Ladies advice please? What day do I start weeing on an OPK then?

Joolsiam · 03/06/2009 10:33

Well recurrent mc clinic is on antenatal ward as is epu. I am surrounded by happy bumps and unhappy worried mc people horrid.

4everhopeful · 03/06/2009 10:48

Aw crap Jools.. Ours is the same, right next to ante natal & EPU. In fact you have to 'check in' for ERPCs there too which is just awful watching big bumped smiley women in & out of appts, then sit & wait there watching them for for 2hrs+ before they take you to day surgery unit in another building. Some people have no commen sense do they?

Apart from the very bad geographics - how did it go?

4everhopeful · 03/06/2009 10:49

Ahh just realised your on your phone arent you? Keep us posted... Have a HUG of strength.. xx

VJaybigpants · 03/06/2009 11:00

Awww that's crap jools
4ever I think you start peeing on the opks on day 9 or 10 of your cycle.

mermaidspurse · 03/06/2009 11:13

morning all
jools feeling for you - and your poor
tummy, so sorry black basque op was posponed.
They should take bloods today and they will get the ball rolling for you - a girl needs a PLAN.

4ever why whenever I think of you and an opk does a picture of Henry the hoover springs to mind

If I were you I would start practising with them cos its fun being a scientist and they are cheap. Instrucions say leave to get to room temp but I have experimented and don't think it makes a huge difference.

vjay hope you ae ok in this heat, it is meant to be getting cooler come the weekend.

I guess I am nearly on the 2ww terrified of raising expectations but well you all know how it usually goes in a 2ww!

VJaybigpants · 03/06/2009 11:25

Oooh mermaid the 2ww, I'm excited for you It's cooled down up here now, thank goodness, I was beginning to suffer. Today I am starting to de-clutter, I've not got far though

mermaidspurse · 03/06/2009 11:27

thats boring go sit in the garden with a mini milk

Neeko · 03/06/2009 11:37

Hi all.

Jools Clearly the someone who designed that system has never had a m/c Stay strong and think of the good these tests could bring.

4ever I'd start now if I were you. Best not to miss it.

Vjay do you ever miss POAS? [Grin]

mermaid do you temp? I thought I'd have a rise today but didn't. Have my fingers crossed for tomorrow though.

Iggy I did worry abour smothering my DD with mine while BF and when pg they grew faster than my bump until the 3rd trimester

cupcake Lol at your DH getting excited by cleavage!

Barbie How's the new job? any sign of TEW?

Curly are you still hanging in there?

MLS, Moon and Gracie Hope you're doing ok today.

Hi to everyone else.

cupcakefairy · 03/06/2009 12:21

I really REALLY want a mini milk now!!
There is a co-op just down the road from my office vjay, maybe I should go and stock up
I used to babysit a 2 yr old girl who was obsessed with them.. after one she would just stand by the freezer and scream for another.. I had to distract her with a Tweenies video... oh the joys I have to come!

Neeko hope you do get your rise! Mine went up a little more today... I'm sure it is absolutely nothing to do with the weather and everything to do with a little bean!

Curlywurleelittlepants · 03/06/2009 12:43

Helloo everyone.

I'm trying to be good today and do my study but am failing miserably so can resist MN no longer.

iggy and 4ever which opks did you get? there are ones like preggy tests that you pee on a stick. And then others where you have to get a jar of pee and let it go to room temperature and then stick the strip in...yuck. I went for the POAS variety

I really am new to the OPK game and I'm sure our white-coated ladies will know more but the basics I have picked up are as follows:

  1. Start from about day 9 if you have a 28 day cycle or longer. Shorter than that I would start day 7 or 8.
  1. Pee should be concentrated, so try not to drink or pee for a couple of hours beforehand (yeah right!)
  1. 2pm is the best time, but any time between 10am and 6pm seems fine too. LH doesn't build up in your system till after 10am
  1. A faint line means nothing though it may get stronger around ovulation. It needs to be stronger than the control line for it to actually mean ovulation. Then you need to DO THE DO within 12 - 36 hours. According to the Deanna plan, you should BD from day 10 every two days, then once you get the strong line, BD every night for three nights, then a couple of days after that. PHEW, exhausted already

Jools I'm so sorry you have to relive the EPU experience. I remember going back a week after my ERPC and seeing all these people that were me, only three weeks earlier. Hope you get your answers honey xxx

Mermaid tut tut at you trying to corrupt VJ and distract her from her chores, my mum's not going to let me hang out with you any more if you continue to be this bad influence And no, I still haven't done a test Very excited for you on the two week wait though honey

Neeko what does the rise in temperature mean? Are you waiting to ovulate or would it be a sign of pregnancy?

cupcake when is AF due? Love the deluded emoticon. I need one of those Fingers crossed for you!!!

Curlywurleelittlepants · 03/06/2009 12:46

Forgot to wave to VJ

and also forgot to say that with the Deanna plan, I think that you should BD before Day 10 to make sure you clear out his stale swimmers... nice

MummyLovesSadie · 03/06/2009 12:51

Hello all, will try not to breathe on you as illness has gone from a cold to sticky-out glands, pounding head & everything from my eyeballs to my toenails aching . Soooo just a quicky from me for now.

That bloody spider is still in my sink, looking even more shriveled & evil so 4ever I might have to get you round! It depends on your cycle length as to when you start using opk's. If you have a 28 day cycle I think you start testing on day 11, but there should be a leaflet that tells you that comes with the tests.

Right off to have a little sleep now while dd naps. Will post properly later.

Curlywurleelittlepants · 03/06/2009 12:56

MLS hope you feel better soon xxx

4everhopeful · 03/06/2009 13:03

Thanks ladies for the fab advice! Have copied Curlys instructions and am printing them out! I got the POAS type (LOVE that acronym neeko!!!)

BTW - (bouncing with excitement emoticon) that mermaid is on the 2ww!!! YAY!

Hope all is going well for you Jools? xx Get well soon MLS!

Enjoy the mini milks cupcake and vjay! (yummy emoticon)

Neeko · 03/06/2009 13:26

Ok, just did another OPK (because I am addicted) and got the darkest, thickest line ever! MUCH darker than control line so the others that were same colour as control line must have been negative What is my cycle doing to me? I've BD 3 days in a row already and now I'll have to do 3 more! DH will be gutted at this rate if I fall pregnant.
Curly Temp rise that lasts for at least three days means you've ovulated according to Fertility friend (yes, I'm doinfg that too ) but Cupcake and MLS are our experts. I'm just a novice.

If babies were awarded by effort, we'd all be up the duff!

MLS sending you a disinfected hug. Hope you feel better soon. Must be rubbish when you can't even grab some sinutab or a lemsip.

cupcakefairy · 03/06/2009 13:30

Curly the rise in temp means ovulation has happened so if Neeko's OPK positives were genuine ovulation she should get a rise v soon (fngers crossed neeko!)
Your temp rises a bit more and stays high if you are pregnant...which is why I'm willing mine to stay up there
My AF would normally come 10 days from now, day 32...but I have no idea if could be longer as last cycle was my first post-mc and it took 42 days...time will tell!

cupcakefairy · 03/06/2009 13:32

Neeko that really is confusing! But as you say, at least your DH is pleased with all the bd action

Yes, forgot to say sending big get-well hugs to you MLS, not being able to have lemsip max really does suck!

iggypiggy · 03/06/2009 14:14

Just had strawberry mini milk (whole box in freezer you see)

Curly I stupidly got the stick in a pot opks - whihc is why I hate doing it at work! Luckily have own office but have to sneak pot to loo... then sit there is all very tedious! Might buy some others then...

Neeko 3 more days in a row! That is serious action!

MLS hope you better soon

Joolsiam · 03/06/2009 14:29

I have mini Soleros - low cal and low carb

Well, finally got seen just over an hour late - consultant's lackey was nice enough but couldn't spell and didn't have my history, so I had to dictate it all to him and it was painfully slow !!

Basically, they filled up around 8 vials of blood today for various tests. DP and I have to go in for the other chromosomal tests - just gotta phone up the day before and turn up at 8.30.

I have to repeat todays bloods in 6 weeks and I'll get an appt 8 weeks from now to discuss it all. The midwife assistant there was absolutely lovely - she said the second I even think I'm pregnant, to call them and they'll start taking bloods and review all tests that are back to put together a treatment plan. It basically sounds like my next BFP will immediately go under the care of an EPU and I'll get lots of hand-holding and scans, which is good

Only just back, and have to prepare for a conf call in one hour, so racing off to have some lunch ....

Curlywurleelittlepants · 03/06/2009 14:41

That's great news Jools

mermaidspurse · 03/06/2009 14:57

Thank gooness for the lovely midwife assistant - well done for getting through all that you must feel emotionally drained and well as drained physically. Its nice to know the epus there though isn't it.

oh neeko you are going to be knackered! I now have a really really faint line so I am aybe going to try putting the icing on the cake this evening... dh is complaining that his hips hurt
I do have a temp thing from babymad but have never remembered to use it having a brain of a goldfish esp in the morning.

mls blimey you poor thing lots of fluids lots of rest and hope you feel better.

curly test

Curlywurleelittlepants · 03/06/2009 15:05

BAAADDDDDDDDDDDDDDD Mermaid

4everhopeful · 03/06/2009 15:29

Really pleased you got the ball rolling Jools. Being under the watchful eye of EPU is very reassuring as soon as next pg, have joked with my sonographer she will end up being godmother if we actually make it! Was like deja vous reading your post! Do you have to do bloods on day 2-4 of your next AF?

Mermaid whats happening with your golfer consultant? Go girl with the repetitive bd action! Dont worry about DH hips, you'll soon make him forget! You too Neeko with the lovinaplenty! My turn next week! DH very excited about the Deanna plan & OPKs bless him, he is bursting at the mo cos of AF! Will get rid of the stale ones tomorrow! He reckons we should just do it every morning and every night 'to be sure'!!!!

Neeko · 03/06/2009 15:35

Jools Glad you're feeling more positive and very reassuring to know they will take care of you next time.

Mermaid LOL at DH's hips!

4ever Glad to hear someone else is going to have to BD as much as me!
