Is clomid the same as Clomiphene??

Pinkali37 · 23/12/2009 13:27

Hello

Yes Clomid is the same as Clomiphene.

Popsy had been skiing in Chamonix. It was very cold but they cope so much better with it over there. Sorry that your AF came, i really thought it could be your month. What does the Metformin do???????

I am on CD21 and think i have messed up this month. Got discharge (TMI) with a bit of old blood in it on cd12 but then cd18 i also had discharge but didn't bed until cd19 and cd20 so don't think i've done it properly. I'm so upset and cross with myself. I just always feel that DH is too tired when it is actually the time we should be doing it! Not sure if it is ever going to work again But like someone else said i'm going to try and really enjoy christmas this year.

Hi pink its a drug predominantly used for diabetics, for me it helped me loose weight and regulated my af which hadnt happened in such a long time. It's not licensed for people with pcos but it does have a proven track record for helping with the condition. The problems is a lot of women with pcos are insulin resitant (even if it doesnt show up in bloods) the metformin helps with this. It also encourages ovulation. This is the drug I was taking when I fell pregnant so obviously I cant praise it enough. The only thing is the side effects are sickness and the runs but if you increase your dose gradually this is kept to a minimum. I started on 500mg for the first week until I was up to 1500mg, then when af never came in october I was increased to 2750mg but I didnt increase that gradually and really suffered lol. So the idea is if you take it with clomid it will double your chances, I dont know why if I am honest. Hope this helps a but, not sure if I am just waffling on.

I'm sorry for being so quiet lately. So much has been going on...the miscarriage, busy at work, Christmas, etc. Can you still believe I am going through this miscarriage? This Saturday will be four weeks since the bleeding and cramping started. I got the option of a D&C a couple of weeks ago but I really wanted to try and get through this naturally as I wasn't too far when the miscarriage happened and I didn't think there was much there to get out. I've had three ultrasounds and none of them have really showed a whole bunch of stuff in there so it seemed best to just go naturally. The pain has been unbearable but luckily I have had vicodin the past two weeks to help as well as an antibiotic to prevent infection. My hcg levels kept rising for the most part but in the last week they started going down but not by a lot. They were in the 2200 range as of yesterday. The bleeding increased yesterday so I am really hoping this is it. I am to do more blood work next Monday and then we will make a decision about the D&C. I may have to end up doing it if my levels don't significantly drop this week. This whole thing has been absolutely miserable and taken more of a toll on me physically than I ever imagined. Almost everyday I have felt sick either from cramping or just sick to my stomach or weak. I really hope to never have to go through this again.

I hope all is well for you girls. Good luck with TTC and hopefully I can join you all again soon.

stac how is the pregnany coming along? I hope everything is going well for you!

Pinkali37 · 24/12/2009 09:27

Stac Ah ha... i was wondering what it was for, thank you for explaining it to me. So i wouldn't get it as i am not diabetic or overweight, nor do i have PCOS my insides are just blinking stupid and unfair! Oh but i do have endo!!!

Sevans my MC went on the for quite some time and from the sounds of it i think you would benefit from the D&C.

My philosophy this month is lets have as good a christmas as we can possibly have! We deserve it... Life is difficult for us all at times but i think we need togive ourselves a break and enjoy the family we have around us and look at 2010 as being the year of procreation! xxx

stac14 · 24/12/2009 10:38

sevans i'm so sorry to hear your having such a bad time of it, sending lots of virtual hugs. Hope you can manage to have a good xmas huni.
pink i'm not sure if you would get it for endo, it seems to be more for pcos sufferers but you dont need to be diabetic or overweight. You could ask the cons when you go. Think you are doing the right thing by enjoying crimbo, the worse thing about ttc is the constant pressure we put on ourselves.
Hope you all have a fab xmas. Sending lots of baby dust your way xxx

popsy1 · 24/12/2009 16:43

Lovely to hear from you sevans. Things must be hard for you all. You cant even move on as its lasting for so long. I hope they sort it all out for you at your appointment. Huge MN hugs coming your way hun.
The registra was very reluctant to prescribe metformin for me as she said she didn't believe it worked. However she phoned my consultant and she believes in metformin!!
stac i'm on 500mg 3x a day. I've had a dodgy tummy and sickness, but i'm also exhausted, to the point where i'm needing to have a nap. Did you have this aswell? I'm hoping this will wear off as when i'm back to school i cant keep running to the loo or have a nap!!!

Wishing everyone a great christmas and hoping next year is kind to us all.

xxxx

stac14 · 24/12/2009 17:16

popsy my cons told me they weren't giving me anymore fertility treatment on the nhs but I pointed out metformin is not just given for fertility but also for the symptoms of pcos, then I harrassed my gp for the prescription lol. I was advised to start off with 500mg per day for one week then up to 100mg per day for a week then 1500mg which lessened the side effects, you will feel tired for a while hun (bout a week) but it does go away as your body gets used to the metformin.

Hope everyone has a fab christmas and you all get your very special gift you all so deserve xxx

popsy1 · 27/12/2009 16:41

Hello ladies. Have you all had a lovely christmas? Did you all get lots of lovely pressies and those that can, enjoy a festive drink or 2?

Christmas here was lovely. We had my mum and dad here which was just how i wanted it this year. My Ds still gets so excited, its lovely.

Where are we all in our cycles? I'm on cd11, i think! They have decided to scan me again this month, so i had my first scan last Wednesday and my next one is this Tuesday.

Anyone doing anything nice for new year?

xxx

Jojo1984b · 29/12/2009 12:49

Hello all. Hope you all had a nice christmas.

AF got me last night really p**d off now as i have just phoned my clinic and they can fit me in to have my tubes scanned until the 14th Jan! So they have told me not to try before then so thats another month out the window.

Part of me sort of hopes that they are blocked cos at least it would explain why ive not conceived yet. Although it would mean surgery to clear them

How has everyone else been? xxxxx

stac14 · 29/12/2009 15:41

jojo I had that done in June, sometimes they say it can help you and I took af straight after it without any meds, they were also regular every month after that till last af in september. I was terrified that mine were blocked luckily they weren't. Also just think even though you cant take clomid just now its only a few weeks and you will be back on the clomid train, maybe even with a clearer path. I know its hard hun but try and stay positive, I had pretty much given up hope when I conceived so it can happen xx

hows everyone else??

Jojo1984b · 29/12/2009 21:35

thanks stac thats made me feel a bit better. Does it hurt? She told me to take some paracetamol an hour before and to bring my partner with me cos i wont be able to drive home.

Im also starting slimming world next week, im only a little overweight and i just thought it might help if im forced to eat healthy and also feel a bit better in myself.

How are you feeling anyway? it must be such an exciting time for you, i really cant wait! xx

popsy1 · 29/12/2009 21:39

Sorry Af arrived jojo. It always puts a real downer on things. I had my tubes done in May. I felt a little like you, a month wasted as we couldn't bd that month. They did say that as the tubes are now clear it sometimes increases the chances of conception . Fingers crossed it'll be helpful for you hun !
Hope everyone else is ok
xx

stac14 · 30/12/2009 00:44

jojo i took cocodamol half hour before the proceedure. Its uncomfortable when they put the dye in but i found the cramping worse later on. Also wear a sanitary towel as you probs will bleed and the dye comes back out. But defo worth it. You will be fine, its not a great proceedure but bearable and worth it.
I'm good at the mo thanks nearly 12wks bit nervous something will go wrong but think thats normal.

Hey popsy saw you had scan is 13mm good? I never got scanned so dont understand the measurements lol xx

Pinkali37 · 30/12/2009 08:09

Hi All,

Sorry jojo that AF came. I'm expecting mine on Sunday CD32 as i know we missed the time to bd this month which makes me so cross!!!

Christmas here was great. DD got spolit rotten and i had all the family round asking if was goign to have another... jeeeeeeze don't they realise how difficult DD was for me to get. I keep telling them all that i'm just going to spoil her (that way it gets them off my back).

Hope everyone is ok. x

TTTrouble · 30/12/2009 09:44

Hello,

A success story for you:

I tried for 2 years to get PG (I started in 2006) I had a m/c after one year and then eventually in 2007 I was put on Clomid following a laparoscopy.

I conceived in July 2007 on my second cycle of clomid and have a very healthy 20mth old boy.

Pinkali37 · 06/01/2010 11:09

Hello Stac..

Ooh let me (us all) know how you get on. It is such an exciting time for you.

Well since having DD my cycles have been 32 days but that was Sunday and since then i have had 2 negatives. i didn't think i had ovulated so i suppose this is just proving it. I'm trying to stay positive but it is very difficult. Am thinking of trying acupuncture again this month. Did it the month i conceived first time.
