This story is just so heartbreaking. I hope he gets treatment in another country.

It’s about a gymnast who lost his legs in an airstrike.

"Also, genocide… of course that's what has happened. We only need to look at the statements made. Prime Minister Netanyahu has the virtue of being very clear about his objectives."

His choice of words is extraordinary - not just for its gravity, but because it's Griffiths who is saying it.

A veteran diplomat with decades of experience navigating complex international crises, Griffiths is known for his calm and thoughtful demeanour - not for inflammatory language.
For him to use the term "genocide" in a television interview signals a significant shift in how some within the international system are now interpreting events on the ground in Gaza - 20 months since Israel launched its war.

She got out okay but from what I remember her entire immediate family were killed. I think that’s her uncle carrying her.

Her entire family were killed in the fire. 'Ward' the name of the little girl, is the arabic name for Rose.
I wonder if the world would have done more to stop what is happening to these children if it was a little European or American girl called Rose and not a Palestinian child named Ward.

There have been reports of viral tik tok videos showing Israeli tik tokers mimicking an Iranian news reporter after the set being hit by a missile. They haven’t changed at all.

I’m so torn about using the word genocide. Not because I don’t think it’s genocide but because the word is so inflammatory for Israelis and even with a majority of Jewish people that even by saying it we are leaving them out of the conversation. I feel like Jewish people feel they own that word. Which is fair enough as the Holocaust was the largest genocide in modern history. It just throws up questions about how you include Israelis and Jewish people in a conversation about how this is also wrong.

Genocide is a word used to describe all genocides committed, it's part of International Law set out in the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.
The word to exclusively use for the Holocaust is the Holocaust. We should never shy away from naming something because we are worried about who it might offend. You can of course hold off using the term until a time comes when and if it is legally declared. I often use genocidal activities because genocide has yet to be legally proven.

So far no evidence has ever been produced to substantiate the claims hospitals are being used as command centres by Hamas. The only proof being put forward appears to be 'because Israel says so'.

Same people who back the "Israel says so" at every step also shout that any media producing numbers in favour of Palestine are using "Hamas propaganda". It's hopeless.

Yeah, every country has twats saying horribly offensive stuff on the Internet and they rarely change. What's your point?

It's good to see things finally being questioned. It's nice to see the ICJ ruling being mentioned too(finally), they were pretty clear that other countries should not doing anything to support Israels occupation.

It's a step forward that the trade agreement is being questioned but I don't actually have high hopes of anything coming from it. Countries like Hungary and Germany will fight their hardest to see Israels activities go unchecked. Although the Netherlands finally had enough of Israels shit so maybe there is a glimmer of hope in there somewhere. Maybe Germany will actually listen to it's citizens on this, polls show that 3 out of 4 people don't want their government to sell arms to Israel anymore which shows the population of Germany don't have much faith that Israel is acting legally.

This is really concerning. International observers really need to be able to access Gaza and find out what on earth is going on in there.

A new report published by the Harvard database reveals that Israel has “disappeared” at least 377,000 Palestinians since the start of its genocidal campaign against the Gaza Strip in 2023.

Half of this number is believed to be Palestinian children.

The report was written by Israeli professor Yaakov Garb, who used data-driven analysis and spatial mapping to show how the Israeli army’s siege of Gaza and indiscriminate attacks on civilians in the enclave have led to a serious drop in its population.

The 377,000 Palestinians who are unaccounted for due to Israel’s genocide are approximately 17 percent of the Gaza Strip’s entire population, which now stands at about 1.85 million. Prior to the war in Gaza, the strip’s population was estimated at 2.227 million.

Harvard study finds Israel ‘disappeared’ nearly 400,000 Palestinians in Gaza, half of them children: Report

The study uses data-driven analysis and spatial mapping to highlight a severe decline in Gaza’s population due to Israel’s indiscriminate attacks and siege

Can anyone help explain to me why Netanyahu killed civilians in Gaza but not in Iran? Seems to be intentional but I don't get why.

Well, let's first be clear that the Israeli right don't give a shit about any Muslim life, anywhere. However, it's only in Gaza and the West Bank (or Judea and Samaria, as some on this board would no doubt have it) where indiscriminate civilian deaths serve the strategic goal of eliminating the Palestinians or making their lives unliveable.

Eyesopenwideawake · 27/06/2025 22:40

In case anyone's missed it - 66 babies have died of starvation in Gaza.

That's what? Two nursery's full of dead children.

The article must have been withdrawn because of this;

Did a 'Harvard report' reveal 377,000 Gazans are 'missing'? The number has been misinterpreted..

I think a lot of these discussions revolve around power.

Thousands of marchers through London - no change

Missions shcoked posts on SM - no change

Trump shooting 'don't drop the bombs' - the bombs stop. 1 man. 1 man with power.

I think some settlement between Gazans and Israel needs US input so it will be interesting to see if Trumps she falls on Gaza again. Maybe he will see a situation of two enemies 'not knowing the fuck they are doing' and push Witkoff a bit more to see if peace can be acheived.
