarian Fund for Gaza, about 8,000 crates have been distributed so far - equivalent to 462,000 meals.

The packages that the fierce families receive from the distribution centers include a line of food products: flour, sugar, oil, rice, pasta, tomato paste and canned boxes. In the records distributed on the nets, the Gazans also received Israeli products, including flour, grinding and salt."

We know its day 2. We also know there's not enough food for the starving population. And its being inhumanly distributed. But you know that @Twiglets1 .

Is that your standard as to what counts as bad? At least no-one was killed? How about treating people with dignity and respect?
You know you are coming across as heartless.

Al Jazeera are biased so it's quite something that you managed to find sources that are much more extreme in their outlook.

Please try getting your information from more mainstream sources like the BBC. Some people think they have a pro Palestinian bias but wow - nothing like the sources you are looking at!

No thank you. You use your sources and I will use mine whether Israeli papers or elsewhere.

The BBCs reputation is in the gutter due to it's lack of impartiality. There's a reason several of it's journalists wrote an anonymous letter about the pressure from above to toe a certain line when reporting on the situation in Gaza.

I know there's not enough food but that is to be expected at this stage.

I don't know that it's being inhumanely distributed. From what I've read there is a plan to share the distribution of aid with more traditional providers In a letter seen by the Associated Press, it was confirmed the existing UN-led system would continue providing food in parallel to the GHF.

It's a new system of distribution. I'm reserving judgement about whether it will work or not. But the old system was not working according to Israel, and I choose to believe them over Hamas.

According to reports on X, Hamas ordered a riot and Gazans broke down fences and looted, including personal items from US personnel who were forced to fire warning shots as per training, and needed assistance from the IDF.

AIBUHere · 27/05/2025 21:53

That was regarding the scenes at the new distribution centre today.

Hamas were a bit annoyed at the neat lines of Gazans queuing apparently.

Well no matter what news source, and their various angles the base story is the same.

But the old system was not working according to Israel, and I choose to believe them over Hamas.

What about the UN, aid agencies, France, the UK, Canada and now even Germany who are against this aid system?

So if they didn't kill anyone (and we can't be absolutely certain yet), does that make it OK in your eyes? Doubt the UN or the World Kitchen had to fire at Gazans when they were giving them aid....

Possibly because they weren’t rioting and looting on the orders of Hamas who obviously don’t want their people to have access to aid (bad optics for them) and are equally pissed off they can’t steal it anymore?

The US personnel and IDF expected, trained and rehearsed for this scenario apparently, which is probably why no one was injured thankfully and people were fed, although I doubt Hamas and their supporters are happy about that.
