Generally speaking: I personally expect my leaders to display a "working level" of humanity.
Yes, that includes "not essentially - pretending to speak in my name - giving a carte blanche to foreign leaders whose far-right, racist, ethno-nationalist mission statements are well known" - among other things!
I would expect my PM to call for a ceasefire at this point! Look, if Colombia (you know - the people recently in a war with FARC) does a better job than you, you may sort of be doing this wrong!
I would expect my PM to condemn the atrocities that were committed against Israeli civilians - but I would also expect them to take the "but if you target civilians, that actually happens to be a war crime" angle, rather than the "I hope you win" one towards a state whose government continues to descend into darker, more apocalyptic rhethoric - and not only since 7/10.
But then, I would have long expected my government to display the same committment to humanity here, at home! It is SHAMEFUL that we have people relying on food banks in the UK!
It is shameful that, as a British expat (that is a nice word for "immigrant, but from a nice country, with a professional job"), I actually find myself wanting to apologise for having told people their health care system was "anti-human" - when not only has the NHS been hollowed out almost beyond recognition, but also: there is that small situation where maybe my supposed PM - a.k.a. "billionnaire boy" - seems to be perfectly okay with patients in Gaza undergoing emergency surgery without anaestesia.
Finally, I would expect my government to be a bit more savvy than to fall hook, line, and sinker, for the false dichotomy that is "well, it is either Hamas or your consent to genocide"!
I am NOT a political strategist - but I AM a tech industry professional. So, consider these some of my "functional requirements"!
