Any other lurkers out there patiently (or impatiently!) waiting to TTC in the new year?

Anything in particular you're doing to prepare?

I'm also taking seven seas trying for a baby 😊

TeddyBeans · 13/12/2023 18:59

Hi ladies, bit random but I have a bunch of opks and pregnancy tests left over from TTC my 9 month old and was wondering if they'd be of use to anyone here?

The opks are dated for 04/2023 but I don't know if it really affects the results?? The pregnancy tests are dated for 05 and 06 2024

Hello everyone, how are we?

CD1 for me and this may be the month we get started, so all feeling very real!

How's anyone else getting on? Anyone else started or starting soon?

OP posts:
MrsRandallFraser · 18/12/2023 11:16

@skyerojo my cycles are still all over the place, I had a 38 day followed by a 24 day, so found it really hard to track and figure out when I'm ovulating. Think we're just going to DTD every other day and hope we catch it that way. CD8 for me now so seems like a good as time as any to start!

WonderingAboutBabies · 18/12/2023 11:49

Hello!!

I haven't started yet - though have started taking the Pregnacare Conception vitamin tablets!

Going to purchase some ovulation sticks in the new year so I can see when I normally ovulate. My cycles are very irregular due to PCOS (anywhere from 17 to 38 days!).

Brother in law has just got engaged and announced his wedding for September... Determined to go ahead with our plan regardless!!

StampOnTheGround · 18/12/2023 13:54

Tracking my cycle this month after coming off the implant on the 1st and things seem to be a little different to when I was on it - so think I am ovulating or about to now (which would make sense at CD13).

Im all for going ahead from next month, my husband might take a little more convincing 😂

skyerojo · 18/12/2023 16:08

Ahhh how exciting, nice to hear from you guys again.

Those with PCOS - must be such a pain, I don't have it (don't think) but do have quite long cycles and now TTC is getting closer I'm realising how long a wait it is each month! Going to try my best not to get too fixated with dates and tracking etc... not for the first few months at least.

In the meantime I shall be thoroughly enjoying my booze and feasting this Christmas - possibly ovulating around NYE, so we'll see if we feel like starting then...

We didn’t start yet. I am still pending my medical exam, got my period today, so the next cycle (first in 2024) will be the one for us. That works for me, as I would’ve hit the 3 months of vitamins that’s recommended and hopefully would have the check on my potentially badly placed fibroid done.

As said, a couple of years ago I wanted to understand better my fertility and monitored ovulation with OPK (and used them as contraceptives). I ordered another box, tested a couple of times since starting taking the vitamins now. I will be using them when we officially start TTC.

MEEEE!

Applesandcake · 22/12/2023 08:19

(Re posting here as also posted on the dec thread)

Officially 1dpo in my first cycle ttc no.3… crazy! I’ve been agonising over if we should have a third since my second was 3 days old and I looked at him, full of love hormones, and thought “oh my god, he’s so perfect, he can’t the my last!”. I thought it would wear off but it never has (and before him I have always wanted three but was trying to be “sensible” and get used to the idea of 2).

We will dtd the today one last night, and have dtd ever day since Sunday (I know some people go for the every other approach, but after reading about it seems overall dtd every is best assuming your partner does not have a low sperm count, and we have no reason to think he does but you never know).

Im even obsessed than I thought I’d be. I’ve been the same every pregnancy but I thought though maybe third time around, i would finally be a little more relaxed, but I’m not! I can already see I’ll start testing 8dpo!

I’m going to try my hardest to really enjoy chirstmas and focus on the kids, and hope that distracts me.

Welcome @Solyaire @tryingforbaba & @Applesandcake!

You sound excited @tryingforbaba 😆 love to see it. What's your story, first rodeo or trying for more?

@Applesandcake 3 will be lovely, how was your ttc journey with the others?

I'm just plodding on with my pre vits trying to stop us both getting cold feet this cycle, I know I want this! But such an intense time.

And anyone else finding the supplements giving them headaches? Or just me?

I was pretty lucky with the others.

My first was the 2nd month; my 2nd was also the second month. Then I fell pregnant unplanned on a one off five days before I ovulated! But that was a fluke. Sadly it ended in a miscarriage, but it meant we finally talked about a third properly, so it helped us make that decision.

I am 38 now though, and still breastfeeding my 2nd, so I’m aware things might take longer this time.

Timeforacutie · 23/12/2023 23:25

Hi 🙂

joining on… second cycle TTC. Just got AF today so jumping on this thread.

The first cycle I was convinced I was pregnant with all the post ovulation symptoms that are similar to premenstrual symptoms and spent money testing way too early so this time my aim is not to test until I miss my period, think it will be easier that way.

Surprised how sad I was with the arrival of AF today even though it was my first cycle trying and I know I can become obsessive (all or nothing) so I’m trying to relax more this time.

I also saw someone posted about the SMEP and so read about that, I think I’ll give that a go.

AF means the start of a new chance anyway so here we go! It’s been so interesting reading everyone else’s stories.

is anyone else concerned about diet / are you eating anything different to usual other than trying to eat less junk?

pros of AF now is we can enjoy a guilt free glass of bubbly for the Christmas period! X

WonderingAboutBabies · 26/12/2023 15:17

Hello!!

Aw, that's difficult but as you said, it is only your first cycle! Hopefully it won't take too long for you (and the rest of us!).

Re. diet, yes I've had a lifestyle overhaul over the past 2 years and have dropped 3.5 st so I am now much fitter and healthier which I hope will help with conceiving! I still have the occasional treat/junk food but nothing compared to the amount I was eating before. Lots of fresh fruit and veg, mixture of meat and vegetarian meals, varieties of meat (not just chicken everyday), limited to one cup of coffee a day... very limited amounts of alcohol (1-2 glasses of wine a month??).

It's almost January now... hopefully this time next year we will all have our babies with us (either in our arms or bellies!) x

onetwoandthree · 26/12/2023 20:43

Hello 👋 can I join please? Jumping over from the December thread too. Ttc number 3 - Jan officially marks 2 years of trying. Af arrived yesterday. Been using opks to track ovulation the whole time so have a good idea of my cycles . Tracked bbt for the first time this month and it seemed to confirm ovulation which is good 👍🏻

Daisychain27 · 27/12/2023 00:19

Room for one more? 😊

New to all this! This will be my first. Mid 30s, me and my bf weren’t originally going to try just yet as there’s a few things (like our living situation) we wanted to change first, but decided there’s no perfect time anyway, so here we are! Very conscious of age and I have a suspicion something is up with my body due to some symptoms like spotting a lot before period actually starts, so I’m waiting for a appt but serious stuff has been ruled out so far. I did have “borderline” pcos years ago but it resolved itself. I’m thinking maybe low progesterone or high testosterone but we’ll see.

Me and my bf have actually been DTD this month but due to my naivety I didn’t know I was supposed to be taking folic acid yet! Will buy some tomorrow, how important is it that you take it for 3 months first?

Anyway nice to meet you all! Looking forward to chatting

Hoping I'm still in contention for a December BFP, but I have a feeling I'll be joining this thread. I've been taking folic acid for about 2 months now. Maybe a little bit more.

Solyaire · 27/12/2023 07:04

@skyerojo thanks again! Looking forward to share this journey

@Daisychain27, studies say to take folate/folic acid at least three months before starting TTC as good levels help reducing risk of neural tube defects. Seems that neural tube is formed in the very first weeks of pregnancy.

https://www.cdc.gov/ncbddd/folicacid/faqs/faqs-general-info.html;

https://www.nhs.uk/pregnancy/keeping-well/vitamins-supplements-and-nutrition/

It is not always possible, but better to start as soon as you are able.

On my side, very little to report (other than we got married!). I will be tracking this cycle with OPKs.

Pre-conception Folic Acid and Multivitamin Supplementation for the Primary and Secondary Prevention of Neural Tube Defects and Other Folic Acid-Sensitive Congenital Anomalies - PubMed

The quality of evidence in the document was rated using the criteria described in the Report of the Canadian Task Force on Preventative Health Care (Table 1). Summary Statement In Canada multivitamin tablets with folic acid are usually available in 3 f...

J3llycat · 27/12/2023 07:37

Hey! Please can I join? 😊 really weird to actually be joining one of these threads but we will be ttc in the Spring, due to various reasons, for our first. 27/29. Had an (accidental) CP before so have done lots of research and already taking coq10, folic acid (think i'll switch to folate?), vit c and a whole lot of others 😂 also been cycle tracking since 2020 so know that side of things well. 2024 will be a big year if all goes smoothly!

Timeforacutie · 27/12/2023 08:32

Congratulations @Solyaire on getting married! How did it go? Did you have a lot of people?

Thank you @WonderingAboutBabies , I’m trying to cut down on my sugar and crisp intake which will be the big one for me and also eat protein breakfasts before my 1 coffee of the day.

But it’s hard around Xmas time to be good! 🤣

I’m using the clue app to track my cycles, clear blue ovulation tests ,the his and her pregnacare preconception vitamins and now I’ve done some reading I think I’ll add coq10 and omega 3,6,9 to that. I’m hesitant to start tracking BT because I feel I’m already getting obsessive and don’t want another thing. Last time I found it really hard to turn everything off in the TWW

MrsRandallFraser · 27/12/2023 10:22

@Daisychain27 i wouldn’t worry too much if you haven’t started taking any supplements. Think of the thousands of women who get pregnant who aren’t trying and go on to have perfectly healthy babies. If I were you, I’d start taking some when you can but I certainly wouldn’t put off starting TTC for 3 months just becuase you haven’t been taking them.

Good luck to you and everyone else!

Nothing to report here really, still tracking using OPKs, this will be third cycle of doing that, I never seem to get the peak though, but using 3 different apps (obsessive, me? Never!) my ovulation this month should’ve been sometime in this last week or is happening today, so going to keep DTD every other day until the last predicted fertile period has passed and see what happens.

skyerojo · 27/12/2023 15:28

Hello everyone! We've got a good sized crew going here now haven't we 😃 we can (try to) keep eachother sane!

Big congrats on your wedding @Solyaire.

I've been taking vitamin d and 5mg folic acid (prescribed by my doc for specific reasons) for a few months now but was getting the most awful headaches so I've had to stop with the folic acid over xmas. I plan to go to a pharmacy soon and restart taking it but at the normal dose and just hope that's good enough... otherwise I was also thinking about switching to folate instead, @J3llycat can I ask why you're considering switching?

OP posts:
tryingforbaba · 27/12/2023 20:08

Me!!! We started trying in Dec but came on period 2 days ago.

Will try again this month.

Daisychain27 · 27/12/2023 20:16

Thanks everyone, looks like a supplement I already take has the required folic acid in it anyway, who knew! So I’m good to go lol.

Does anyone else’s partners work away? Mine is away til Saturday now, that will be CD17 for me so I’m slightly worried we will have missed the boat, but I’m not testing for ovulation yet. Does anyone recommend any particular OPKs? They seem to vary a lot in price, not sure what to do? I’ve seen the clear blue digital ones but that seems like an expensive way to find out?

onetwoandthree · 27/12/2023 20:59

@Daisychain27 I used to use the clear blue digital ones as they’re really easy to understand but agree they are expensive. For the last 7 months I’ve been using the eaay@home ones along with the Premom app. You upload a photo every time and it analyses it for you. They’re much cheaper and seem to be working much better for me seeing as I have rapid onset so test twice a day so I don’t miss my peak.

We’ve used every conception vitamin there is on the market it seems 🤣 but this month we’re going back to pregnacare and coq10 for both of us. Never tried the coq10 so here’s hoping it’s the magic we need!
