Anyone doing letrozole and trigger in Feb/Mar

TrainIsMoving · 11/02/2024 23:34

I'm CD7, this is my first time doing letrozole and trigger with follicle monitoring. Anyone in the same position? I have a history of repeated miscarriages so have a lot of other issues to track but I'd love to exchange experiences with people in similar boat. TIA

It’s such a minefield isn’t it.

I had a scan today to check on my lining. 4.9mm at 2 days post ovulation, disappointed as I got up to 6mm on my own last month (1mm means a lot right now 😂). They have prescribed progesterone - cyclogest. Not sure that’s going to make much difference but I’ve got nothing to lose. Have you had many side effects off progesterone?

@SadieBarts - it’s not easy is it. I think it’s really positive you got up to 9mm with two eggs. On day 9 I had 7 follicles over 13mm but only one became dominant, so it must do something to help increase the chance of releasing more than one egg each month.

@TrainIsMoving - sending you lots of positive thoughts. It does sound like it can take a few cycles before it works, so fingers crossed this protocol will get you there!

TrainIsMoving · 21/02/2024 22:18

@JadeCat thank you, hoping letrozole does the trick in the next few cycles 🤞
As for cyclogest pessaries, I'm on them 3 days now, tomorrow dpo 4. I expect symptoms to change over time but my worst symptom is constipation tmi sorry. Overall i haven't had much side effects, I'm on twice daily 400mg. I'll let you know how it goes!

No success this cycle, on to the next. How are you all doing? I had no issues with progesterone, but letrozole had worse symptoms.

Hey ladies can I join? Next cycle we are doing tamoxifen &'trigger. I done 4 cycles of letrozole and no joy, so we're trying tamoxifen to see if that works! Really frustrated now in my journey been trying since April 2022, had 2 miscarriages that year and one chemical last year! I'm
Currently day 18 of my cycle, no tamoxifen or anything this month but if I don't get pregnant then we will be doing the follicle tracking and trigger shot! I picked up the trigger actually yest, and the box and leaflet is in Spanish I think, will have to find a tutorial about it so confused with all the needles!?

TrainIsMoving · 15/04/2024 21:58

@JadeCat @CatmumTTC @SadieBarts how is your journey going? I've just come back to Mumsnet after a while.

SadieBarts · 16/04/2024 09:25

@TrainIsMoving I had my day 11 scan yesterday and taking letrozole has made me release 3 eggs, my lining is already 7.2mm with most dominant follicle at 18mm. No idea if it is the letrozole or acupuncture that has helped it. I don't think they will be scanning again, will just be transfer day. Still a little anxious I am only 7.2mm, but normally at ovulation I am 6mm, so this is good for me.

I tested for LH surge this morning and it still hasn't happened, so clinic will trigger me, I assume later this evening. Just waiting on them to contact me to confirm.

I had a good feeling about this one. I skipped last cycle as I was going on a Hen Do - I didn't want to be an emotional wreck. However, I ended up getting a very bad case of covid, so it would have been cancelled anyway. It is fate - so I keep telling myself. Means no drinking at the wedding next week, but as my other half is there for support, the only emotions will be seeing my friend get married 😂

How is it going with you?

TrainIsMoving · 16/04/2024 21:33

@SadieBarts lining improvement is great news 🙌🏻. Does trigger further help with lining? It'll be lovely to have the wedding as a distraction as well, fingers crossed it works out. Are you doing single or double transfer?

I'm good! Last cycle I got to the doctor's and I'd already ovulated 😭 and that was cd 13, as cd 11/12 were over the weekend. This time it also fell on the weekend, so I did my scan on cd 10, and had 2 follicles but they are above 23mm, so I've been googling mad about large follicles and it's quite mixed. I got the trigger then and there. It seems letrozole is making ovulation a LOT earlier and also "overstimulating", so if nothing comes out of this cycle I'll go back to 5 mg. Those 5 days drive me crazy, I get horrible migraines.

OP posts:
SadieBarts · 16/04/2024 21:47

@TrainIsMoving No I don't think trigger does, I think they don't want to miss it. I can tell as soon as I ovulate, I get quite a bit of pain and bad hot flushes. Haven't had it yet. I assume by morning it would have happened. Just a single transfer still, they think that is beet. After this 3rd attempt, they they have said maybe double after testing the embryos.

Def think letrozole makes ovualtion earlier. To have mine at 18mm on day 11 is crazy.

TrainIsMoving · 22/04/2024 15:17

@SadieBarts mine were both above 23 mm at CD10. I have read that it's not great to have so big, but gotta keep positive.
7 mm lining is good, hoping for the best for you

We are starting Letrozole this month. Ttc #3 (I have pcos) did anyone have a day 2 baseline scan or just start Letrozole at day 2 and a scan at day 10-12 to check follicles

TrainIsMoving · 22/04/2024 15:27

@Hopethiswork hello! I just did letrozole on days 2-6. No baseline scan but scan at CD 10-12. If you don't mind me asking what is baseline scan for?

I’m not sure ! My clinic just said I have to have a day 2 baseline scan but looking online I can’t see that it’s usual for a letrozole cycle ?

TrainIsMoving · 23/04/2024 10:07

@Hopethisworkinteresting, I think maybe they track to ensure nothing can affect the cycle e.g. cyst?
Have you had your first 2 on medicated cycles or naturally?

I'm feeling very down this morning. Had yet another negative. I don't think I can ever build resilience against this, I get so depressed with each negative.

First was clomid (but it made me so unwell ) and then my second was IVF but we didn’t get enough embryos to freeze any and it’s just so expensive that we are trying Letrozole instead 🤞

TrainIsMoving · 23/04/2024 11:29

@Hopethiswork I am thinking of IVF next. I feel like time is slipping away. I have very low AMH, which has been really confusing. Some doctors are saying to do IVF and others are saying that since I've been getting pregnant to wait, that it's a numbers game. But I haven't gotten pregnant for 6+ months now. How was your experience with IVF? Is it quite difficult on the body?

I hear letrozole is much better than clomid. I hope all goes well. I found this positive thread about letrozole: https://community.babycenter.com/post/a32751333/femara_bfp_reporting_thread?page=79. You might want to read that during your tww. It helps pass time

I had what was called ‘mild ivf’ as I have PCOS. I didn’t actually find it too bad once I’d done the first injection as it wasn’t painful like I thought. Emotionally it was hard sone days and the day before egg collection I felt like I’d burst the relief waking up afterwards was huge !

There’s a really good book called’it starts with the egg’ it has supplements and diet advice and may be helpful to optimise things if you have low AMH but remember you only need one egg I think it’s def quality over quantity (esp as I got lots of eggs at egg collection but hardly any were any good, only 2 got to day 5 then only one worked )

TrainIsMoving · 23/04/2024 13:03

@Hopethiswork I'll check out mild IVF. I think we are on opposite sides, you can be overstimulated while I have very low number of eggs and hard to stimulate? But I've heard for both mild IVF can be good. The thing with me is that I still ovulate naturally and have had 3 losses last year, so it seemed possible but then all stopped and nothing is happening in 8 months 😟 then the really low amh result really hit me. I have a blood clotting condition that was recently diagnosed as well after the third miscarriage, so I'm keen to try new protocol as soon as I get pregnant.
My son really wants a sister/brother, extra pressure 🤣

I had my FET today, the Dr said my lining looked very good. They just cant measure it during the FET. 12 days to wait until test day, it is going to drag!

TrainIsMoving · 23/04/2024 13:08

@SadieBarts that's great! You did well. I hope for positive news, but the fact that lining has improved means a good thing

SadieBarts · 24/04/2024 10:27

@TrainIsMoving I'm on 2 cyclogest and 1 lubion. Been told if successful, I will need to take lubion until 12 weeks, wow that is going to cost a lot - anything to help it though.

TrainIsMoving · 24/04/2024 11:33

@SadieBarts I have my fingers crossed for you. It's not an easy journey but please be kind to your self. I just had a definite negative on my 2nd cycle of letrozole (technically 3rd but 2nd we completely missed ovulation). The agony of getting negative this time got me spiralling down. But we decided to start IVF in July. I just hope that I can get some embryos. Sorry to ask but you mentioned you never want to do egg collection again? Was it very difficult process? With my extremely low AMH, I'm feeling deflated IVF is just going to be a huge cost for nothing. Sorry feeling very low this morning

OP posts:
SadieBarts · 24/04/2024 12:36

@TrainIsMoving I'm so sorry to hear this, it's so upsetting. I hope you have good support around you.

I have still 4 remaining frozen 5 day embryos, so NHS will not do another collection, it would need to be private. Kinda feel once I have used all 4, that may be my IVF journey done, however a friend had a baby last year through IVF overseas, so that may be a cheaper option, if we decide to go again. Plus I am 41 in July, getting on a bit now. Not sure if my eggs would be of any quality.

The 2 collections I had were so painful afterwards. I have PCOS so massively overstimulate. Both times I had over 30 collected. I looked about 6 months pregnant. The stress and pain has put me off a little.

It's traumatic going through IVF.

JadeCat · 30/04/2024 11:24

Hi ladies,

Not posted for a while as I took some time off.

@SadieBarts so pleased to hear that letrozole helped your lining. Keeping everything crossed for you ❤

@TrainIsMoving - it’s so tough picking yourself back up each month and going again. I felt really down after my last medicated cycle didn’t work.

After letrozole made my lining thinner I tried low dose FSH injections with trigger in March. It increased my lining to over 7mm which was positive but wasn’t successful. I then had to take a break for a HSG test.

This morning I’ve just had the go ahead that we can do IVF on the NHS. Which is good news, but also feels quite scary. The consultant said it’s likely to be a 2-3 month wait. I’m unsure whether to continue with injections or just have a break and wait for IVF?
