if you conceived at 35+ how long did it take you? Especially if you had other children how long did it take you v when you were under 35?

ive got 2 and would love a 3rd (hence the username) but life as it is, and col can’t really justify trying until next year and then I’ll be 35. I was reading now research shows that the sharp decline in women’s fertility is thought to be more around 37 and on, my friend was telling me whatever association they have in the states has updated their guidelines to reflect this, but still wondered if it would take longer.

my first was about 7/8 months but in a high stress environment, my second first try. I had my amh taken when I was 29 and it was pretty high (if that matters)

Dc1 - first time we had unprotected sex aged 36, going on 37. 37 when he was born.

Dc2 - 4 or so months of trying casually aged 40. Turned 41 when dd was 6 weeks old.

ditalini · 16/08/2023 23:32

Started trying for ds2 aged 36 and conceived the month of my 40th birthday.

Didnt have any investigations or interventions, just happened that way.

GreenMonstersParty · 17/08/2023 00:05

Conceived DC1 & DC2 in first month of trying (was early 20s then). DC3 took 6 months to conceive when I was 36.

Spent months using ovulation tests, taking basal temperature etc but nothing worked. Finally got pregnant after an extremely relaxing long weekend away and gave up doing anything other than have sex when we fancied it.

All DC have the same dad too

LadyWhistledown · 17/08/2023 07:46

Six months at just turned 37 for DD followed by seven miscarriages in the following four years. The last one was in November and have now accepted that a second baby is not meant to be as I rapidly approach 43.

Please don’t tell everyone it’s easy to get pregnant at 39 just because you did. It’s not easy at that age.

So what...you want people to lie?

It might not be that easy for some people, but equally its a LOT easier for some people than they arelead to believe.

I tried for 3 months at 37 and was hysterical i was barren (having read everything that says post 35 is a disaster zone) so started private fertility testing which we couldnt complete...as i was pregnant.

Baby no 2 i put a time limit on try to concieve of 9 months as i didnt want to keep going into inifinity. I got pregnant first try at 39.

More than half the women i know the children are over 35. Some had more complicated journeys than others but all of them got their babies in the end.

The OP is just over 35 with healthy children already whats to suggest She'll have problems?

mondaytosunday · 17/08/2023 20:35

Had mine at 41 and 43. Took four months each time.

mrsed1987 · 17/08/2023 20:47

1st at 30, took me 2 cycles.

I'm pregnant now, nearly 36, took 5 cycles, but I think I was just lucky the 1st try!

MrsJamieFraser22 · 17/08/2023 20:52

Had mine at 35 & 39 with a mc in between the 2. Took 3 months on all 3 occasions. Good luck op 🤞

My third was a happy accident.

Shagged husband once that month.

I was 38.

Same here! 😂

Littlemissprosecco · 17/08/2023 20:54

Had first at 31, third at 36, all conceived within a few months of trying

ThePersistenceOfMammories · 17/08/2023 21:13

1st age 21 3 cycles
2nd age 23 7 cycles
3rd age 35 3 cycles
4th age 36 7 cycles (natural mc @11+3)
5th age 37 4 cycles

Gassylady · 17/08/2023 21:15

Six months for my first at 35 and two. On-The-Go for my second at 39

Jomummy1013 · 17/08/2023 22:36

I've always been lucky. Had my eldest at 28, first month trying. Second I was 31, second month trying. Third I was 33 and I had sex once, she was not planned. I am 17 weeks pregnant now, again not planned, I am 41, and I had sex once and I got pregnant.
I know I'm lucky but I didn't find any difference between 28 and 41. I got told that the 35 plus thing is not really accurate for a lot of women.
Good luck FlowersFlowers

moggerhanger · 17/08/2023 22:39

I have had three pregnancies and two births, conception at ages 36, 37 and 38. All at first time of trying.

Rachael2023 · 17/08/2023 22:49

Got pregnant at 18, 21, 25, 28, 30, 34 (not all resulted in births). All conceived on either 1st or 2nd month of trying.

Last baby at age 38 took 7 months but she was with a different partner so not sure if that contributed in any way.

AnIndianWoman · 17/09/2023 10:56

10 years ttc from my 20s.

The statistics for older mums come from ivf clinics, not older mums who haven’t had ivf (which are the majority of pregnancies in the over 35). There was some interesting research that women in western countries who had their first after 30 tended to preserve fertility longest as they were healthier and wealthier than women who had children younger - but longevity and natural fertility after 40 have been linked for a long time.

Bex4567 · 28/12/2023 21:05

Hey did you ever go for any tests, scans at any point

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 28/12/2023 21:23

DC1 - conceived in 2 cycles at 37.
DC2 - conceived in 1 cycle at 40.

Those were the only times I've been pg.

Belshels · 11/01/2024 21:30

1st attempt age 36, and around the 2nd attempt at 38. Was envisioning it taking longer, but was just lucky.

MoonIightDreamer · 11/01/2024 21:54

I'm currently pregnant with my first at 38. We had ivf and it worked first time.
We couldn't get pregnant without ivf, not age related . We had fertility issues on both sides

petmad · 17/01/2024 19:14

i m not being horrible but i hear a lot of couples trying too hard to get pregnant. My advice take it easy don't focus to much time and energy into getting pregnant. spontaneity stops enjoy you're life live for now if it happens it happens

Bex4567 · 17/01/2024 19:21

I totally get where your coming from and I've heard alot of people say that they booked a holiday or gave up and it happened...but its alot harder than people think ..its not that easy to just forget I'm afraid

postytoasty · 17/01/2024 19:36

Age 33/34 took over a year and age 39 it took a couple of months (surprisingly!). Anecdotally most of my uni peer group had their first after 35 and I know many women who've conceived naturally late 30s/early 40s. However I also know some who've struggled with infertility for years and have needed IVF at this age. No way of knowing how it will be for you until you start trying. But I wouldn't say it's unusual to conceive naturally in your late 30s. You only need to take a look back in the history books when women had kids from their late teens/early 20s and continued on to the menopause. My grandma was born into a big family when her mum was in her late 40s.
