MLS I'm not sure what to advise, will a huge hug be any good?

MrsKate · 06/04/2010 16:51

just a quick pop in to say thinking of monkey xxxxxxx

4everhopeful · 06/04/2010 18:03

Oh Mls how bloody awful, after all the worry of bein in hospital as well as whats goin on with monkey.. If its borderline cut off point, personally id be cautious re tests cos of mc risk & often the case that odds can be bad but baby can go onto be fine.. Do u know what nuchal fold measurement was? Were there any oth 'soft markers'? (nasal bone etc) Im just back from work then hospital after physio for spd & only on 3hrs sleep so not functioning v well but will be lurking if u need to chat! X x x x x

VJay · 06/04/2010 18:06

mls my sil had something similar. She had a long chat with her mw and decided not to go ahead with any tests. She had had a mc previously and the nuchal had been fine, she put it down to her age. Baby was fine The mw also explained that although the odds are 1 in X, then means there are X chances of baby being fine. Wasn't it lion who had this and then had an amnio?

OP posts:
MummyLovesSadie · 06/04/2010 18:12

The nuchal fold was 1.3mm. She said one of my hormones was slightly raised but also said that this can happen if you've had a bleed which I did two weeks before. Also I've read that if your dates are inaccurate then that can affect the results & they have now added a whole week onto the dates that I've calculated.

VJay · 06/04/2010 18:16

mls I remember the doctor taking note of my bleeds when they took my 16 week bloods as it can effect the result. I don't know much about the nuchal fold as I didn't have that test done.

Could they offer you another scan to look for soft markers without the risk to your baby that CVS and Amnio could be? Have you tracked down your DH yet?

iggypiggy · 06/04/2010 18:35

Sorry for quick post, have been away, but wanted to post to monkey and say that i've been thinking of you loads today and am so sorry that I couldn't post to you before and give you more support.

I can't imagine what you are going through, but I hope that you can take some small crumb of comfort from this thread and know that we are all thinking of you. Xxx

will post properly tomorrow.

4everhopeful · 06/04/2010 18:47

Mls 1.3mm is absolutely fine & of no major risk! Ours was 6mm which went to 8mm, monkeys was 3.1mm.. If they are simply goin on the bloods which could of been affected by dates & ur illness or bleed i would absolutely insist upon another scan to check for soft markers & perhaps re do ur bloods before u even consider tests.. Remember age comes into play & whilst researching our nuchal fold issue i read many stories where outcomes were absolutely fine.. Hope this helps a bit.. X

MummyLovesSadie · 06/04/2010 18:50

Thanks girls. Yes I've managed to get hold of dh who is being very helpful. He's spoken to a guy who works for him who had a similar thing happen I didn't realise but their odd were actually 1 in 18. They opted for an amnio which came out all clear & she was due to give birth over the weekend but is now overdue. Dh has mentioned having a private scan & I think they would check for other soft markers. I am more keen to have an amnio than he is, if anything is wrong with the baby I'd rather know & be prepared. I really really want to speak to my lovely consultant, I've emailed him loads of questions but I don't think he actually works in the hospital more that a day or so a week.

Monkey still thinking about you.

MummyLovesSadie · 06/04/2010 18:52

Thanks 4ever, would a baby with ds definitely have a thicker nuchal fold or just sometimes? Oh God I have about a million questions whizzing about in my head.

MummyLovesSadie · 06/04/2010 19:05

Dh home, he can't understand why I'm worrying. He thinks the odds are good & we should definitely not have a private scan. Not helpful.

bluesatinsash · 06/04/2010 19:08

MLS - you sound a bit calmer. As I said in my txt and as Vjay said, early bleeding does sqooiff their statistics and probabilities and affected my odds with both boys. I was not far from cut off for downs with Ben..

FWIW DH cousin has DS2 with downs and nothing showed up on scan, nuchal fine no other soft markers so it works both ways.

Glad your DH has been a good help.

monkey brave, strong lady I hope and pray you were treated wth the utmost care and attention today xxxxx

There's another angel in heaven tonight..

4everhopeful · 06/04/2010 19:12

As far as i know our 3rd babys massive nuchal fold was definately indicitive of one of the trisomys, either downs, edwards or pattaus & we hadnt even had bloods done when we were first told of poss outcomes, that was from the fold measurements alone.. In fact altho bloods were done it was all based on the measurements for us.. After all the mc the risk of amnio was too much for us so id def investigate further scans etc.. Hope im helping!

BlueMoon1981 · 06/04/2010 19:15

monkey another one sending my thoughts, was thinking of you at work today. blue i cried when you said another angel in heaven tonight, i hope all our lost lo's are up there together.

mls i'm afraid i have no experience of what you are going through, but big hugs and fingers crossed, these girls seem to know the best advice

4everhopeful · 06/04/2010 19:17

Yes must just add that i went in hospital chapel after physio today & asked god to take care of monkeys baby & to give them all the strength to get through this.. Have been thinking of her all day..

MummyLovesSadie · 06/04/2010 19:22

The reason my dh is being so relaxed about it is because he's global head of risk & analytical services at his company so he calculates risks & odds for a living, therefore he thinks our odds are pretty good.

MummyLovesSadie · 06/04/2010 19:23

Blue I missed what you said about there being another angel in heaven.

GracieGirl · 06/04/2010 19:27

Blue I cried too. I hope Moon is right and all our lost LO's are playing together up in heaven.

Monkey - "An angel looked in the book of life to find your baby's date of birth, then gently closed that book of life and whispered "too precious for this earth".

VJay · 06/04/2010 19:38

blue that is so sad, another angel in heaven tonight , bit it will not be alone .

gracie that's nice xx

Monkey I hope you are getting through today, have been thinking of you

Gracie that's a lovely quote.

MLS I'm so sorry things are not straightforward. I agree with the others, I would push for another scan to check for soft markers before going for an amnio/cvs. I'm not sure where you live, but the Fetal Medicine Centre in London are supposed to be the best if you decide to go private. I think that's what we would have done if we were in a similar situation to you.

I've spent most of the day at the EPU having phoned this morning about the bleeding and they wanted me to come in. Dildocam showed a clot and they have gave me the option of waiting to see if the clot goes on its own or go for an ERPC. Apparently there is an 80% risk of it going by itself. My heart wanted to get it over with but my logical side has said its more sensible to wait and avoid another op. So another 2 weeks in limbo-land. Have a scan booked for 2 weeks and if it hasn't gone by then will have to have another ERPC. I really don't know if I've made the right decision

We need some good news on this thread I think. Someone must have something good happening

4everhopeful · 06/04/2010 20:28

Just heard from poor monkey she is havin 'bearable' contractions but still waiting... ....Louey so sorry to hear that, i needed a 2nd erpc for our 3rd baby, its awful cos it leaves u in limbo while u wait to see if it passes naturally, we waited 4wks & it delayed our investigations & made me feel unable to 'move on' a complete headf* heart goes out to u.. X

BlueMoon1981 · 06/04/2010 20:34

poor monkey

and louey so sorry you are having to go through more crap, fwiw any decision is not right or wrong, you just have to go with what feels right and we are here any time you need us.

yes we definitely need some nice news, best i can do is say af finished yest so some serious bding on the cards me thinks

CurlyBigPants · 07/04/2010 00:11

monkey just want u to know I'm thinking of you xxx

mls I'm sorry to hear you have more to worry about. I think it's your decision but personally I felt that as I would have kept the baby even with downs that I would not risk mc just to know for sure. Do whatever feels right for you xxx

Lots of love to louey. I had the same but it all came out before I had to have the second erpc so hopefully it will be the same for you

CurlyBigPants · 07/04/2010 08:57

Woke up thinking of monkey and can't bear to think of what she may have been through but I'm just hoping it is over and we can wrap her up in that cotton wool and try and help her through the next stage. Lots of love to you monkey xxx

reading over my words to mls last night I winced as I sounded a bit like my mum who is lovely but always gives me advice along the lines of "it's up to you but this is what I think you should do...". I didn't mean to come across as judgemental hon. I think what I was trying to say was that if the results if an amnio would impact on whether you continue with the pregnancy then it may be a good idea. But if it wouldn't then I personally wouldn't risk mc just for the sake of knowing. It's really hard honey. After what you have been through already I wish you didn't have to have this stress also. I would def recommend a private scan. Are you in Sussex? There is a very good private hospital in Kent called the Alexander spire where a consultant does the scans so can advise you afterwards xxx

moon go make us some good news honey. I've a feeling this has got to be moon month
