TTC whilst breastfeeding - cycle 4

ThatNimbleOP · 01/01/2025 20:01

Hello,

Is there anyone who’d like to join me…

Currently on cycle 4, CD11. Still breastfeeding my nearly 2 year old and co-sleeping, wondering if it’s having an effect on fertility as we conceived in a blink of an eye the first time…trying not to overthink it all.

Anyone welcome to join, don’t have to be breastfeeding, just any support welcome!

Thought last month was the month but here we are again… :/

@Samsi17so sorry to hear you’ve had this worry and stress. How are you now?

Thank you ❤️
I'm up and down. Feel like I'm struggling at points and had a panic attack yesterday as it all got on top of me a bit. I felt a bit more hopeful as spoke to the nurses yesterday and they said they'd still expect bleeding from the hematoma as it's still on going. It stopped last night then was brown blood for a while so I felt a bit better but then I passed a couple of small clots today, though minimal bleeding again and it's back to brown blood again so I'm all over the place. I feel it can't be good news, but the nurses say it's a good sign I don't have pain but I'm struggling to stay optimistic. Sorry this is a bit of a brain dump... they've booked me in for a scan Friday 9am.

january1244 · 30/04/2025 10:57

I hate that about pregnancy that so much is just wait and see, and there’s nothing you can do to control things. Hope you’re okay and the bleeding has stopped today. Plan lots of nice treats to take care of yourself and take your mind off it.

Ive had a haematoma before and I had spotting on and off until the placenta formed at 9ish weeks, and found each incidence of it so scary

Thank you for your message ❤️ The bleeding has stopped today, it's more like the end of a period but I'm sure I've lost it. With bleeding for 5 days and passing a couple of clots yesterday I just think it must be done. I'm just trying my best to prepare myself and work out what questions to ask at the hospital. I just don't feel pregnant anymore apart from being extremely bloated still.

Samsi17 · 03/05/2025 07:58

Hi
Just an update... I had a confirmed early loss yesterday morning unfortunately 😔it seems to have happened naturally so at least don't need any medical intervention...
Crazy maybe but I'm thinking of ttc asap though they recommend waiting until my period resumes but doesn't seem to be any medical reasons around that.

january1244 · 05/05/2025 08:04

@Samsi17ohh I’m really sorry to hear this, sending hugs x Hope you’re doing okay and being well looked after.

I wanted to do the same after my miscarriage, but was told it can be better to wait until after the next period, not just for dating but also so the endometrial lining can thicken to support the next pregnancy. I’m not sure how true this is, I was just questioning whether I should try again asap (as just really wanted to be pregnant again as quickly as possible)

Thank you. I'm up and down, it's tricky with a 15 month old also...
I questioned her extensively on this! She said repeatedly there is no medical reasons which I've been searching and seems to marry up. I just got a negative pregnancy test today, I thought it would be quite quickly returning to normal so going to try and start tracking ovulation again this week I think and see what happens.

Samsi17 · 05/05/2025 08:49

Saying that, my scan looked clear on Friday and it seemed to have all happened naturally, and they said everything looked 'good' so I guess that was a small silver lining.. I just feel like it's the only thing that'll ease it a bit if I can get pregnant again quickly, though can imagine that's going to be full of anxiety now! I've read a lot of positive stories of people getting pregnant again the 2 werks after it happened...

january1244 · 06/05/2025 11:25

@Samsi17i think I didn’t wait either, we just went with a ‘what will be will be’ approach and carried on. I get that feeling of just wanting to be pregnant again asap! Fingers crossed for you.

I seem to have ovulated yesterday which would've been cd13 since the bleed so not too far off. Only dtd a couple of times so not expecting much, will hopefully get my period back on track in a couple of weeks if not and try again then. In the meantime going on holiday on Saturday so hopefully have some restful time (as much as possible with a toddler)!

ThatNimbleOP · 08/05/2025 19:27

Hello!

Hope everyone okay, apologies for abscence, no baby just life unfortunately.

@Samsi17 i am so so sorry for your loss. I can’t imagine what you must be going through. I hope you find solace in knowing there’s people out there thinking of you.

Be kind to yourself and take your time xx

@Samsi17 I'm so sorry to hear of your loss and can imagine your desire to not want to delay trying again. Wishing you well with the next cycles.

How is everyone else doing? I’m continuing with the raft of vitamins and have completely night weaned. We are now just down to one feed a day, so I’m keen to see what difference that makes, if any.

AF arrived today, 3 days earlier at cd25, so here's hoping my body is back to 'normal' and I'll be starting to test for ovulation once again soon. I feel so disheartened that I stopped breastfeeding (even though she seemed ready) and this was the result.
It feels a little bit like it was in vain I guess...
What vitamins are you on?
Well done on night weaning, that was my last one to go!

G0ldfinch · 20/05/2025 21:49

Hi @Samsi17 I’ll keep my fingers crossed for your cycle getting back to normal. I don’t think the stopping breastfeeding was in vain, it sounds like your DD was ready and it might be helping your body to prepare for another pregnancy.

I’m taking vitamins b6, c and e. Also a multivitamin with folic acid etc. Yes night weaning is almost my last one too! I found it easier to wean during the day when I could distract her or offer food instead.

ThatNimbleOP · 21/05/2025 09:37

Hello everyone! Long time no speak 😊

My AF arrived y’day @Samsi17 so happy to join you. We DTD once last month so didn’t have high hopes! Going to try SMEP this month.

My daughter is still co-sleeping/boobing like mad. We’ve set a date for mid-July to try and stop altogether 😊

Good luck for this month!

Hi!
Yes that sounds good, always feels like a long 2 week wait!!
Oh I've never heard of that method, will take a look!
I do still co sleep with my daughter! I love it though (most the time) and didn't want to stop that with stopping feeding.

BB3Hopefully · 21/05/2025 13:51

Hey everyone, looking to join the chats :) I'm ttc baby 3, still feeding baby 2 who's 21 months and showing no signs of slowing down on the boob! Still nurses morning and night, and we're cosleeping. I'm either 0DPO or 1DPO today, first proper month ttc where I'm actually tracking things. Cycle is still not fully regularised, it only came back in January, so I'm not too hopeful this month. Hoping everyone has a successful month!

ThatNimbleOP · 21/05/2025 16:59

@Samsi17 oh cool! How is co-sleeping without boob? I feel like my daughter does it in her sleep, so how did your little one cope when you stopped? Did she just stop thinking about it :D I don't even know how that's possible right now!

Hi @BB3Hopefully welcome! It's a very chilled chat, people post as and when they need to :) Oh wow so when they were 16 months, mine was about the same! I've heard first few cycles can be anovulatory. Wishing you the best of luck :)

Yeah mine was the same. She'd wake several times and go straight for the boob. I thought it would be a nightmare weaning her and would've happily continued if I'd gotten pregnant. But she slowly started to show signs of dropping feeds, I started just trying to give her a cuddle to settle her in the nights and that seemed to.work and she'd drift back off to sleep so she maybe just needs help connecting her sleep cycles I'm not too sure. The very last one to go was getting her to bed but she started only feeding for 5 mins or less then pushing off and cuddling into me to sleep, I then just decided to see if she'd do without and was amazed that she did. She just lies beside me and cuddles in to sleep now, some days are trickier than others but it was like that feeding also.

Strongbrewplease · 22/05/2025 22:33

Glad to hear you're all day OK!

About 5dpo over here, but only dtd the once on ovulation day so not really expecting anything this month. We accidentally did SMEP last month @ThatNimbleOP ! To no avail unfortunately but it was a fun month.

This month has been full of illness and teething (6 coming through at once 😱) so not had much of a chance!

We're just on night boob now, although it's more DD using me as a dummy more than anything else. I think weaning is in the horizon but I'm scared of the tantrums that it'll bring in the night...

BB3Hopefully · 24/05/2025 09:29

@ThatNimbleOP yeah I think bb2 was 17 months before my cycle returned! I was starting to get a bit concerned because with my first my cycle returned at 10 months and regularised quite quickly. But I think sometimes it just takes time!

@Strongbrewplease with my first, night weaning went so easily! I was prepared for a battle because it was around the clock nursing and I knew my supply was dropping as I was pregnant with my second, but baby just latched one day, unlatched, and never latched again! So hopefully it will go smoothly for you too!

OneKookyPinkShaker · 28/05/2025 13:47

Hey hope it's okay if I join this chat?

I'm currently breastfeeding my 13 month old who is boob mad at night so lots of co-sleeping. I have tried to cut down the number of at night feeds but I just feel he isn't ready he sobs inconsolably for an hour.

My period hasn't returned yet, I'm taking a breastfeeding multivitamin and floradix iron. I feel like something is going on I had very light spotting this month on a day and lots of cramping, increasing discharge so not sure if my cycle is getting ready.

We don't want a big age gap and it took around a year to concieve first time so was hoping my period would be back by now.

ThatNimbleOP · 31/05/2025 13:35

Hi @OneKookyPinkShaker of course!

Welcome! It’s not the fastest moving chat, most likely because we’re all mums here already 🤣 but all in the same boat. How many months PP are you?

Weve had a cracker of a week, daughter cut her foot on glass so stitches in the hospital. Weirdly think I’m ovulating/ovulated super early as well. Getting dark ovulation strips and mid-cycle pain and it was CD9/10! Managed to DTD the yesterday but tbh no idea what my body is doing. Had grand plans for SMEP so all out the window haha!

oh well at least this month should be a short one…

OneKookyPinkShaker · 31/05/2025 14:23

@ThatNimbleOP hey!

I'm 13 months pp no sign of period yet though annoyingly I have started getting super spotty so not sure if it's a sign of hormones starting to get back to normal or just unlucky lol

Sorry to hear about your daughter a&e is never fun hope she's okay!

Fingers crossed you managed to catch ovulation

Strongbrewplease · 31/05/2025 20:52

Hi @OneKookyPinkShaker ! My DD is another one that's boob mad at night, we've had a couple of nights recently where we've just had to let her cry because I couldn't hack anymore suckling 🫠 last night she was basically stuck to me for the full night!

So funny how much variation there is in period return, mine was back after about 3 months, I felt cheated 😆 not that it's made a difference to fertility mind you.

Cycle day 34/ 13DPO over here so due tomorrow. Unfortunately feels like it is on its way, although not surprising given we only had chance this month and that was on ovulation day.

@ThatNimbleOP what a week!! Hopefully things will settle down a bit and hopefully you DTD in time!! I'd take a short cycle any time!
