I've been doing grapefruit juice for just over a week - will be interested to see if it makes any difference to me

BeckyMcG · 26/08/2008 09:38

Ok ladies, this is my first message on this board but thought I'd contribute as I had a miscarriage last week (at 6 weeks) and this site gave me some support - I felt quite alone really. I have now stopped bleeding and am feeling back to myself again (almost) although of course disappointed. Am wondering how long I should wait to try again - am keen to get started asap really. Of course now I don't know where I am in my cycle so am thinking maybe ovulation sticks might be useful to pinpoint when I'm ovulating. Any thoughts / words of wisdom on any of the above?

SparkyMalarky · 26/08/2008 09:54

Hi Becky - am so sorry to hear about your MC. Quite a few of us here have been there so we know what it's like. And welcome

Did your doctors give you any advice on when to start again? I waited to get AF back - just so I knew things were slightly more back to normal, but the advice seems to vary dramatically!

I've used OPKs this month (didn't both last month, but clearly didn't get PG!) but not sure whether they will work as well if your hormones are still levelling out after the mc... You could try looking out for other signs of ovulation? Nelix is our CM expert which she swears by

makingafamily · 26/08/2008 10:03

Hey ladies

CD14 here and no sign of any +OPK's yet although CB Fertility Monitor is saying High but Not peak. Small amount of CM but as Nelix said maybe thats enough, am gonna pop out in a bit to get some Grapefruit Juice. Nelix is def our CM expert

Hi Becky and Welcome and so sorry about your MC

Good luck ladies for lots of BFP's this month.

Sending lots of yoghurt pots and baby dust all round

BeckyMcG · 26/08/2008 10:10

The nurse said to wait till I'm regular again but the waiting's difficult. Hmm, it's so strange having your life on hold. I've spent my whole life convinced that if I had unprotected sex even once I'd end up pregnant and I now realise how hard this is proving! I just want to feel reassured that I'm ovulating again. Anyway - what's the grapefruit juice significance?? Any other foods I should be eating?

BeckyMcG · 26/08/2008 10:37

Have just read back through whole thread.......v. interesting & amusing! any good news from anyone btw?

nelix2000 · 26/08/2008 11:07

Hi becky sorry about your situation, it cant have been easy....but we all understand the urge to jump right back in! What is a regular period anyway? I have not met any woman who have an exact cycle....they all vary a few days in either direction, being shorter or longer one month to the next. i think your body will tell you when its right for you.... Grapefruit juice is supposed to increase teh amount od CM you get during your cycle, thus makeing FM more visable when you are ready to conceive. Fot me this literally happens for one day in my cycle making it very important for me to watch mince hence the expert status I seem to have acheived lol!
Not sure if there is anything you should be eating, but def cut out caffine (it reduces chances of conception by up to 50% so I have heard) green tea is a good switch!.....and alcohol obviously......anyone else know????

OP posts:
makingafamily · 26/08/2008 11:38

I've been told that low amonuts of caffeine are ok?? ARGHH there is so much conflicting info out there

I guess a healthy diet is one

nelix2000 · 26/08/2008 11:47

I just figure I can sacrifice my morning coffee...though i do have a cup of regular tea in the morning but thats it.....so a v low amount. I just want to eliminate all possible factors I guess.....but there are so many do's and don'ts!!! when I conceived DS i drank coffee ALL the time, so don't know why I am being so pedantict this time round!

OP posts:
makingafamily · 26/08/2008 11:50

I completely understand why everyone cuts everything out and i think that maybe its because i'm a newbie and only on cycle1 that i'm pretty much still just carrying on as normal, glass of wine (or 4) over the bank holiday, coffee in the morning etc. I'm sure after a few 2WW my rather currently relaxed attitude may change lol

nelix2000 · 26/08/2008 13:32

Well this is only cycle 2 for me, I guess I concieved DS 1st time at it and I know how wonderful he is I just can't wait, nor risk not being able to have another one sooner rather than later loL!!!

I've been having a paranoid morning, googling signs of early menopause as I am still waking up in a hot sweat in the middle of the night and having dizziness / blood sugar issues I will be 39 in November and my mother went through "the change" at age 41, so I'm really starting to feel like time is running out.

CD6 today and I've just been told I've got to be away overnight on Thurs, which is the day I though the BD fest needed to start in earnest Oh well, I expect he will be pleased to see me on Friday night

Heebychick · 26/08/2008 13:54

Hi ladies,

This is a great thread! Yes i agree we should do the list as AF due dates, great idea, mine is 10th Sept if you can add me to the list (i must learn how to do a list!)

nelix i thought of you as i supped my large glass of grapefruit juice this morning! i hope it works for me, my OV day should be today or tomorrow (according to my new cycle) so i shall be a busy girl today (DH was too tired last nite despite my nagging - but Sunday morning would hopefully have seen me through to today!)

Welcome becky i'm sorry too about your M/C i had the same in May and wanted to get back planning straight away, which i did but am still waiting, we concieved DD1 in month 1 so assumed it would be easy this time around, no such luck. My friend concieved straight away after an early MC so i think it's all down to whether your body is quick to start OV-ing again. I have been having other problems (possibly a cyst) so that's probably why i haven't got back on track, and my cycles have shortened by a week so that has made a difference.

As for food stuffs, with DC1 i was careful with caffiene (i cut it totally out during the first 12 weeks - being paranoid first time mum to be)and i avoided pate, some fish, raw eggs in anything and alcohol.

x

Heebychick · 26/08/2008 13:56

PS jools could you be suffering from a high temp to do with OV time? i get very hot at some times of the month and wake up needing to stick my head out of the window for air!

Also as for BDing, if you have an 'early night' tonight those little swimmers can hang about for a few days till Friday!

BeckyMcG · 26/08/2008 14:14

I've been pretty much carrying on as normal until now......drinking coffee, alcohol etc but after recent events definitely plan to cut back. I can help but think that things might have been different if I'd been following a healthier lifestyle (but maybe not so am trying not to beat myself up). In fact have just been out to buy some decaf coffee and grapefruit juice now! lol. It's tough though as I don't want to put my whole life on hold and much of my social life revolves around wine I'm ashamed to say!!
Jools - When I realised I would be away at a hen weekend the weekend I was OV'ing last time I set the alarm clock early on the Friday and insisted on nookie before work and then pounced on him when I got back Sunday. Think it worked though as I did fall pregnant. Not sure how long DH will be patient with this though!! Although on a positive note - I think he was heartened that I was even able to fall pregnant in the first place - i.e. everything was in working order!

BeckyMcG · 26/08/2008 14:15

P.s. do you tell your friends you're trying or keep it to yourself? If so how to explain not drinking?

Jools1 · 26/08/2008 14:19

Hi Heebychick

Good thought, but no, this isn't OV time - I am lucky enough to feel when it is happening (often more uncomfortable than AF !!) and it was CD16 last month. I'm only on CD6 at the mo

An attempt at a list - apologies in advance for any omissions or exceptions :

AbstractMouse, CD5 AF due ??
MakingaFamily, CD14, AF due ??

Sparky, AF due 5 Sep
MyLittleBubble, AF due 10th Sept
Heebychick, AF due 10th Sept
Funtime, DTT 13 Sep
Jools1, AF due 17/18 Sept

Heebychick · 26/08/2008 15:34

Great list jools how do we add it to our replies etc? I have the same re OV pain, i used to feel it but the pains have been lasting ages now so am now being sent for a scan to look for possible cyst.

Becky re telling anyone, i told everyone close, i was excited and felt that even if something awful were to happen i would want to involve them anyway so i told them ... BUT when i MC i then wished i'd not told anyone as it was hard to answer the questions. This time only my closest friend knows and my mum, just in case. I guess it's up to you, you could say you have decided to give up alcohol for a fund raiser (give up for a month to raise money?) or to lose weight? i find wine hard too as i work in the industry!!!

Heebychick · 26/08/2008 15:34

Me on a proper thread, I feel a proper sense of belonging now (sobs hormonally into wine glass)!

Hi Becky, sorry to hear about the mc. The explaining not drinking when TTC/newly pregnant is tricky. I've always got away with it because I do all the driving and we're in a fairly rural area, so no other option. Unfortunately, friends and family now know our sorry saga and tactfully don't say anything anymore.

By the way, I meant that AF is due 13th, I've no idea how to change it in the list. Who knows when/whether I'll test. After giving in so pathetically last month I'm determined not to .
