Any other lurkers out there patiently (or impatiently!) waiting to TTC in the new year?

Anything in particular you're doing to prepare?

Joining this thread! We will start TTC in January 2024.

I am quite lucky I was not on the pill so the only things I have done was to go to the OBGYN in October, get some prenatal vitamins prescribed and starting this November cycle using OPKs.

A couple of years ago I started being more conscious about fertility and downloaded and read some books, and I thought I would be doing a very clean diet in those 3 months prior to starting but I am pretty much eating as always and trying to exercise regularly.

WonderingAboutBabies · 17/11/2023 14:53

It'll be our first! 😃

My pre-natal tablets just arrived... I just meekly held them up in front of DH and said I need to know when to take them as you're supposed to take them for 3 months before TTC and he just said "take one now". So looks like we're working towards February as our starting point 😆. Just took the tablet... nerves and excitement kicked in massively - cue giddy laughs and hugs with DH... Really looking forward to this journey together ❤

@Solyaire I've also been thinking about fertility for ages! My weight shot up in my early twenties due to depression and I've worked so hard to get it all off - I've lost 3 stone and now back to a healthy weight! Also going to try and eat a bit better over the next few months but with Christmas coming up that's going to be a challenge!!

StampOnTheGround · 17/11/2023 14:55

Hello!

Also patiently waiting to TTC from January 2024 - getting my implant out in 2 weeks and then ready to go!

I have started taking Folic Acid a couple of days ago.

This will be for baby number 2!

January seems to be coming around so slowly haha

skyerojo · 17/11/2023 15:20

Hello @StampOnTheGround exciting! How old is your little one? Was it a smooth journey first time round?

I'm also finding time is going very slowly... 😆

MrsRandallFraser · 17/11/2023 15:56

It'll be our first too. Nervous and excited in equal measures!

StampOnTheGround · 17/11/2023 16:26

@skyerojo he's 19 months currently, so 21 months when we start trying again! 😊

We were very lucky it was fairly smooth the first time around, so fingers crossed it will be again 🤞🏻

skyerojo · 18/11/2023 11:03

@StampOnTheGround aw nice age gap. That's great, yes fingers crossed. Will you be tracking/using OPKs or anything? Did you last time? I wasn't planning to as I'm hopeful I've started spotting my natural signs of ovulation... but never say never!

Looking to start TTC from Jan 2024, but feeling so tempted to start trying from December 😁 anyone on the same boat?

skyerojo · 19/11/2023 21:12

@Cantcareless I might be joining you in December technically! Though guessing at dates it would be very end of the month. When are you thinking? Are you excited to start?

OP posts:
Cantcareless · 19/11/2023 22:28

@skyerojo I had a think and feels like Jan would be the right time for us. Are you using OPKs?

skyerojo · 19/11/2023 22:44

@Cantcareless don't plan to, following a weekend of sudden nerves over it all (does anyone else get this?! 🙈) I think we may start by just not preventing... and see what happens for a while.

What's your plan?

OP posts:
StampOnTheGround · 20/11/2023 09:40

@skyerojo no we didn't do any using OPKs last time - we didn't want to put any pressure on it and that would be something we'd have done after 6 months or so if it was needed!

I just tracked my periods and from there it just said when ovulation probably was (but of course everyone can be different!).

It's exciting but a nerve racking time!

WonderingAboutBabies · 20/11/2023 10:49

TW TW TW: miscarriage

I just popped to my GP this morning for a chat about conceiving!
She basically said I was super healthy and I should be ok, even with PCOS. But to go back after 6 months if nothing has happened.

I also asked about miscarriages and what I could to prevent them. She said unfortunately there's not much people can do, if they're going to happen, they will happen. It's the body's way of telling us the pregnancy/foetus isn't viable. She said 'whatever happens, it is NEVER your fault'. I found that quite reassuring to hear to be honest - thought I'd share in case it helps you guys too ❤

Also, she mentioned for men, they really shouldn't have/do the following:

  • hot baths!!!!
  • laptops on laps
  • cycle
  • wear tight boxers
  • drink during ovulation period
as it all makes the sperm quality worse! She also said that if you haven't DTD for a while, it is better to.... 'release' the sperm... so a fresher batch comes in - apparently the older the sperm, the worse the quality...

A very fascinating trip to the GP!! 😆

Itstime2023 · 20/11/2023 11:27

Hiii.

We've said next year, although I am ready now.
Stopped contraception and started taking vitd and folic acid.

Can I ask, what is it you are waiting for? Jobs? Financial stability? Just your agreed timeline?

I only say this because quite honestly I could start anytime now lol and husband is like well we said next year. And he also said he doesn't want to be pressured come January, so we said we'll just be not preventing but not trying if that makes sense. A piece of my mind thinks he's still not ready 😬

WonderingAboutBabies · 20/11/2023 12:23

Welcome!!

We're just waiting to finish our probation periods at work... both due to finish end of January. Everything else is in place i.e. mortgage, location, physical health, marriage, etc. This is where we wanted to be before we had kids!

MrsRandallFraser · 20/11/2023 12:49

We're the same - not preventing but not trying. I just think my cycles are all over the place at the moment so it'll be easier to track and plan from January onwards, though if anything happened before it would be a nice surprise really.

knowledgeablyclueless · 20/11/2023 16:46

TW: abortion

We're going to TTC from next summer 😁 (boyfriend says next summer but I'll take that as April/May...)

I'm 29 and he's 27. Been together a year and a half, bought a house together earlier this year.

I've wanted children all my life but never found the right person before him. We have 3 nephews and 1 niece between us so we've had amazing practice and insight. I'm the last of my friends my age to have children but he'll be the first.

I got pregnant extremely easily when I was young, so I don't think we'll struggle which is why I'm trying to get all my ducks in a row now.

I need to schedule a GP app as I had HG in my first pregnancy and want to make sure I will have access to the right treatment this time.

Currently taking a multi vit but will change to a pregnancy once soon. I am lucky in that my cycles are always extremely regular at 27-28 days.

skyerojo · 20/11/2023 19:06

@StampOnTheGround @MrsRandallFraser ok good, yes this is my plan too.

@Itstime2023 what am I waiting for? Hmm good question, ideally some sign from above to let me know 'yes this is definitely your time, go' because I can't quite believe I've reached this stage and its up to me 😆

I'm just basically totally winging it now based on gut instinct/biological urges that I can no longer ignore (I'm 33). Other half would happily wait a bit longer I think, has said knows it's what he wants too but is bit nervous as is there ever really a perfect time?! So poss similar to you and your DH. How long have you been together/married?

OP posts:
Cantcareless · 20/11/2023 20:03

@skyerojo haha sometimes it's hard to think of practical reasons I know. This would be my second and I think it's totally down to the natural broodiness in my opinion.

skyerojo · 20/11/2023 20:24

Good to know @Cantcareless because I definitely have that 😆

OP posts:
Itstime2023 · 20/11/2023 20:31

@skyerojo sounds similar to me. Married 2 years, together 7.

I think husband is waiting for the "perfect" time, keep telling him such time does not exist but also trying to mindful not to pressurise him.

It's a difficult balancing act.

knowledgeablyclueless · 21/11/2023 12:07

What pre-natals are you guys taking? 😊

MrsRandallFraser · 21/11/2023 15:21

@knowledgeablyclueless I'm taking the seven seas trying for baby multivitamin, COQ10 and omega 3. I went for an omega 3 that had quite a high DHA content as that's the bit that's supposed to be good for egg quality.

Itstime2023 · 21/11/2023 18:13

Just Asda vitd and folic acid.

WonderingAboutBabies · 21/11/2023 21:07

Pregnacare conception ones! They're 3 for 2 at the moment!
