I'm 47. Should I believe this?

Just turned 47 and got this result on an easy at home test (mid morning, same result mid afternoon)

5 weeks since last period (usually fairly regular at 28 days - been a little less regular over last few months, so assumed perimenopause was starting)

Not actually ttc, but definitely not doing anything to prevent it.

So.... would you believe this result?
Or could I be getting a false result because I'm in/near perimenopause?

I'm 47. Should I believe this?

I’ve not used this type of test but it looks positive. Can you get a digital with weeks indicator to make sure?

socks1107 · 03/06/2024 18:04

I'd say nothing to do with menopause and you are pregnant

imSatanhonest · 03/06/2024 18:08

Yes I'd believe it, that looks like a definite positive.

PurpleWhiteGreen123 · 03/06/2024 18:36

I would say it's a firm result!

Hedgeoffressian · 03/06/2024 18:39

That’s positive

DNAwrangler · 03/06/2024 18:40

Don’t see why you wouldn’t believe it tbh - clear positive!

StateOHer · 03/06/2024 18:43

It is a clear positive. Obviously you know the chances of miscarriage is much higher at yore age, but two of my aunts conceived and went on to have babies at 46 & 47. Good luck! Flowers.

Marghogeth · 03/06/2024 18:43

Had my last surprise baby at 46 - congratulations OP 😀

Olika · 03/06/2024 18:46

I would take that as positive. Do a digital.

Wish44 · 03/06/2024 18:53

Had my last baby just before turning 46!

congratulations op

Commonsense22 · 03/06/2024 18:56

OP that looks positive.

For everyone else's benefit Menopause CAN trigger borderline positive tests as it can present with hcg levels between 0 and 25miu/ml like the first week post implantation.

But here - the test is strong, the period is late... looks like a BFP :)

LoreleiG · 03/06/2024 19:03

Looks like a positive test to me!

lizziecat1 · 03/06/2024 19:20

Thank you everyone - you're all pretty convincing!
I know there's still a high chance of misscarriage for someone as ancient as me.... but for now, this is pretty amazing!

I am 40, one of my beat friends is 53. We both have 7 year olds!
Will never forget when she told me she was expecting at 46. She always assumed she would never had children, always wanted them but met lovely husband no 2 later on after a nasty experience first time round.

If this is good news for you - massive congratulations!

lizziecat1 · 05/06/2024 10:53

So... did a Clearblue weeks test today and it says '1-2'
I'm now cd38, so should be over 5 weeks - which should be at least a 2-3 result, shouldn't it?
I might have ovulated at cd22 (but was only recording cm, not properly tracking)
What should I think now? Most likely a chemical pregnancy?

I know not this cycle but Have you used ovulation sticks at all recently and getting positives ? If so, there is a good chance . Hope it sticks x if you're healthy with regular periods still, it looks like you have a good chance.

GreySofaCushion · 05/06/2024 11:08

That’s a definite positive OP!
I panicked after the clear blue digital dates were late to rise, there is a huge range of the HCG to trigger them.
You can do private at home finger prick postal tests for HCG from medichecks, 2 tests at least 48hours apart to see the level rise. And scan places will scan you from 6 weeks, from 7 you should have a definite heartbeat. But at 6 weeks you should see a sac and yolk sac and possible heart beat. But they can give you a god idea if it’s viable. I know a lot of people are happy to just wait for the 12week scan, but I would want to know if it wasn’t working out sooner.

But huge congratulations for now!

wow this is amazing, I love this for you! please keep us posted

I used to use those. Officially we've given up ttc, so all I was doing was half-heartedly keeping track of cm - not very accurate!

Thank you! I hope youre right, and the clearblue is just lagging behind. Kind of wish I hadn't wasted my money now as it's no clearer eitger way. I agree - there's no way I could wait 12 weeks. If I still have positive tests in a week or so, I'll book an early scan. Had 2 missed miscarriages discovered at the private scan clinic, so I'm not sure how keen I am on going back there!

Oh... when this happened to me it was a chem I'm afraid. Really hope it's not for you.

That said your test was really strong whereas mine were faint.

McConkeysPlate · 05/06/2024 11:58

I am in the same boat. 47 and 8 weeks pregnant 🤦🏼‍♀️. But my outcome is not great

Commonsense22 · 05/06/2024 12:06

Good luck @McConkeysPlate ! So hard to be thrown onto an emotional roller coaster if you weren't trying in the first place!

CosmicLove · 05/06/2024 12:08

Congratulations OP that's very exciting for you! I've read lots on here about the CB digital with weeks indicator not being accurate. So I wouldn't worry too much about it saying 1-2 when you think you conceived longer ago. There's other factors that can affect your hcg levels, like how hydrated you were when you took the test, so it's not an exact science. I had a MMC in April so I can imagine how anxious you're feeling. Keeping everything crossed for you ❤️🤞
