I am so glad that everyone here seems to have limited experience of newborns....I was convinced I was the only one. Between us DH and I have never EVER changed a single nappy!! I've been told by a number of people that I look quite natural holding babies though - but then I can give those back once they cry. Will be very different once I'm the one who has to stop it crying.

Hopefully it'll all come naturally to us

Bunny... I'm not so worried about changing nappies. Although neither DH or I have ever changed a baby's nappy, I've changed the nappies of several children and adults with autism, and as a result, I think a baby (who can't get up and run away from you!) will be no problem!

Incidently, my gran always loved telling the story of my first nappy change. Dad had just taken her to the hospital to see me for the first time. When they arrived, Mum was sitting, in tears, looking at me lying there, with my full nappy open beside me, unable to cope with the thought of dealing with it on her own! Gran didn't want to step on Dad's toes (she was Mum's mum) so she decided to let him "save the day"... Quite confident, Dad said he'd deal with it, no problem. Faffed about for a minute or two with baby wipes, then scooped me up and carried me over to the sink, where he promptly stuck on the COLD tap (he doesn't even deny this!) and held my bum under it! I bawled (naturally!), which made Mum cry even more and half-terrified Dad. Gran (mother of seven of her own babies) then finally took over and gave me my first change! I can barely even imagine that scene with my parents being so completely and utterly useless! Funny though!

WhiteRoses · 18/11/2009 20:28

Sorry Emsie, missed your post there! I, for one, definitely hope you will stay! Good news that you have no symptoms - hoping it stays that way!

CJ2007 · 18/11/2009 22:44

Just a quick update from me, still no af but bfn this morning so expecting the witch to arrive soon! There's always wine until next month!!!
Wishing lots more bfp's for every one..
Xxx

Quick sneaky peek in from work!

Homebound welcome in, I'm quite new here too and everyone is lovely, you'll be hooked in no time!

EmsieRo please do stay and keep us updated!

Best of luck to all you testers this week/weekend, fingers are crossed for lots more positives!

My friend phoned last night to tell me that after 3 IVF she is pregnant with twins I'm so jealous but so pleased for her.

I'm a bit nervous about newborns but when my twin had her DD I had quite a lot of getting to hold her, change the odd nappy etc so not too worried about that. Bathing her was scary though, slippery when wet LOL! It's the BF that I'm nervous about, want to do it but it looked sore when my sis's DD got teeth ooowchh!

Better get back to work, bye for now xx

kkas · 19/11/2009 09:36

morning all - work has been quite crazy the past few days and looks likely to stay that way until the end of the week.

feeling a bit crampy this morning, so AF may be on its way.... but if not, i probably will test on monday with pixie and whiteroses here's hoping for even more bfps this month!

my sister had a baby last year too, so i have had some experience in helping her out when i went home for a few weeks over the past year. but lately i have just been able to see the lovely little one over skype. it's amazing she recognises me and grandma (our mum) talking to her over the internet!

Hello everyone, I go away for a few days and we get 2 BFP - so pleased for Sevans and Em.

I havent had chance to read through the whole of the tread as I am at work but just wanted to say a quick hi.

No real news for me, I have had the queasiness (sp?) on and off for a few days but did a test last tursday night and it was a BFN but could have been stupidly early if I am on a long cycle. Pretty certain that I am pregnant as I have no other symptoms and just dont feel pregnant! I did however get a 2 pack of First response so I am going to hold off till next friday to test if AF hasnt arrived by then.

Will catch up with you all when I have had chance to read eveyones post but it may be a couple of days as things are bad here at the moment!!

pixiestix · 19/11/2009 15:00

Zippys - hello, I was wondering where you were!

Just wanted to warn you all that I wont have internet for the next two days (yep, just at the most crucial time!) so when you don't hear from me its not coz I have got a BFN and gone to throw myself off a bridge! I will be back on Sunday to fill everyone in on the joy that is my AF spotting!!

Good luck everyone!

homebound · 19/11/2009 16:33

Thankyou for all the happy wishes everyone, you have really lifted my spirits!

Im still without AF on CD 50...still no BFP...so dont know whats going on! Have tested twice a day every day for a week....lol...gosh and they say babies are expensive!!!! Conceiving is!! LOL

Here are my stats:
TTC#1 cycle 3 UCL 30-32 CD 50!!!!
(started counting again after MC, but that was the first cycle..)

I have a quite a bit of experience with babies through friends and family and a newborn i looked after until she was 3 so im pretty experienced (im sure its nothing compared to the real thing)...but ill tell ya this, my best friend had never even held a newborn until it was her own..and she is the best mum ive ever seen...so you all will be fine and im convinced that its the newbies that are better!

claireinthecommunity · 19/11/2009 16:43

Oooh, the next few days are going to be exciting here, I hope all those getting near to testing all get their bfps

My little visitor is coming next week now. A neighbour bumped into mum and baby in the week and has said how lovely the little boy is - looking forward to meeting him!

As for my experience with babies - not a lot really. I've been around various little ones and held them for a while, but never got stuck in with feeding or changing. I've spent a lot of time with slightly older children, say toddler and up, they can be such fun! (I suppose that's just it though - when they're not your own, you do do all the fun stuff with them and leave all the shitty stuff to their mum and dad - How things will change

I'm officially back on the broody bus - have been finding myself increasingly looking on the Mothercare website

blueberrynoo · 19/11/2009 18:13

Evening Ladies,

Sorry for the lack of posting, it's been a hectic week at work! Congratulations to Sevans and EmsieRo!! So very pleased for you both!!

I hope everyone else is OK and those coming up to testing - good luck!

For the last few days I have still been having the odd spotting and bleeding, as well as some lower abdominal pain, but not cramp and not like my normal period. I was getting pretty worried as it just wasn't usual for me. Anyway, AF came this afternoon and to be honest, I am a little relieved as I had panicked myself so much into thinking that it could be an EP or infection etc

I still don't know why I had been spotting since CD17, maybe my hormones are out of sync? I hope not as I've been having reflexology to get them into sync!! Will monitor this cycle and try and find out why!!

I'm going to read up on everyone's news now.

Btw, anyone used mooncups before? Wondered if they are any good?

WhiteRoses · 19/11/2009 19:09

Hi everyone,

CJ - good news that there's no sign yet of AF.

Calyx - that's great news for your friend. Those babies sound very wanted! And it'll be more good practise for you, I'm sure! Plus a couple of nice little playmates for you baby, whenever he/she arrives!

Hadn't thought about the bathing and "slippery when wet" side of things... Still, like with everything else, if others can do it, I'm sure we all can too!

To be honest, breastfeeding worries me a lot too. REALLY hope I can do it - think I'd be a bit devastated if I couldn't! What about the rest of you? Will you all want to breastfeed if possible, or will some of you go straight for the nice easy fomrula?!

Kkas - here's hoping for you that the cramps aren't a bad sign. How long's your usual cycle?

Isn't Skype amazing?! So funny to think of a baby sitting there, using a webcam!

Zippys - if you hold out from testing for a whole eight days I'll be VERY impressed! I think if I was you (feeling queasy) I'd be going and annoying my doctor too! Good luck anyway! So far sounding pretty promising!

Pixie!!! Can't believe you're going to be internetless like that! Don't know if I could cope! Will be looking forward to hearing your update anyway though! Good luck! x

Gosh, Homebound! That really IS overdue! Have you thought about going to your doctor? Do you have any pregnancy symptoms? Were your cycles normal after MC? Is it normal for them to be messed up now? I've added you to the list below.

Claire, I've not allowed myself onto sites like Mothercare! As it is, I'm spending a ridiculous amount of time reading up about conception and pregnancy - I worry that if I don't restrain myself, I might end up spending ALL my time online!

My test on Monday, I'm really expecting to be a waste of time. I've had no definte signs of ovulation at all this month and it's quite likely that AF may still be over 2.5wks away! So here's hoping for both Kkas and Pixie.

kkas · 19/11/2009 19:26

aw thanks whiteroses. although i'm not convinced i'll have anything to test cuz i have been having those odd cramps all day. really think AF is on her way! this is only my 4th month off the pill. i had two really regular 28 day cycles, but then the last month was only 19 days (or it could have been that i had mid-cycle spotting which i thought was AF - it was very light) which would mean this is only cycle 3 and cycle 2 was very long.... have no idea. guess what it really means is that my body is still settling down after the pill.

but i have been temping regularly and this month shows a clear pattern of ov. plus i feel like i'm post-ov - boobs big, bloated, put on some weight, spotty. so at least i can be reassured that this cycle seems pretty normal even if AF does make her appearance this weekend plus won't mind the instant slimming down my body goes through after the first couple days of AF. does anyone else notice such a change in their waistline?

homebound · 19/11/2009 20:25

LOL...whiteroses...my name is homebound not homebody...i am laughin, but im a homebody too so either way ill answer..lol.

I have acquired a UTI...(prolly from all the baby dancing) and i wondered if that was slowing things up in the AF area, but dont know. Doc asked me if i thought i was preggers when i went for meds for the UTI, but said i had done lots of tests and nothing. Im due for my NEXT cycle Wednesday, so if I dont get anything then I will go. I dont think I feel preggers, i feel really really sick all day everyday, but that could so be easily be the antibiotics Im on....ooooooohhhhhh the confusion!!! If only things were simple eh! The wierdest thing...all my first urine tests have not worked for the last 3 days...gonna do the strips tomorrow as they are fool proof. Never thought a preg test would ever be like that and always thought numptys had problems with em...but here i am...numpty #1

So happy for the graduates!

Spirael · 20/11/2009 08:21

Morning all! Hope everyone is doing ok this morning.

I'm intending to breastfeed, WhiteRoses. No idea how good I'll be at it, but hopefully I'll be successful! I'm also planning on getting a pump so that if I'm struggling (or getting chewed on) I can feed breast milk from a bottle. It also gives DH a chance to feed, which I think he'd like.

I actually dragged my DH into the big Mothercare World store last night, Claire. I think it was useful though, I'm starting to try and get my head around what I want to do in terms of baskets/cribs/cots/cotbeds so I can plan for getting the future nursery redecorated around Easter time. Calling in favours from friends, of course, rather than inhaling paint fumes myself.

Got my scan on Monday guys long time comming around feels like its been 9 months already!! Im really really nervous!! I know everything will be ok but it does not take the nervouness away!!

xxxxxxxx

sevans · 20/11/2009 14:47

Thanks fulham! I was rather in shock that it happened. I still am, actually! If I am calculating correctly, I am due July 20 and about 5 1/2 weeks now. I've only so far told my mother. I am going to wait to tell the rest of the family and a few friends after my first appointment which is Dec 1! I will be right at 7 weeks at that point and will be getting an ultrasound. I'm just really nervous and still taking my temp everyday to make sure it stays up. If pregnancy tests weren't so expensive I would probably be taking them daily too! I've been feeling OK. I've been noticeably hungrier, peeing a lot more, and experiencing some fatigue. I will get little stomach cramps every once in a while but they only last a few minutes. I like to think of it as the baby reminding me it is in there! Good luck at your scan on Monday! I can't wait to hear how it goes!

Any news from anyone? We have so many girls near the end of their cycles! So exciting!

morning everyone! i found out last night i passed the California Bar Exam, so once i take the oath, i will be qualified to practise law in both the UK and CA! very happy as this was the one last hurdle to jump over before really starting for a family. if i hadn't passed, i would have had to make the decision whether to put TTC on hold while i try to pass it again.... but really happy i don't have to make that choice!!!!! everyone break out the champers(and oj for our pg friends) on me!!!!

my chart is currently showing what could have been an implantation dip, but i didn't get a lot of sleep last night (the results came out at 2am London time) so i am not sure whether to trust it.... cramps and bloating is gone, so i have no idea what to expect. am still going to wait until Monday to test though

hope you guys have a great weekend!

WOW KKAS, that really really great! what an intellegent woman you must be to do that! Well done hunny, really pleased for you!

claireinthecommunity · 21/11/2009 13:51

Well done kkas, that's fantastic news I shall be raising a glass (or two) to you this evening!

Af is approaching for me, DH and I have been getting some practice in for next months return to TTC

I wonder if we'll have anymore bfps for this month? (fingers crossed ).

WhiteRoses · 21/11/2009 14:12

Kkas - huge congratulations about the exam! That's excellent news! And sounds good about the temperatures - or at least not bad. Here's hoping for Monday! (Oh and in reply to yesterday's post, if my waistline expands, it stays that way! )

Homebound - Oops! Sorry! Blame that on my numpty-ness!! Very strange over all your tests. But hopefully the UTI will clear up soon and it'll all sort itself out. How long are you on antibiotics for?

Spireal - I'm so jealous happy for you, thinking about planning your nursery! Seriously, it must be so exciting! Are you still feeling well too?

Fulham - I was thinking about you yesterday, thinking you'd be all excited and nervous! Not long to go now!

Sevans - how come you're getting such an early scan? That's great. You must be dead excited! Is your mum over the moon too? What about your mother in law? Does your DH not want to tell her? 20th July's great. A lovely summer baby. He/she will be the envy of his/her friends, never having to go to school on his/her birthday!

Emsie - not "feeling" pregnant's not a bad thing! I don't think any of the symptoms sound particularly pleasant!

Claire - glad to hear about the practise!

News from me is that I've had very bad cramps all morning - expecting AF to arrive any minute. Still, nearly finished work now and then off till Tuesday, which will be nice... Ugh, oh well, I'll keep you posted anyway. But good luck to Kkas and Pixie anyway!
