Letrozole first cycle

Hi ladies,

I’m due to start taking letrozole next cycle for the first time, just waiting for my period to start. I’ve got some spotting so reckon it will be in the next couple of days.

I wanted to see if anyone else is at a similar stage and wants to join me on the journey? Or if you’re already taking it I’d love to hear your experiences!

I’ve been reading all about the side effects so I’m a little anxious, but generally just excited to give it a try! My cycles are very irregular, and although I always get a peak OPK recently this hasn’t happened until around CD32, so I have a lot of waiting to do! Really hope the letrozole speeds things up 🤞

@AnnieStar12 ah sorry to hear, I know what it feels like. This was our second round of 5mg so I am going to take this next cycle off. Spoke to my Doctor today and she suggested the break and said we would get back to 5mg again after the one month. I’ll just try naturally next month without any expectations, let’s see !

AnnieStar12 · 06/10/2023 14:59

@Daisywillow17 i think that’s probably about right. Were the clinic happy? I think mine were around 13mm on my first scan (CD7) and there will be variation as we’ll have different cycle lengths. The important thing is they keeping growing to full size. Good luck!

@Ellierose666 are those all from the same time of day? Weird that those show a peak but it’s not showing on the digital!

@bstrong0805 that sounds sensible, it’s a mental toll going through this, so a break makes sense before jumping straight into third in a row.

I just had a very visible light bleed so I’m either about to start AF today which would be super early, or that was an implantation bleed - I’ve never bled inbetween Periods before. Argh, who knows what it all means! Just want to know either way now.

Would you say it defo is peak? I couldn’t tell or not!

AnnieStar12 · 06/10/2023 17:43

@Ellierose666 do you use the Premom app that goes with those tests? It’s really helpful to catch the peak.

AnnieStar12 · 06/10/2023 21:39

Turns out that spotting was AF - it started this afternoon so that means this round has failed for me :( At least it came 4/5 days early to put me out of my misery. Feeling gutted.

I'm going straight on to round two...

bstrong0805 · 07/10/2023 08:40

@AnnieStar12 same here AF last night for me too. Taking a break from IUI next round but continuing with the leteozole as it regulates and brings my cycle now from 35 days to about 28-30 days. But won’t monitor with scans etc this cycle, will just go naturally and see what to do next cycle.
@Daisywillow17 that seems about right for the day yoh did the scan. All the best !

Lovemusic2015 · 09/10/2023 21:41

Hi ladies sorry to hear the periods have made an appearance. I can’t say it enough - This journey is so tough & unless you’re going through I don’t think people get the disappointment. I used to take some time each month & plan a little treat for myself to get me through the hunp benit wine, lunch with friends, a beauty treatment etc before focusing again on the month ahead.

All confirmed for me at the doctors today & have made it to 5 weeks. Scan planned with the clinic @ 8 and half weeks so just focusing on getting that far. Feels very real now today like maybe it’s actually happening :)

AnnieStar12 · 10/10/2023 12:00

@Lovemusic2015 congratulations, so good to know it can work! Was this round 2 for you? And how many mature follicles did you have?

You're right, I don't think I had any idea before now how gruesome and draining this process of not conceiving is...

Daisywillow17 · 10/10/2023 14:17

Little update on me, just had a scan on CD13, one follicle measuring 16.1mm so just big enough, nurse thinks i’ll ovulate in the next couple of days, she said to start intercourse tomorrow then every other day. Having a blood test next Wednesday to confirm ovulation. Fingers crossed!

Daisywillow17 · 12/10/2023 14:57

When have you all ovulated during a Letrozole cycle? The nurse said that I’ve got a good sized follicle, I’ve had lots of ewcm but all OPK’s have been negative. I’m on CD15 at the moment.

graceinc22 · 12/10/2023 16:18

@Daisywillow17 i was on 3 cycles and ovulated each time (got pregnant the third cycle but sadly ended in miscarriage). It was first day around cd14, second around cd16, third cd18 BUT no positive opk (I worked out the dates from my bbt) - given this was the cycle I got pregnant, not having a positive opk didn’t seem to affect things! :)

Ellierose666 · 12/10/2023 18:08

Hi lovely,

I had 3 follicles at my scan at around 14mm and then ovulated a couple of days later- although my opks and bbt don’t match, so not 100% when I did. X

Lovemusic2015 · 12/10/2023 18:22

@AnnieStar12 yes it was my second round of Letrozole plus trigger plus progesterone pessaries.

I had 3 mature follicles this cycle. 20mm, 17mm and the other was 16.something (almost 17mm).

@Daisywillow17 i ovulated around day 13 / 14 on both cycles but that’s because my day 12 scan showed big follicles & then I used a trigger shot. They had said I would’ve ovulated shortly anyway although as (maybe) have pcos, used a trigger to ensure ovulation.

AnnieStar12 · 12/10/2023 18:43

@Ellierose666 so you’re now in the TWW? Good luck!

@Lovemusic2015 good to know it worked second time and with 3 follicles. Do you know yet if you’ve got one baby or more in there?

@Daisywillow17 last month I ovulated around day 13/14. That’s normal for me, I have regular cycles.

I’ve just finished taking second round of Letrozole. Have my monitoring scan tomorrow which will be CD8 to see what’s happened with the follicles.

Daisywillow17 · 13/10/2023 06:55

Thank you for your responses!

@AnnieStar12 I hope you scan goes well.

I’m on CD16 with no positive OPK yet, I’ve been having loads of EWCM for the last 4 days so hoping it will happen soon. Might have to see if they will offer me the trigger next time.

ceruleansky · 13/10/2023 20:41

Hello everyone.
I'm 32, ttc #1, have had PCOS since I was 13 but completely normal hormone levels, no thyroid. Only irregular periods.

I've been prescribed Letrozole 5mg per day. Clomid didn't work well for me.

Does anyone have any advice to help with making the treatment the most effective? I only have 2 cycles of this so I really want it to work.
Anything helps, thank you

Lovemusic2015 · 15/10/2023 07:53

@AnnieStar12 I’m not going to do a scan until 8 & half weeks, I just think if I went for one now, I’d want another then anyway as I’d still be anxious - it’s a long time until 12/13 weeks to feel ‘safer’. I’m private so pay per scan do makes sense to me to wait. So no idea if it’s one or two in there!!

@Daisywillow17 hopefully you got your positive since? Have you pcos? During this fertility journey I was told I had it so they did tell me not to focus on the ovulation
sticks as they may not be reliable. That’s why I was so glad to be given the trigger on my two medicated cycle as meant definitely knew I ovulated & when.

@ceruleansky welcome & the very best of luck to you 🤞🏻I think the first month will tell all as everyone’s body responds differently to the meds so they told me round one is like a trial & you can adjust thereafter. The only thing different for me was work was less stressful (by chance) everything else was the same I’ve been doing for months e.g. supplements, exercise, holistic treatments - Friday night glass (or 2) of wine. My clinic told me no need for anything extreme.

Daisywillow17 · 15/10/2023 08:19

@Lovemusic2015 Funnily enough, I got the strongest positive I’ve ever had on an ovulation test this morning. I’m CD18 today so took a bit longer than what I thought but finally got there. Keeping an eye out for ovulation pain and a temp rise now. I’ve been having sooo much EWCM the last few days too. So all good signs. I’m booked in for a blood test Wednesday to see if I did actually ovulate. Not sure if I need to push that back though if I’m now only about to ovulate. Yeah, I have got PCOS. Extremely high AMH. I think I have the “lean” version as my bmi is only 20. How are you getting on? Looking forward to hearing how you get on with your scan when you have it! I wonder if there’s one or two little ones in there!! How many cycles did it take for you to work? (Sorry if I’ve asked this before!).

@ceruleansky hello and welcome, I’m sorry to hear that the clomid hasn’t worked for you. Apparently Letrozole is much better for PCOS. Make sure you take the medication at the same time every day (I’ve heard this makes it more effective). Have you been put on provera to induce a period or are you waiting for one to show? Are you getting monitored this cycle? I had scan on day 9 and 13.

AnnieStar12 · 15/10/2023 09:30

Hi all,
I had my scan on Friday - 3 follicles this month but one is dominant. Next scan on Tuesday to monitor growth, and then just wait for ovulation which should be middle of next week. Hopefully we’ll be second time lucky!

ceruleansky · 15/10/2023 12:17

@Lovemusic2015
Thank you!! I'll try to stay stress free and active. That's been my main goal throughout my treatment. How has the treatment been for you? Any side effects?

@Daisywillow17
Hello! Yes I'm hoping it works out. Yes, I'm currently on progesterone pills to bring the flow on. I had a scan done on day 12, 14 and 16. This was my third clomid cycle. I only ovulated on cycle 2 but didn't get pregnant. How has the experience been for you? Do you have several cycles of this?

Daisywillow17 · 15/10/2023 13:39

@AnnieStar12 really good to hear that you’ve got one dominant follicle, fingers crossed this cycle will be the one!

@ceruleansky fingers crossed Letrozole will work better than clomid for you! I’m currently on my first round of Letrozole, been TTC for a year but no periods at all since coming off the pill. Had provera to induce a period and I think I’m currently ovulating for the first time since TTC (lots of EWCM and positive OPK). Can’t believe I was so naive when I started this TTC journey thinking I could get pregnant without periods. I’ve learnt so much in these last few months about how conception actually works, could lecture on it now haha!

Been told to BD every other day! I have a blood test this week to confirm ovulation.

ceruleansky · 15/10/2023 19:14

@Daisywillow17
Oh it's your first round too, it'll be interesting to share this journey together! Hope this drug works out for us. 🤞
No period for a year!! That's tough.. I'm glad it's regulating now and things are looking up. Looks like you ovulated. It sounds promising!

I totally get it, I've been googling everything under the sun about conception..

I hope you have a bfp soon!!

Lovemusic2015 · 16/10/2023 06:10

@Daisywillow17 thsts brilliant about your positive. All sounds very promising. I did 2 rounds & both times lots of ewcm & strong line on ovulation sticks. I didn’t keep testing as was using the trigger - but I was curious. I have high-ish Amh plus irregular cycles hence why they told me mild pcos. The way they exoldubed to me due to extra eggs, I’m not always producing good quality eggs every month. With letrozole more follicles stimulated = more chances. Ivf with egg testing had been suggested next for me so I’m so glad (so far) that this appears to have worked for me. 6 weeks tomorrow.

@AnnieStar12 3 follicles with one dominant sounds great, plenty time for them to grow too. Hopefully this is your month 🤞🏻

@ceruleansky yeah I was very tired between all, bit headaches & crampy. That was a mix of letrozole & progesterone I think. Definitely wasn’t myself. Hopefully this is the drug for you & works better than clomid 🤞🏻

Daisywillow17 · 17/10/2023 06:27

Hey everyone, I’m 1DPO today after my first round of Letrozole! I have a feeling this TWW is going to be long!

how’s everyone getting on?

ceruleansky · 17/10/2023 09:33

@Lovemusic2015
I read that you're 6 weeks!! Congratulations!!!

@Daisywillow17
Good luck to you!! How are you feeling?
