Hey ladies! Drama over - I snapped myself out of it haha! Sorry for my emotional outburst, I know you're all going through it as well - the last thing you need is someone else stressing about their problems!!!

I saw the consultant on Monday and it turns out that I've still not been ovulating on the 50mg Clomid, so he's increased it to 100mg. I've taken the first lot today so we'll see how we get on with the side effects. The headaches have started to kick in already! Interestingly, he said that if your cycle goes past 30 days on the Clomid then you've not ovulated (or you're pregnant, of course!). What are your thoughts on that?

I'm going to have a day 21 blood test and then go back to him after that to see if I ovulated. He said that if the 100mg don't work then we'll move onto IVF .

popsy1 - I am obsessed with TTC as well, and yes my diary is full of fertile dates, etc! Although I have been told that obsessing about it isn't good as it could have an effect on you conceiving. So, I'm trying desperately to relax about it all now, and have reflexology and 'chill-out' time. The worst time for me is the lead up to AF - THAT's when I can't stop thinking about it! With regards to the side effects - I had them pretty much all through my first cycle on the Clomid, but then I had none on the 2nd cycle - maybe your body just gets used to it?

stac14 - how are you getting on hun? xx

stac14 · 16/09/2009 14:52

Hey ladies

lilew I think he's right most cycles longer than 35 days mean you haven't ov'd or are pg which is quite common with women with pcos, I am 8 days late but bfn yesterday, had gathered I wasn't pg as af was induced by the echovist scan. A wee tip I was given was to take clomid before you fall asleep as it lessens the side effects, I had far less that way.

popsy I was totally like that when I was taking clomid but as I have just started the metformin I am having a well deserved break from counting lol. I used online clomid fertility calculators and everything the things we do to get pg. You can also buy self hypnosis cd's online from a company trying to assist women through this when I find the details I will pass them on

Well as I said got bfn yesterday so felt rotten but feeling much better today as went for some retail therapy (always a life saver if af appears or get bfn lol)

Hope everyones good xxx

Lilew,

Re your comment:-

"I'm going to have a day 21 blood test and then go back to him after that to see if I ovulated. He said that if the 100mg don't work then we'll move onto IVF".

Not surprised you were , I felt that as well when reading this.

Why has he suggested IVF, do you actually have a diagnosis. Common causes of ovulatory issues to name but two are PCOS and thyroid problems. Have both of these really been checked for?.

I would actually be looking into getting a second opinion as going straight from clomid to IVF is a hell of a leap and there are other treatments that can be tried. I would certainly be asking him why IVF was suggested.

Has your man been tested within the last six months; both you and he should have up to date test results. What tests have been done to date?.

LiLew · 18/09/2009 10:42

Thanks for the tip stac14! Boo to the bfn! I feel for you - this is the worst time - just waiting . Keep your chin up!

xkelly1x - sounds like you're going through it as well! Have you plucked up the courage to do a hpt yet?

Thanks for the advice Attila - I have no idea about any of this! I was really shocked when he said that, as I just assumed that they would try all sorts of things and that IVF was a last resort. I've had a Hycosy scan which showed up all normal - does that test anything other than blocked tubes? I also had a blood test a long time ago which I can't remember what that tested for - it was done at the beginning of one of my cylces. That all came back OK too.

What tests do they do to see if you have pcos or thyroid?

xxx

xkelly1x · 18/09/2009 13:35

hi LiLew no not yet AF still wasnt ere yesterday AM but we got abit carried away with ourselves last night n started to bleed quiet light straight after n been up all night with cramping all on the right side i know i have a weak cervix so going to GP today just incase its not AF becuase due to take my 3rd round of clomid tonight im so stressed with it all x

stac14 · 18/09/2009 14:48

Hey lilew I got bloods done for my thyroid (which I have and underactive) Then bloods on during my cycle to check my levels for pcos and then I was sent for an internal scan which showed I had cysts on my ovaries. Following the clomid not working I was sent for an echovist scan which is done to ensure there are no blockages in your tubes (luckily I had none) but as I have ds already I am not entitled to anymore treatment to assist conception, but I asked cons for metformin as it is used for pcos so he agreed to that and 6 more goes of clomid. Also dp got sperm checked twice and all is fine with him. You should query going straight to ivf as my cons said just cos I have pcos doesnt mean I am totally infertile just means I have to work harder. lol (soz for long post)

Hey kelly have you tried calling your cons? sound like it may just be af though hun the clomid can make it very light, mine varied throughout the time I was on it. Try not to get too disheartened. Are you getting bloods or scans monitored to see if your ovulating? xx

LiLew · 18/09/2009 15:59

Thanks for that stac14. I'll check with my cons when I see him that all of those other tests have been done. It just seems that my body is just refusing to ovulate, even on the Clomid . Maybe the double-dosage will sort it out and then I won't need to even think about IVF!

Hey xkelly1x - sounds like it might be AF hun . I had a lot of cramping on my first round of Clomid. Sounds like we're quite close together here - I'm on day 3 of my 3rd round. Let us know what your GP says!

popsy1 · 19/09/2009 21:49

Thanks for tip stac14 about clomid ovualtion calendar, didnt think of that one!!

My dh keeps telling me to relax but its easier said than done. I know i need to as it affects chances of ttc. I'm on cd14, and have an appointment with consultant in 2 weeks. What is metformin? Not sure if con will switch medication as this will be 12months on clomid over 2 times of taking it.
xx

stac14 · 20/09/2009 22:15

hey popsy Metformin is a drug used to treat diabetes but has proved to assist women with pcos to ovulate and take regular periods. I was on the clomid for 6 months and only ov'd once so my consultant agreed to let me try both together. So hopefully this will work.

How are the rest of you ladies? My af has been very painful but at least I know the metformin is working xxxx

tembie6699 · 21/09/2009 22:19

Hi All

I have just finished my Utovlan to stop some none stop bleeding that i was having docs couldnt figure out the cause - i have unexplained infertility from my own personal diag as docs havent said anything formally but just blame my weight for not getting preg - there is soo much pressure for me and i want a child so badly - i wish i had known earlier how hard this journey would be i would have started ages ago have just turned 27 - I am now on my period (extremely painful and heavy ) and hoping to start my 1st cycle of Clomid on Day 5 - am really hoping for nothing but the best and keeping my fingers and toes crossed - my lovely hubby really wants this but being an african man fails to understand the difficulties sometimnes faced to make matters worse everyone around keeps getting pregnant - am tired of holding other peoples babies and am tired of constantly hearing about people getting pregnant by mistake - when will my turn come ......this is it for me ....after a year plus of trying there this is the last stop and i dont know if my relationship can even survive if Clomid fails .......wish me luck and good luck to all who are trying like me xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

LiLew · 22/09/2009 11:19

Hi tembie! Sounds like you're feeling very low at the moment hun - you've come to the right place though! Lots of the girls on here are in a similar situation to you, and I've found it really helps to just let it all out on this forum and speak to others that are going through the same thing and can give you advice and support.

The good news is that there is still hope for you. You say you've only been trying for a year, and you're only 27 so you've got time on your side. See how you go on the Clomid - you never know, that might do it for you! I've read a few clomid success stories, and they're from people who have been trying for 2/3 + years.

I know it's easier said than done, but also try not to stress about it so much as that definitely affects things. I was feeling very much like you a few months ago, but I'm working on chilling out a bit more now! Try reflexology - that's meant to be very good for infertility, and it's also very relaxing which is a bonus. Just try and relax and stay calm. Also, don't expect to get pregnant on your first round of Clomid - it might take a few goes for your body to get used to it. I'm on my 3rd round now (CD8), and the consultant just doubled the dosage to 100mg as the 50mg still weren't making me ovulate.

Anyway, I've gone on for far too long! Keep your chin up hun - your time will come xxx

Littlemissmischief · 22/09/2009 18:26

Hi,
Ive jumped over here from the other Clomid thread as it seems that most people are over here.

Im ttc #2 for about 2 years now and saw the specialist a couple of weeks ago, who gave me clomid and thinks it will be all we need (hopefully) because DH is fine and im ok apart from the fact i have irregular periods and dont seem to ovulate much.

Started the clomid on Sunday, and having some not very nice side-affects, headaches, feeling sick and hot flushes! But praying it will all be worth it. Had some bloods done today to find out what my hormones are up to and why im irregular and then having bloods on CD21 to see if Ive ovulated.

Anyway, looking forward to talking to people with similar stories x

sevans · 22/09/2009 18:49

Hi ladies! I was wondering if I could join this thread. I have pcos and have been ttc for about three months now. AF has not visited once since I have been off the pill and I am now on CD89. Who knows if I even ovulated? I have had some brown spotting here and there throughout this cycle which I thought was strange. Currently I have been spotting for the last 7 days.

Anyway, I am going to see my reproductive endocrinologist. She wanted me to come see her if after three months of trying I am not pregnant and did not get regular periods. My appointment is next Tuesday. I'm guessing the next step is Clomid so that is why I wanted to join this thread. I'm really anxious to hear what my doctor says.

Littlemissmischief · 22/09/2009 19:40

Ohh had some Qs i wondered if anoyne could answer..

  1. can you take pg vitamin supplements whilst on Clomid?
  1. It took 6 weeks to get a BFP with my DS is it likely this will be the case again?

Thanks x

tembie6699 · 22/09/2009 21:33

LiLew - thank you sooo much for the words of encouragement - I feel much better xx - 1 day to start my Clomid - am keeping an open mind and we are just praying about it - i find it fascinating that just when we decided to start trying thats when everything started going the opposite direction - otherwise when we are trying not to get get pregnant all was normal and i was one of the girls that used to be grateful when my period came -lol well like I say God's timing is the best. Will continue to keep you posted on my progress if any !! and am sprinkling a little baby magic to all yall ...xxxxxx

stac14 · 22/09/2009 22:00

Hey littlemischief you can take pg vitamins with clomid, with regards to your 2nd question each pregancy is different, do you take af without help? I only ask as sometimes I have to take provera to induce mine which obviously gets your hopes up lol

Welcome to the thread tembie and sevans

From what your saying sevans its unlikely you have ov'd during this time as unless your pg you would take period following ovulation. Your right clomid will probably be your next step, but you may also be offered metformin which assists ovulation and other symptoms related to pcos, I am currently on this and clomid. Good luck wiht it all

tembie lilew is right you have lots more options and time even if clomid is not the answer for you. I am 30 and have been ttc for 18 months clomid alone hasnt worked for me so I am trying it in combination with metformin. I know its hard but try to keep positive and relax as much as possible, they say that putting too much stress on yourself can stop you concieving (easier said than done lol)

hey lilew how are you? all good I hope, hows everyone else? xxx

Littlemissmischief · 23/09/2009 13:35

Thanks Stac will start taking them from today then cos every little bit helps hey? did you mean do I get an af without help? If so then yes I do but they can be from 28 days to 6 months apart so very irregular, have been induced once a few months ago because i was feeling horrible where i had not had one for so long. I hope i ger a BFP sooner this time (well I just hope to get one at all!) but i think the suspense will kill me if not!

Welcome to tembie and sevans - good luck!

Babydust for everyone ***

popsy1 · 23/09/2009 18:20

Hi all hope you are ok.
Just a quick question, I'm now on CD18 and feeling very tired, nauseaous and having tummy cramps, are these normal side effects with clomid at this stage of the cycle?
Would love some feedback ladies.
xx

stac14 · 23/09/2009 21:38

Hey popsy that sounds about right for the clomid hun its kind of up and down most of the time, it will settle down after a few cycles xx

popsy1 · 24/09/2009 18:52

This is my third cycle. Was kinda hoping it was going to work this time round. Wishful thinking maybe xx

Littlemissmischief · 25/09/2009 09:35

Hey Popsy dont give up hope yet

I finished my first course of Clomid yesterday o the BD will begin tomorrow! Trying not to get my hopes up too much as I dont want to be disappointed but want to try and keep positive too.

I have another Q, do you continue to have side affects through the month or just when you take the Clomid?

Hope everyone else is doing ok x

stac14 · 25/09/2009 14:51

Hey popsy it may be too early to symptom spot as sometimes you ov later on clomid but as lttlemissmischief says dont give up hope, its not over till the witch appears lol

littlemissmischief I think it depends on the person, I got quite weepy through the month following taking clomid so I think the side effects can appear at various times.

Hows everyone else? All good I hope
My af is still here had to go to docs as it was really heavy, he gave me tablets for the pain and to try to stop the bleeding, nine days long at the mo last one was a fortnight so hoping it stops soon xxxx

sevans · 25/09/2009 15:11

Oh no stac, I'm sorry to hear about your long and painful AF. I hope it stops soon, poor thing.

I'm doing well. Just anticipating my doctor's visit on Tuesday.

popsy1 · 25/09/2009 17:04

Hi ladies.
the side effects are so similiar to being pg its frustrating. Now on cd20, so its the waiting game now!!
littlemissmischief i never had side effects with 50mg but seem to have loads with 100mg from about cd12 onwards, think this is why dh and i were convinced we were going to get a bfp, unfortunatly not .

Good luch at docs on Tuesday sevans.

xx
