Anyone doing letrozole and trigger in Feb/Mar

TrainIsMoving · 11/02/2024 23:34

I'm CD7, this is my first time doing letrozole and trigger with follicle monitoring. Anyone in the same position? I have a history of repeated miscarriages so have a lot of other issues to track but I'd love to exchange experiences with people in similar boat. TIA

Hi. I am waiting for my next cycle to start and will be taking letrozole for the first time. I have no idea when AF is due to arrive. I had an abandoned FET 2 weeks ago, so far I have been bleeding for 16 days, just not as heavy as a period flow. Apparently it's normal. No idea where it is all coming from, my FET was abandoned due to thin lining.

TrainIsMoving · 12/02/2024 13:20

Hi @SadieBarts, I read that letrozole does help with lining. Are you also doing progesterone supplementation? I'm sorry to hear FET was cancelled. We might turn to IVF in the next 6 months if this doesn't work. We can support each other here for the coming months.

Progesterone would start after ovulation. I think they are hoping I release to eggs to help with lining.

Sorry, when you said trigger I thought you meant you were having IVF.

TrainIsMoving · 12/02/2024 20:59

@SadieBarts I have very low AMH so IVF was actually not recommended for me (yet). It seems I can get pregnant but I miscarry them early around 5-6 weeks. It's been a while since last pregnancy so letrozole was recommended to see if it can help to get pregnant again.

Sorry for my ignorance but do you already have eggs to transfer, and if so, is letrozole for helping with lining? Or are you also doing egg extraction?

It seems also there is provera to help start a proper period, but you may already know that.

@TrainIsMoving Yes, I have 5 embryos frozen (day 5). I have decided to never do another egg collection. When these have been used, that's as far as TTC goes for me.

My cycles are very regular, but my lining tends to be on the thin side and they don't know why.

JadeCat · 15/02/2024 10:06

Hi @TrainIsMoving I’m doing my first cycle of letrozole this month. I’ve been prescribed it to help with my lining. My cycles are regular but my lining doesn’t get above 6mm. I’ve been ttc for just over 12 months and never had a hint of a positive line.

Had my 11 scan showed a follicle at 19mm but my lining is still hovering around 4mm. I don’t think I’m too far away from ovulation so can’t see it happening this month.

TrainIsMoving · 15/02/2024 12:39

@SadieBarts good luck, 5 sounds really promising! Have you started letrozole? I've had a lot of tiredness even with just 2.5 mg. I have my follicle monitoring scan tomorrow 🤞
@JadeCat are you doing trigger or is letrozole to help with lining or IVF? Have you asked for progesterone? Ahh I don't really know a lot about how to improve lining.

JadeCat · 15/02/2024 18:06

@TrainIsMoving No trigger just letrozole to try and boost the lining and bring my ovulation date closer to day 14, as I’ve been ovulating around 18 - 20 since stopping the pill. I might ask about progesterone at my next scan.

Best of luck for your scan tomorrow! 🤞

CatmumTTC · 15/02/2024 20:10

We're probably starting letrezole with trigger shot and IUI soon so will be watching this thread to see how you get on! Probably not in time for next cycle as I'm due tomorrow and have to do some blood tests first, but probably the following cycle. We're going down this route because I have anovulatory cycles most months, due to PCOS.

SadieBarts · 16/02/2024 12:59

@JadeCat Im will be taking letrozole for my lining too. It only tends to get to 5.5mm. Have you had the hysteroscopy to check all ok?

@TrainIsMoving How do the scan go?

JadeCat · 16/02/2024 14:24

@SadieBarts I’m about the same, I got up to 6mm last month on a natural monitoring cycle. They said they might do a hysteroscopy if I don’t respond to letrozole or injections.

It does have me worried as I get the impression there is no real fix for thin lining. Have you had a hysteroscopy?

TrainIsMoving · 16/02/2024 15:32

I've got my scan in 30 min. Not sure what to think really, nervous.

Quick search tells me something about castor oil, evorel patches, nafarelin and progynova are used for improving lining. Have you heard of any of these?

Wish me luck

Best of luck @TrainIsMoving just think it’s only a snapshot of one day, lots can change over the course of the cycle x

TrainIsMoving · 16/02/2024 20:34

The scan went ok today, there is one dominant follicle, so I got an injection then and there.

UserL95 · 18/02/2024 00:34

Good luck everyone!
im on cd7 of my 2nd letrozole cycle. Scan booked for cd14 and I will most likely have a trigger shot again.
last month I had one dominant follicle and a good lining.
have been TTC for over 30 cycles which is insane.
I’m serious about medical assistance for TTC this year so will enquire about iui next too. But I need to get my bmi down to consider ivf.
also I private pay for my treatments

Rainbowsandcastles · 20/02/2024 16:28

I’m going to be starting my second cycle of 5mg letrozole soon and wondering if my Dr will consider a trigger shot this month.

I had my first cycle in January (after ovulating naturally in December for the first time in 2 years since having my implant removed) and whilst my scan looked good on day 14 it seems I didn’t actually ovulate on the 5mg letrozole. My lining was thickening and I had 2 growing follicles but nothing came of it unfortunately, progesterone bloods and OPKs all negative. If I’ve not started a period naturally by Monday, I’ve to get started on Provera and do another round of 5mg letrozole. The plan is to do more regular scans after the letrozole to see what’s happening this time around. If the letrozole is working to grow the lining and follicles, I wonder if a trigger is the final push they’ll need or if I’m just getting ahead of myself as it’s only cycle two! 🙈 Good luck all 🤞🏻

TrainIsMoving · 20/02/2024 16:49

I started on progesterone and am on dpo 2. Timed everything, but still don't really feel like it's going to happen. Will see how it goes. I can't confirm if I got the timing right or if ovulation happened but I assume they maximized for it. The follicle was 19mm and lining 9mm. They said it looked ok. I was surprised there was only 1 since I had 5mg letrozole, I thought it's usually 2 or more when on letrozole?

@Rainbowsandcastles yes trigger is supposed to help with anovulatory cycles. Have you had hormone tests such as FSH, LH, estrogen etc?

I'm doing letrozole, ovitrelle and progesterone this cycle. First cycle doing everything but I don't feel hopeful. Not much side effects actually, just a bit tired. Supposed to test on 3rd mar, so very long time away. Thankfully I'm super busy

SadieBarts · 20/02/2024 17:03

@TrainIsMoving Not started. I ovulated Monday, so waiting for my next cycle to start, however I think it is going to clash with me being away, so I will probably push it back another month - I am hoping it starts late (mine can go between 28days and 33days). I am exercising a lot as I find that sometimes helps in delaying it. I was on evorel last cycle and bleed for 13 days!! Amazing lining, mine has never been 9mm.

@JadeCat Yes I had a hysteroscopy with biopsy and nothing was found. Kinda makes it even more frustrating, as there is no reason for it.

Rainbowsandcastles · 20/02/2024 17:11

Yes, @TrainIsMoving i had hormone testing with my GP before being referred to the Fertility clinic & we took baseline bloods again in January. All my levels appeared in range and there wasn’t anything of concern raised last month 🤷‍♀️ At the moment it seems that my body struggles to get that surge of LH for some reason.

Two weeks has never felt so long but keeping busy is a must and thankfully I’m pretty busy in March too! Best of luck to you, I’ll be checking back to see how you get on!

JadeCat · 21/02/2024 09:59

@TrainIsMoving great news on your scan! 9mm is a great lining, sounds like the letrozole has helped. Fingers crossed for you on this cycle.

@SadieBarts that is frustrating, where you previously on the pill? I’m convinced that’s caused my thin lining. People do get pregnant with linings around 5 - 6mm so we can’t give up hope!

@UserL95 - well done on keeping going for over 30 cycles. I’ve found the whole process emotionally draining. I wish I’d never got on the ttc rollercoaster, I was doing fine before!

SadieBarts · 21/02/2024 11:03

@JadeCat Yes, think I was on the pill for about 10+ years, depo injection for 5, then implant for 4. Sure all these have messed it up. Strangely, before I had the covid jab, my cycles were pretty heavy, lasted 5 days and painful to the point I could throw up. Now light as anything, 2/3 days and not painful.

JadeCat · 21/02/2024 11:34

@SadieBarts how long have you been off them for. I was on the pill for 10+ years, I switched to the mini pill for the last two and that stopped my periods completely. Since coming off in Oct 22 my periods have been the same - 2/3 days max and very light. I’m convinced long term hormonal contraception thins your lining down.

Are you just going to try letrozole for a few cycles to see if it makes a difference? My consultant said he’d switch me to injections if the letrozole doesn’t work, but I’m not sure if I’m ready for that yet.

SadieBarts · 21/02/2024 12:45

I came off just over 5 years ago in Jan 2019. My cycles changed in July 2021.

Yes, my next one I will take Letrozole for 5 days and see if that helps. They want me to release more than 1 egg - this happened on a completely natural cycle once and my lining got to 9mm. Unfortunately I bleed once I had ovulated and it shrank down to 6.2mm so they abandoned it. After that, they included Lubion with Cyclogest, haven't had issue with bleeding since apart from last cycle, which I think was due to too much estrogen. It is never easy 😂

TrainIsMoving · 21/02/2024 12:46

Thanks ladies. It's so hard to not know what the exact issue is. I think this is what makes this process so difficult as I don't know what to do to make it better.

I don't think this cycle it's going to happen, but letrozole, trigger and progesterone are here to stay for few cycles. I was advised IVF is not right for me, so I don't really have other options. Hope something happens soon. My issue has not been getting pregnant (at least last year), so I just want to try the new medication to keep the baby. Dr said she will up letrozole to 7.5 mg next cycle, I've been having bad joint pain and tiredness, so I hope it doesn't get worse.

My periods also changed so much over the last couple of years. I've never been on contraception, but even then it's different each cycle. With COVID jab and covid, my cycles have gone absolutely hectic, they are more painful, longer and unpredictable.
