And with the people who defend, justify and support these actions...

Can you imagine if this happened in Israel? There would be wall to wall coverage. Our politicians would be on tv telling us how horrific and evil it is. But it’s Palestine so we get their silent complicity instead. Hell isn’t hot enough for the people who support and defend this.

Israel refuses the exchange of all the hostages for a permanent ceasefire.

This seems to mean that the idea that all Hamas needs to do is give up the hostages and the war would stop, is not likely to be the case.

That article is shocking. How could anyone read that and say that the reason Israel are destroying Gaza is because of the hostages because it clearly is not.

Agreed. It was never about the hostages. Anyone who says "this would all end if they release the hostages" is lying. If it was about the hostages Israel would have proceeded with stage two of the ceasefire and wouldn't have bombed Gaza on the 18th of March. If it was about the hostages, Israel would accept the release of all the hostages for a permanent ceasefire. It's obvious that what's happening in Gaza is ethnic cleansing.

Haaretz (Israeli news) March 31

Ending the Gaza War Is Not on Netanyahu's Agenda Under Any Circumstances, Even to Return Hostages
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu clearly stated at Sunday's cabinet meeting that even if a deal is reached to free all hostages, ending the war is not on the agenda.

Netanyahu made the end of the war dependent on disarming Hamas and exiling its surviving leaders. If that were not enough, Israel is demanding control of Gaza's security to implement U.S. President Donald Trump's migration plan.

Netanyahu claimed that the hostages were important to the government and that he and his wife regularly met the families' representatives, but the announcement's message was clear – not only to the families, but also to Hamas' leadership.

In order to bring the hostages back, Netanyahu is prepared to exchange prisoners and provide limited humanitarian aid, but ending the war is not on the agenda.

Every sentence in that statement is carefully considered and evaluated based on its position. Its words echoed in the offices of the region's leaders, in particular in the palaces of Egyptian President Abdel al-Sissi and Jordanian King Abdullah II. The objections to Trump's migration plan are no longer relevant. The same is true for the Egyptian-Arab reconstruction plan adopted by the Arab League summit in Cairo in early March.

Arab leaders and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas can dream about ruling Gaza or establishing a technocratic committee to administer Gaza as a prelude to the Palestinian Authority's return, but it will remain a dream. The Palestinians, who have been dreaming for 75 years, will continue to do so – reality for Netanyahu and his government is decided on the ground with tanks, jets, and checkpoints.

Gaza is isolated and closed, and Israel is pulverizing it. Its residents – even those who demonstrated against Hamas – can only decide whether to die in it or get out, with the "encouragement" of the Israeli government and the backing of the American superpower under Trump's leadership.

Exactly and we’ve all been saying this from the beginning. He’s not even hiding it anymore. So the argument “this will all end if Hamas releases the hostages” won’t wash with anyone anymore.

Israel has attacked one more time a school. There is at least 29 people killed. Half of them children

BBC reporting of this event includes statements from both sides:

At least 27 Palestinians have been killed in an Israeli air strike on a school in northern Gaza that was serving as a shelter for displaced families, the Hamas-run health ministry says.
Dozens more were wounded when the Dar al-Arqam school in the north-eastern Tuffah district of Gaza City was hit, it cited a local hospital as saying.
The Israeli military said it struck "prominent terrorists who were in a Hamas command and control centre" in the city, without mentioning a school.
The health ministry earlier reported the killing of another 97 people in Israeli attacks over the previous 24 hours, as Israel said its ground offensive was expanding to seize large parts of the Palestinian territory.
The spokesman for Gaza's Hamas-run Civil Defence agency, Mahmoud Bassal, said children and women were among the dead following the strike on Dar al-Arqam school.
He also said a woman who was heavily pregnant with twins was missing along with her husband, her sister, and her three children.
Video from the nearby al-Ahli hospital showed children being rushed there in cars and trucks with serious injuries.
A statement from the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) said the site in Gaza City that it struck had been used by Hamas fighters to plan attacks against Israeli civilians and troops.
It added that numerous steps had been taken to mitigate harm to civilians.

I saw the footage of this, no words for such cruelty.

I think we have known that for months now. Doesn’t stop some from pretending that it would end the war tomorrow in order to lay 100% of the death and destruction at the feet of Hamas.

No one is trying to lay 100% of the death & destruction at the feet of Hamas. Why exaggerate?

Some people are, notably Israeli political leaders. I’m not exaggerating.
Why are you taking this personally? I didn’t say you were doing it.

I didn’t say you said I was doing it … I just asked why you are exaggerating?

I don’t think even Israeli political leaders could really be claiming that 100% of the death & destruction lies at the feet of Hamas. They have taken responsibility for many military operations & acknowledged that Palestinian civilians have been killed during these operations though they were not the target.

I do not agree that I am exaggerating.
On another thread right now posters (other than you) are blaming Hamas as the cause of all deaths, including Palestinians.

They still lay the blame on Hamas. How many US and Israeli politicians have you seen repeating that it's all on Hamas? Quite a few. That's not even starting how many posts I have seen on mumsnet repeating the same thing.

I guess what they mean is the current conflict is all on Hamas because they did literally start it. But all the deaths are not on Hamas.

Israel obviously could have chosen not to retaliate or not to break the ceasefire. That is on them. But again, none of the deaths in this conflict would have happened without Hamas instigating the violence on October 7th 2023.

SugarandSpiceandAllThingsNaice · 04/04/2025 13:14

you have just done it
none of the deaths in this conflict would have happened without Hamas instigating the violence on October 7th 2023.

Is exactly the same as saying
all of the deaths in this conflict would not have happened without Hamas instigating the violence on October 7th 2023

It’s factual that none of the deaths on either side of the conflict would have happened had October 7th not happened.

But Israel did have a choice how to respond. So I wouldn’t say Hamas are 100% responsible for all the deaths though they should accept a huge part of the burden for starting a war they realistically couldn’t win.
