Wow, its all kicked off here hasn't it? Congratulations Spirael that's fantastic news!

Sorry AF got you Honeymoo, I think wine and chocolate is the only suitable prescription in these circumstances.

I have emerged from post AF gloom and am feeling a bit more optimistic. There's babydust in the air and we might get one to stick this month. As I've been off the pill for over a year now and nature seems a bit reluctant to take its course, I think it might be time we paid a visit to the docs. I'm going to give it till Christmas and then seek medical advice.

To increase our chances this month, I plan to try the grapefruit juice, increase the frequency of BDing (we tend to aim for every 3 days, and don't always achieve that - too old and knackered!) and knock the booze completely on the head. I have cut down alot (except for binging everytime AF hits) but I think it might maximise my chances if I cut it out completely.

Good luck everyone, here's hoping for more BFPs by Christmas.

chalky3 · 08/11/2009 11:40

Congratulations Spirael that's great news! I'm sure u will never hear the end of it from your OH but at least it's a good thing for him to be right about! Like the sound of him spotting your moodiness, had a similar comment from DH a couple of days ago. Trying to put the thought of PMT symptoms out of my mind!

I POAS on Friday and got a BFN, unsurprising really as it was prob too early. Going to hold off til next Friday when AF should have arrived (hopefully not though!) This waiting is torture! Thought I was having 'symptoms' but they've all gone now so it was prob all in my head.

God luck to everyone waiting to test, babydust for all!

Hello! Can join in?

TTC#1
Cycle 2
UCL 27
CD 25

I too have been keeping up the share price of various pharmaceutical companies!
Am using the first response ovulation predictor kits, then the early pregancy tests! I have been testing (negative) every day for the past 5 days, but I ovulate late in my cycle so I am hoping this month is still a possibilty - probably kidding myself though. Period due on Tuesday so I will know soon in any event.

I have two particular points of note about this TTC business -

I wonder if anyone else is thinking the same things -

  1. What a total farce all of those years of obsessing about contraception seems in retrospect, when you can wee on a stick that tells you exactly when you are ovulating, have lots of sex at exactly the right time of the month, lie with your feet in the air afterwards, and still not get pregnant!!
  2. How unbelievably all consuming attempting to get pregnant is, so that it is very difficult not to obsess about it all the time!!

Anyway,

Good luck to everyone else this month.

Addie x

PS - re grapefruit juice - this is my favourite drink and I get through litres of it every week, I am not convinced it has the effect that it is meant to!

Kaloki · 08/11/2009 14:42

I was thinking that addie, it's sod's law in effect there. If you didn't want to get pregnant, you could guarantee you would lol

rollerbaby · 08/11/2009 16:24

thanks ladies... is nice to have a bit of a moan!

YorkshireTeaDrinker know what you mean about AF gloom - CD20 seems bloody ages away. DH was as disappointed as me I think, but we are both being silly as it would have been bloody amazing if we'd managed it in one month (like a friend of mine did!).

I'm going to start doing the FF temperature taking this week... no idea if it will help me identify ov, but it feels right to be doing something positive in our quest. Any tips?

I think I am also going to try and cut out the booze completely and be a bit healthier in general. Not sure if DH is going to be up for that!

Hope everyone has had a good weekend...

addie81 · 08/11/2009 16:26

I know - it totally is sods law. One of my friends conceived her son (by accident) three days after her period ended. Now that i spend so much time reading up on this stuff i can hardly even believe that is possible, but she is adamant!
Obsessing about it so much can't be good for one's chances though - a watched pot never boils after all!

rollerbaby · 08/11/2009 17:45

DH says we all need to stop pot watching. I say Mumsnet wouldn't exist if we did!!

Have a friend who has been trying for two and a half years and still no idea why it isnt happening. Scares the life out of me.

addie81 · 08/11/2009 18:54

On the one hand, it makes me think that MN-ing just makes it all worse, because it indulges my obsession, but on the other hand it is so helpful to know that other people are having the same experiences that we are, particularly since I haven't told any of my friends we are trying, so can't really speak to them about it.

rollerbaby · 08/11/2009 19:20

Agree completely. As a reasonably intelligent 33 year old, I thought there were few things I had to learn about how my body operated. How wrong can you be? The things I now know about CM! DH refuses to hear me talk about egg white... I just do it to wind him up now.

Conception just isn't very sexy really. I think I wore him out by CD20 this month, so when I was actually ovulating the poor man had had enough! What larks.

claireinthecommunity · 08/11/2009 19:36

Wow, it's been busy on here! Just thought I'd pop on and check how you are all doing.

Congratulations Spirael, that's wonderful news.

Ozziegirly · 08/11/2009 23:19

Spirael that is wonderful news! Hooray for your BFP.

No news from me yet - still one week to go. No symptoms apart from a seeminly constant vague "not quite a pain" feeling slightly like period pains but not really. Hard to pin down exactly what I mean but I don't think it's implantation as it's been going on since the end of last week.

Spirael · 09/11/2009 09:07

Morning all and thanks for all the kind words.

I looked at my temp/CM charts again over the weekend and reached the conclusion that I have no idea what happened when. I'm guessing I must be over 7 dpo too, in order to get a really early (5 days before AF due!) test return so fast and so strong. Though DH keeps wandering around saying Twins at me. I might throttle him later...

Not much in the way of symptoms. Over the weekend I've noticed my chest is a bit tender and I seem to be getting tired a touch earlier in the evenings, but it's nothing I wouldn't usually ignore. Though I'm constantly prodding at my chest now, to make sure it does still hurt a bit. I'm frightened it'll just disappear, like it did last time!

Aside from making sure I definitely take the folic acid and don't have anything naughty on the food front, I think I'm going to try and ignore the whole situation until next weekend. If AF hasn't shown up by then, I might risk another HPT to make sure before I start letting myself get excited. I actually do have a ClearBlue digital at home, I might try using it then to give me a better idea of timings.

Sympathies to those who've had AF show up. Keep trying, hopefully next cycle will be the one! Good luck to everyone testing soon, hopefully there'll be more November BFPs shortly.

kkas · 09/11/2009 09:41

congrats spirael so happy for you!!!!

and welcome to the newbies. sounds like you're TTC kindred spirits just like the rest of us

no BD for us over the weekend - DH was just not in the mood with the in-laws around. but they left this morning and I still haven't noticed a temp increase and am still a bit watery down there, so hopefully if we get started tonight, maybe i'll be in with a chance. we also booked a holiday over the weekend for a week in marrakesh the last week in february. although hopefully being pg shouldn't mess up those plans too much, i'm really hoping that booking the holiday will do the trick, as it has worked for some others on this thread in the past!

Hi all, not been on over the weekend and have just been reading through all I've missed (a lot!)

Wow, Spireal! Some weekend for you, from asking about grapefruit and vitamins, to not wanting to look at pictures of your friend's baby to a BFP! Congratulations! Does just go to show how little we can tell about our bodies, doesn't it?! Maybe we shouldn't obsess so much... I know that I, for one, definitely still will though! So have you told anyone yet, other than all of us on here?

Kaloki - welcome! I only joined myself last week and am already a bit addicted! It is good to get advice from others though, and know you're not alone in your paranoia!

Honeymoo - sorry to hear AF got you. Sounded so positive too.

Aly - poor you, obsessing over your charts all weekend! All I have is a little diary with a few notes in and DH has already threatened to hide that on me! Dread to think what I'd be like if I was checking temperatures, etc., as well! Bet I'd be completely unbearable to live with!

About the progesterone cream... Personally I tend not to put anything into my body that I think I can possibly do without, just in case. But then each to their own and I don't really know anything about the stuff!

Yorkshire - you and I seem to be at roughly the same stages of our cycles... Here's hoping this is our lucky month, eh? I'm sure we'll be obsessing together anyway in a week or two!

Welcome NovemberAli.

Chalky - here's hoping for you!

Hi Addie. You're spot on! We were so careful about contraception ourselves! And I cannot believe how all-consuming it is ttc! Seem to think about and talk about nothing else!

Honeymoo - your DH sounds so laidback! Having said that, it's the daft kind of thing my DH might come out with too - knowing fine well he's as almost as bad as me himself!

Hi Claire - nice to "meet" you.

Ozzie - you never know! Will keep my fingers crossed for you!

Aly - I hadn't realised your AF was overdue..? Have you tested yet?!

Updated the list for today, hopefully correctly!

Sorry, Kkas, you hadn't posted your list yet when I started posting mine!

DH and I actually had a really nice weekend and after AF went away on Saturday, we got round to BDing twice. Felt bad about dreading it before because it was actually very nice. But wait a few more days and I'm sure we'll be knackered again! Just wish my cycle was a bit more regular so I could predict ovulation a bit better! Oh well... As Spireal has proved, we're not really able to predict anything anyway, are we?!

CJ2007 · 09/11/2009 10:44

Hey all and a big welcome to the newbies! We've got a good group going on!!! Massive congrats to spirael, what wonderful news!!
Sorry I haven't been around much of late, I would update the list but only able to use my phone at the mo. I'm currently cd19 and feeling strangely positive this month... Time will tell though!!! 2ww here we go!!
Fingers crossed for those approaching testing time, hopefully well have a run of bfp's on here. No better Christmas pressie!!! xxx

I ov'd on Day 14 according to temps, so on track for a 28-day cycle. Just two more days' wait for period, then I might test...

Luck to all

vix206 · 09/11/2009 13:15

Hello, I'm brand new I have been a lurker for a week or so but finally plucked up the courage to join this morning. Even hopped aboard the July bus although I think I might have been missed as I'm not on the new list

Loads of symptoms, worst one is backache - but very tired and for the first time today nauseous as well... also cannot stop sneezing its getting ridiculous!!

Anyway, my stats are TTC#1 UCL 27 CD21.

Looking forward to being an active member of mumsnet!!

sevans · 09/11/2009 15:41

Hey Curly, glad you figured out your ovulation date with all the temps we have been discussing! Not much time left to test, huh? Good luck!

I had a dream last night that I had a baby girl. I don't remember going through the labor...I just remember walking through the doors and there she was in the hospital room waiting for me. She was beautiful! After that I remember laying in the hospital bed. Weird!

I bought some dollar store cheapies this weekend. I will admit I did a test Saturday afternoon (so not first morning urine) and got a BFN. I was trying to hold out until Tuesday morning to test but caved. I am not completely gutted since AF has yet to arrive. I will follow my initial plan and do a test tomorrow morning.
