Conflict in the Middle East

Suella Braverman has "close family members in the Isreali military "

Her husband is a "very proud member of the Jewish community" and lived in Isreal.

Clearly, the conflict must feel quite personal to her and clouds her judgement?

She wrote 'deeply offensive' article on pro-Palestinian march which “was not cleared by Number 10”.

It was also a deeply stupid article because she criticised the Orange Order marches thinking that they were from the nationalist/republican side of the conflict when they're actually pro-union.

She's clueless.

Green777 · 12/11/2023 21:47

She’s an utter deluded twit trying to actively divide Jewish and Arab communities.

How embarrassing for her that most of the arrests were from far right counter protestors attacking the police and members of the public calling them ‘terrorists’. Not a brain cell between them, riled up by Cruella’s articles.

This makes sense as to why she called pro Palestine marches ‘hate marches’ and ‘mobs’.

Agreed.

Ah, her husband's background does explain her stance to an extent. Doesn't excuse it, but does explain. Plus her children are of Jewish descent so she is presumably scared for them as well, and fear doesn't drive us to make the most clever decisions.

Oaktree55 · 13/11/2023 19:12

Keir Starmer's wife and children are Jewish. In case people weren't aware.

decionsdecisions62 · 13/11/2023 19:15

She's an absolute . I don't give a monkeys if she's scared. She's in a position of power, extreme power and should be professional enough to do her job. Glad she's gone. Good riddance.

victarion · 13/11/2023 19:20

There are politicians with family in Gaza, are there judgements clouded?

Not defending SB but there are plenty of ways to criticise her without bringing her husband's ethnicity into this.

Like it isn't constantly brought up.

There’s nothing remotely scared about that woman. If she was scared for her children with jewish descent theres no way she’d be flirting with the far right!

User135644 · 13/11/2023 19:52

Yes, her personal feelings/situation seemed to impact her ability to stay professional and do her job.

Corbyn as a potential PM was deemed a national security risk, precisely because of a situation like this, as he was seen to be more on the side of Palestine (Israel are our allies). It doesn't excuse Braverman's bloodlust though.

Believe Wikipedia

ItsNotJustaBunFightItsanAIBUBunfight · 13/11/2023 21:26

Maybe. But doesn't explain why her judgement has been "clouded" (to put it mildly) on practically every other decision too

She's a ruthless careerist politician who has determined her best way to the top is to pander to the very right wing and is too stupid to do it with any subtlety

Inauthentic · 14/11/2023 00:45

If she was scared for her children with jewish descent theres no way she’d be flirting with the far right!

Fair point. And it cost her job.
I would add to that that she didn't just flirt with the far right. She is the far right.

Interestingly she is the daughter of immigrants.

Yes, she seems to be very Trump-like in this respect.

The people she blew the whistle for are exactly the sort of people who would eject her (and Rishi) from 'engerland' if they had any power, her husband too...the far right aren't buddies with Jewish people (or anybody really, apart from red-faced white fat men 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿)

I'm overjoyed she's gone, she genuinely scares me!

She is the biggest contradiction around.

I dread to think what she will get up to now.

She's not gone. She's placed herself as an ever-righter right winger to go for leadership. It's all very bad news.

noblegiraffe · 14/11/2023 07:14

Perhaps Jews could wear some sort of marker.

Perhaps we could start putting brackets around their names when talking about them.

Maybe someone could compile a list of them.

This is what baffles me. I have a feeling she has done this deliberately, accepting that being sacked by Rishi is the price to be paid to really appeal to the far right

Dulra · 14/11/2023 07:22

She is a top level mp, home secretary, pretty unprofessional if she lets her personal life/ experiences cloud her judgement

Keir Starmer's wife and children are Jewish. In case people weren't aware.

That explains why he won't condemn the genocide.

How? How does it explain it? Be explicit.
