Can anyone advise? We have 1 lovely son now 3 conceived in about 3 weeks. A miscarriage last year and trying (since then) for 18 months. Just found out my husband has a sperm count of 3 million - so low the consultant couldn't believe it. Lucky he has met our son! Only chance now for a second is ICSI. Problem is that I am not sure I can - call me a coward (and I am) but the idea of the injections not to mention the effect of the drugs themselves, scares me stupid. What will it do to me, our life, our son? So my question - has anyone any advice to improve sperm count. Has anyone else faced anything similar and what helped them make up their minds. Is IVF always awful? How much variation is there between clinics as to drug regimes, types etc. Sorry stabbing in the dark as I seem to have so many questions I don't know where to start

Thanks Earplugs. Un-mumsnetty hugs coming your way

Wigglesmummy · 27/05/2010 14:24

Hi all. So sorry. I lost you and thought Mumsnet had decided we'd been taking up too much space or something. Didn't mean to b off like that.
How are you both/ all? SO Earplugs is going for IVF - I wish you well. Had I been braver and younger ... Hope it goes well and feel free to moan at us. What about Lilybunny. Any decisions? Fingers crossed for you both
By the way trip to Barcelona was not as we planned. DS v ill for the entire time and after. I then got it and was ill for 2 weeks! We plan to try again next year! The idea was right though and we still say we're glad we went.

Wiggles - so sorry your trip didn't work out too well. Just wanted to let you know that I'm still thinking about you all, and I check back here every now and again to see how you're doing.

earplugs: fingers crossed for the IVF clinic.

Lily - any news on your tubes? (That sounds a bit weird doesn't it?)

Earplugs · 28/05/2010 23:01

Thanks for the kind wishes ladies and good to hear from you.

Sorry the holiday didn't go according to plan Wiggle, isn't it just typical. I always seem to pick up a streaming cold whenever I've been on a flight, obviously nowhere near as bad as being ill for 2 weeks but still disappointing. Great that you'll try again next year, you obviously did like the look of the little that you did get the chance to see?

As for being brave, I'm afraid I can't confess to that myself but I have to say the clinic have been wonderful so far, very calming and reassuring. Of course I haven't really even started yet (next week, gulp) but we do feel like we're in good hands and its been amazing how the pressure of ttc has been lifted after making the decision.

Did you get more investigations in the end Lilly?

Lilybunny · 02/06/2010 21:12

Hello all, I'm pleased to see you all!

Sorry about your holiday Wiggle, glad to hear that you still want to go back though.

You sound so upbeat about the IVF Earplugs, it's great. Got everything crossed for you both.

Hi Huckabees! I'm still waiting for the dye job on my tubes, seems to be taking ages for the swab results to reach our referal centre... must chase them up. Hopefully get an appointment soon.

Love to all, great you are all back for a visit! xxx

Wigglesmummy · 09/06/2010 16:32

Hi again - well how are the appointments going? How are you doing/ feeling Earplugs. great to have a good clinic where you feel looked after. I agree about just making the decision and getting on with it. Somehow whatever you do, just having a decision takes a lot of the 'badness' away. My fingers and toes and pretty well everything are crossed for you.
What about Lily - Are you having a HYCoSy or the other one (can't remember what thats called either really or in abbreviations)? I had a HyCoSy before we knew it was a sperm problem. Not the most fun I've had in an afternoon but perfectly OK and over pretty quickly (and I'm no superwoman). Shout if you want to talk it over at all.
As for holiday - typical how the more you look forward to something, the more compromised it is! When DS was a baby I always felt that if I planned something to do in his nap time then inevitably he wouldn't go down. Same with Barcelona really. We'll have other holidays ... in fact might start planning another soon. Is 3 too young for Egypt?
Lots of hugs to Huckabees for showing me the other end of the tunnel - I am getting to like it here and to start thinking about the freedom ...!
