If you conceived at 35+

if you conceived at 35+ how long did it take you? Especially if you had other children how long did it take you v when you were under 35?

ive got 2 and would love a 3rd (hence the username) but life as it is, and col can’t really justify trying until next year and then I’ll be 35. I was reading now research shows that the sharp decline in women’s fertility is thought to be more around 37 and on, my friend was telling me whatever association they have in the states has updated their guidelines to reflect this, but still wondered if it would take longer.

my first was about 7/8 months but in a high stress environment, my second first try. I had my amh taken when I was 29 and it was pretty high (if that matters)

So, where we live 35 + is probably the average age of a middle class mum

You do understand that is not what the average woman would be able to achieve right?

OP asked for people’s experiences, and they are posting them. No one is talking about “the average woman”.

If this thread is triggering for you, maybe it is best not to look at it?

Ifyouknowyouknowyouknow · 15/08/2023 23:28

Interested in this OP! I’m trying for no 3 at 36 and this is cycle 1 so will let you know how I get on.

Ive got 2dcs (born when I was 31 and 33) and also had 4 mcs (between age 29 and 33) and all except dc2 were conceived first try. DC2 was cycle 3, when I was 32-33. Interested to see how it goes with ttc no3!

Started trying for first aged 35. Finally had him 3 and a half years and 3 rounds of ivf later. Think it's a minority that struggle so much in mid 30s, but if you are in that minority it sucks and ivf is not a cure all for age -related fertility issues

SlightlygrumpyBettyswaitress · 15/08/2023 23:45

Dd1 first attempt at 26. Dd2 second attempt at 28.
Dd3 took 3 years, finally conceived at 39!

AnneLovesGilbert · 15/08/2023 23:51

Second was conceived at 39 in the first cycle. Still getting my head around it and he’s a few months old.

Best of luck OP.

Ovaltiner · 15/08/2023 23:55

I think the difficulty with this is that there is no such thing as the 'average woman'. So, whilst fertility does decline at the age of 35+, there are some that buck the trend.

I had my first three DC when 34, 36 and 38 (2 months before 39th birthday), all at the first month of trying. DC4 was completely unexpected when I was 42 (using condoms and not in a fertile window).

I am now 50 and still having regular periods and very careful with contraception. My friends of the same age are much less so.

HangingStars · 16/08/2023 00:08

Conceived at 29 on second month (maybe 3rd, but not more than that). Then conceived a surprise baby at 35 on a drunken night out.

RosieRainbow1986 · 16/08/2023 00:15

6 cycles with the first but ended in miscarriage (was 35) and 12 cycles with my second (successful pregnancy) - was 36. All the best :-)

Blackberriesbob · 16/08/2023 00:19

1st baby was 33. 2nd born when I was 42. No contraception was used since 1st. Don't know why it took 8 years. Fertility is incredibly individual. Nearly all women are effectively infertile by around 45 but how fast that happens depends on the person.

SparkyBlue · 16/08/2023 00:23

Conceived at 39 on first month trying and then had a surprise pregnancy at 43.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 16/08/2023 03:03

DC were conceived at 37 and 40, both on first cycle of trying. Good luck.

3rdtimemumma · 16/08/2023 05:10

No ovulation tracking, 1st month for all of mine. Age 40 at last conception. Pretty shocked as was expecting it to take longer. Every. Time.

Ragwort · 16/08/2023 05:16

First baby born when I was 42 ... I wasn't actively 'trying' as in monitoring my fertility or anything like that (DH was much keener than me) but just stopped using contraception.

Littlegoth · 16/08/2023 05:19

Conceived 5 times on the first month of trying aged 36, 37, 38 (successful pregnancy), 40 and 41 (successful pregnancy) and once in the second month aged 37. I used OPKs and a period tracker app that showed estimated ovulation dates. My first pregnancy and the two successful ones we only dtd once that month. First 3 resulted in miscarriage and I was diagnosed with APS, a clotting disorder. Pregnancies after that were supported with aspirin and blood thinning injections. Following my last miscarriage I had progesterone added and baby is 6 weeks old. Good luck x

Remaker · 16/08/2023 05:22

I started trying at 37, it took 9 months. Second baby was conceived at first attempt when DC1 was 9 months old and I was 39.

Memam · 16/08/2023 05:22

I first TTC at 43 and it took 5 months to get a BFP. The first few months I was using ovulation strips and an app and it was disheartening seeing the negatives every month. Those first few months were stressful, timed and my partner felt a lot of pressure to perform on the days I was supposedly ovulating. The month we conceived we were trying every 3 days and that's what did it. I think the apps and strips were getting it wrong for me personally.

It’s my experience which is what the OP asked for.

Conceiving was the easy part, the pregnancy and births most certainly were not, but that is another story.

Goldencup · 16/08/2023 06:47

There is only one way to find out.

Wotwotwotwotwot · 16/08/2023 06:49

Had DD at 37 after 2 years of trying. Got pregnant after 3 months of trying for number 2 at 38, I sadly miscarried and got pregnant with DS 9 months later

Immoralplant · 16/08/2023 07:02

DS was born when I was 46, took two months.

When I was trying to conceive I read there is evidence that 10% of women have genes that mean they are still fertile in their late 40’s. This is also correlated with longevity- if you have a child after 45 (conceived naturally) you are much more likely to live to 100.

EmmaOvary · 16/08/2023 07:11

2 months to conceive DS1 at 39. 12
months to conceive DS2 at 42 after a miscarriage (4 months to conceive that one)

thatsn0tmyname · 16/08/2023 07:19

I conceived at 37 and 39, both times it was first time. Very fortunate.

TrudyProud · 16/08/2023 07:20

I conceived DD1 at 34 cycle#1
Conceived DD2 cycle#1 at 36. Will give birth at 37.

I'm still breastfeeding a 16 month old.

ChristinesQueen · 16/08/2023 07:36

First easily conceived at 32, took about 3 months of actively trying.. unfortunately 2nd took 11 years. Actively trying from age 34/35. Had a decade of investigations, specialists and tens out thousands of pounds on multiple IVF cycles.
