TTC whilst breastfeeding - cycle 4

ThatNimbleOP · 01/01/2025 20:01

Hello,

Is there anyone who’d like to join me…

Currently on cycle 4, CD11. Still breastfeeding my nearly 2 year old and co-sleeping, wondering if it’s having an effect on fertility as we conceived in a blink of an eye the first time…trying not to overthink it all.

Anyone welcome to join, don’t have to be breastfeeding, just any support welcome!

Thought last month was the month but here we are again… :/

@ThatNimbleOPfor me, my periods had come back and been a regular 30 days since my first was about 4/5 months old so I thought it would be okay. However EWCM was at different days, ovulation seemed delayed (especially if he was ill and feeding way more) and after I stopped breastfeeding my period was heavier. I think I’m one of the people sensitive to prolactin and other hormonal changes. And yes the side effects of these are more difficulty with ovulation and lining, and fertility being optimal really.

ThatNimbleOP · 31/03/2025 12:54

Yes exactly this! My periods used to be so regular but now they're all over the place...they seemed regular but lately i've had between 29-37 day cycles! Also less EWCM then prior...

Also read that if male partner has sperm issues this can be more apparent if you're trying for a baby over 30...my partner hasn't got his sperm tested yet as we're travelling all over the place but once he's got that can defo make more a definitive decision.

How is your current TTC going?

Oh god, yep when travelling breastfeeding is definitely easier!

Mine is postponed. Everything is so expensive, childcare is insane. We are finding it harder to juggle two (mine are just three and just one) and give them as much time as we want to. Work weren’t too happy with me taking leave, nor my partner taking it. We are not sure about a third. To be honest my partner wasn’t overly keen on more than two anyway. I would love another, but not sure if we could cope/manage. So we are just waiting, and will have to make a decision in the coming months

ThatNimbleOP · 01/04/2025 18:57

Hi @january1244! Oh yes I remember now…oh okay! Well it’s lovely to have you here whatever way your journey is 🥰

Hope everyone is well and enjoying the follicular phase!

Joining this thread if I can! My LO is 14.5 months, my period returned when she was 5 months even though I was EBF. Been ttc since then really and found I wasn't ovulating until day 18 or 19 so having short luteal phase. Just the last couple of weeks she seems to have been reducing feeds so I've decided to go with her cues and try to wean. Very sad about this as love that time for us, but as others have said I've heard it can affect implantation. I'm also 39, so time feels like it's ticking and I wanted them close together... interestingly I got a static smiley clearblue test on day 14, tested twice that day and got it around 6pm, could be coincidence... I'm on cd 20 now, tend to have 28 day cycles... I guess I'd be shocked if I happened so quickly but hopeful that it does as I'd like to go back to breastfeeding her. I did actually feed her for a short time after a week of stopping as boobs felt so full and sore a d it drained it all away immediately. Good luck to you all.

Welcome @Samsi17 😄 how are you feeling? You must be close to the end of your regular cycle now.

How is everyone doing? There must be a few LH peaks due soon. Mine however has decided to keeping dropping lower since I started testing on CD8, day 15 today and it was almost a squinter. Not looking good for a shorter cycle this month.

I am having a mineral analysis done just to make sure everything is at the level it should be. Hopefully thay will shed some light on irregularity.

Yes, I'm cd27 now... due AF on Saturday. Feeling very irritable and had a couple of symptoms that could be pregnancy but of course could also be PMS, so apprehensive for the next couple of days... 😫

Strongbrewplease · 11/04/2025 14:10

Fingers crossed they're pregnancy symptoms!
I found with DD that it just felt my period was due any second for ages! So definitely can go either way symtpom wise.

Finally had a higher LH reading this morning, only 0.4 but I'm finally back to where I started 8 days ago 🫠

Yes that's true thanks, I was the same when I was pregnant also. If I don't have AF tomorrow morning I'll test then.
Hopefully your peak is soon!

Hi everyone!

Hope all well :)

@Samsi17 welcome and wow, what a result!! Hopefully you'll send some baby dust to all of us. Did you say you stopped breastfeeding 2 weeks ago, did it make a difference to your cycle?

Or is this the first time you tried...it's so hard to tell if stopping anything makes a difference isn't it! Either way congratulations.

Think i'm 5DPO so got a long wait coming...literally just going with the flow now haha pardon the pun, what will be will be :)

Thank you! Juat hoping it sticks now 🤞
No, my period returned last May and I've been trying since July/August. I was ovulating but just very late in my cycle.
It's been 3 weeks now since I stopped and I ovulated cd14, whether or not it made a difference it's hard to tell but it seems very coincidental as I was cd18 or cd19 before. Good luck! I did just wait until AF was due as found it made me so down to test early and get a negative...

ThatNimbleOP · 14/04/2025 16:40

@Samsi17 oh wow, wow!! So that's fascinating, you've been trying for 10 months and the weeks after you stop breastfeeding - you get pregnant?

Did you have any lines/chemicals beforehand?

It would be a huge coincidence!! That must feel great :)

OP posts:
ThatNimbleOP · 14/04/2025 16:42

I'm sure you're giving some of us hope :) I've said if i'm not pregnant by July then i'll wean my little girl as my partner will be on school holidays so i'll go away for a while and he can manage 😥

My daughters 26 months though, quite a bit bigger then yours haha!

Yes, i still can't believe it, feels a bit too good to be true and I'm 39 also so just hoping all goes well 🙏
No I've not thankfully. I've pretty much had 28 day cycles but just think I was ovulating too late and do wonder if breastfeeding wasn't helping with implantation.
I actually can't believe she weaned, she was just showing signs of reducing so I took her lead, I've found it quite emotional though!!

Good luck! I think just with my age I thought i should start sooner rather than later but I was really hoping I'd fall pregnant while still feeding her tbh as i do miss it a lot, though do still co sleep with her!

Aw well super congratulations and keep us updated with your journey!!

@BabyBorn sorry I’ve only just seen your question about whether I did anything differently apart from the vitamins - no I haven’t! On month 2 of the vitamins now and am about 2DPO so we’ll see if the differences stay/multiply. Really hoping this works as I feel like if not my only option is to wean and although we’re heading towards that I’d rather not feel the pressure to.

congratulations @Samsi17! Hope all goes well and a few more of us join you shortly.

Good luck everyone else, wishing you all well this month.

ThatNimbleOP · 16/04/2025 20:29

Where’s everyone at in their cycle and how you all doing?

Think I’m 9dpo, getting usual mid-cycle cramping and a bit of dizziness but not holding out hope/thinking more PMS symptoms then pregnancy! Funny how longish periods of trying make you glass half full thinking 😆 quite refreshing tbh!

Not being pregnant gets more fun in summer, way more plus sides haha! That’s it ladies, let’s keep our moods up and positive vibes going 🙌🙌

Maybe we can tell each other what not being pregnant means we can do!

Ill go first…getting to eat whatever cured ham and any type of cheese I want on holiday!

Sushi? 😆

OP posts:
Strongbrewplease · 18/04/2025 10:08

Ooo yes @ThatNimbleOP all the sushi! For me (unsurprisingly) it's all the regular caffienated tea - decaf tastes like dishwater!

Currently on CD23 and nothing happening over here 🫠 I had a little LH surge 5 days ago but no where near a peak.

We've been dtd every other day this cycle so I have peace of mind we can't miss it I missed the peak - although I don't think I have.

The stress of being back FT at work coupled with DD being full of an awful cold could be having an impact thos month.

Hope you've all got a lovely long weekend lined up!

ThatNimbleOP · 23/04/2025 13:02

Hello everyone!

Period started yesterday, on to another cycle - woopie!

Decided with everything else going on in life, not going to stop breastfeeding till we're settled. If that means a lack of baby, then so be it!

How is everyone else doing :)

Thank you.
I had a big bleed this morning and went for a scan, they couldn't see anything so did an internal and could an embryo with yolk sac but measuring 5 days less than i thought. They weren't overly worried about that as said my ovulation couldve been later with breastfeeding but they also found a hematoma adjacent to it which is what's causing the bleeding. So for the moment it's ok but could go either way and they talked me through symptoms of a miscarriage... back in a week, but obviously very anxious and fearing the worst. Still bleeding but it's not clots or cramping. Hoping it'll ease soon... 😢

Strongbrewplease · 25/04/2025 22:31

Oh @Samsi17 how worrying for you! It really does sound like a positive outcome is entirely possible though. Wishing you the fastest week ever so you can get back in for some further news!

Still nothing happening on my end. I've come to the conclusion that my minor peak was actually my peak so based on that think I'd be around 11dpo. No actual clue what's going on this cycle and just going to wait and see - no testing allowed!

Thanks, i hope so but I'm still bleeding so I'm feeling pretty low and hopeless about it 😔

I think that's the best approach! I stopped testing too until my the date my period was due and for me anyway it helped keep me a bit more sane!
