Thank you @SarahShorty .

It's funny how there's always been the myth that the woman's health is more important but sperm degrades with age and isn't as good quality so can lead to issues.

SarahShorty · 25/07/2023 13:01

@DopeyS well, it's more that egg quality and reserve diminish from about 40. Women are born with all the eggs they'll ever have, hence why the chances of IVF being successful for women aged 40 is roughly 10%. Beyond 40 it's about 2-5%. That's not to say that women can't have babies in their 40s, it's just a hell of a lot harder. Men produce sperm well into their 80s although obviously very few of them will be good enough quality to make a baby.

KG96 · 25/07/2023 13:58

@SarahShorty ah I see, all standard stuff then to be fair

Absolutely but interesting to see the results when changes were made to lifestyle. Also caffeine.

Also we are way more clued up than most people remember xx

KG96 · 25/07/2023 15:17

I’m definitely getting scan anxiety now 😥 2 days till my 9 week scan, just hoping everything is still ok

CR7 · 25/07/2023 15:22

@KG96 scanxiety totally normal x

TheBirdintheCave · 25/07/2023 15:28

@KG96 I remember that feeling. I was literally sobbing before my scan with my son. I couldn't speak to the sonographer, my husband had to talk for me 😂 I hope everything is ok with your scan ❤

SarahShorty · 25/07/2023 20:24

Spotting has begun, so that's me out again. Despite knowing it was unlikely to work, I still had an itsy-bitsy amount of hope that it might. Now all dashed. My DH is clutching at straws saying that it could be implantation bleeding as it's normal at 12DPO. None of this would hit so hard if I at least had a child already, because then I'd know it's possible. Next month will mark 1.5 years of trying, both naturally and via IVF. Every positive HCG test I've had (just 3 of them) have been so faint and ended up being chemicals. It's not fair.

CR7 · 25/07/2023 20:51

@SarahShorty I'm so sorry if that is the case 😪

TheBirdintheCave · 25/07/2023 22:25

@SarahShorty I'm so sorry :(

OTD for me and the line is half as dark again as two days ago basically back to the same shade as our first positive at 5dp5dt. I'm SO cross that we have to report it to the clinic as they've threatened to make me go all the way into London for a blood test. I will get my husband to fight with them though as I think that's grossly unfair.

I'm sad. So far all of the people on the July FET thread I was on have got strong positives. Why do I have to be the one with the chemical? 😭 I am happy for them of course but when is it my turn? Will I ever get pregnant and get to keep it again?

What did the clinic say?

The other thread you're on must be a miracle thread. Over the years I've been on loads of threads and sadly there are way more negatives than positives on each. It's such a hard journey x

TheBirdintheCave · 26/07/2023 06:39

@CR7 Yeah statistically I thought it was odd too 😂

We offered the clinic a compromise. Instead of me travelling in an hour for blood tests I proposed that I just keep taking the progesterone until my tests are negative. They said yes to this and to test again on Friday.

DopeyS · 26/07/2023 07:26

So sorry @SarahShorty . It's such a hard process. I find it so hard seeing people posting baby news on Facebook. I try to be happy for people but sometimes it just feels hard to stay positive through everything.

SarahShorty · 26/07/2023 07:59

@CR7 @TheBirdintheCave @DopeyS thanks all xx BBT dropped this morning, so I can confirm it's definitely not worked.

DH is having his own pity party because of his low sperm count. "I'm sorry I don't have enough sperm to get you pregnant." It breaks my heart.

Pregnancy announcements, baby bumps and talk of kids at work is getting us down as we just can't relate. DH can compartmentalise more, but I wear my heart on my sleave and the pain shows. We're just forgotten about, until something work-related comes up and they haven't got a clue how to do their jobs, only then are we suddenly relevant.

We made a deal with each other that we'll continue to try all the time I have periods, even after if/when we get our lot. Just keep trying, it's all we can do.

DopeyS · 26/07/2023 08:24

We've never tried naturally as we have two different factors to not being able to have kids. I'm feeling really hopeless yesterday and today. The odds have just been rubbish from the start. I definitely put things out of my mind and try not to let it effect me. It's hard though and just feels like such a crap journey.

charja100 · 27/07/2023 08:56

Morning everyone, hope everyone's okay today.

Today was OTD for me.. as expected it was another BFN. I'm not feeling great obviously and calling the clinic to tell them was weird. Now waiting for an apt with my consultant. Apparently there's nothing in her diary for 2 weeks, they're going to call me back sometime in the next 48 hours. At least I can stop jabbing and inserting objects into myself fir a little while at least.

@TheBirdintheCave I'm so so sorry to hear your news. I was so hopeful for you that this was your time.

@RunningOnHope I'm sorry it hasn't worked for you either

@Triselly we have one more in the freezer, so I'm hopeful it'll be third time lucky. That's got to be a challenge with your cycle being unpredictable, hopefully it settles down for you soon. It sounds a good plan to enjoy the summer. I go on holiday next Friday and I'm so glad I timed it for after the TWW. It will be good to escape and reset and spend some quality time with DH.

TheBirdintheCave · 27/07/2023 09:01

@charja100 I'm sorry, Char :( Where are you going on holiday?

CR7 · 27/07/2023 09:04

Sending love to you all xx

SarahShorty · 28/07/2023 11:21

AF hit with a vengeance today. ARGH! Onwards to another go.

TheBirdintheCave · 28/07/2023 11:37

@SarahShorty Sorry Sarah :( I hope it's not too painful for you. I've stopped the progesterone today so am expecting AF in the next few days. Joy.

SarahShorty · 28/07/2023 11:40

@TheBirdintheCave Thank you xx I'm sorry for you, too. It's all so rotten.

CR7 · 28/07/2023 11:57

How are you today @TheBirdintheCave xx we are all thinking of you

TheBirdintheCave · 28/07/2023 11:59

I'm ok :) Off to my mum and dads tomorrow so we've been busy cleaning the house and wondering how the toddler is going to handle the five hour drive this time 😅

We have our follow up consultation booked for next Thursday so hopefully we can get the ball rolling for the next transfer. We'll spend August trying naturally.

charja100 · 28/07/2023 12:19

@TheBirdintheCave I'm off to Turkey. Can't bloody wait. It'll be nice to get out and see your family this weekend.

I also stopped all my meds yesterday so just waiting for AF now too. Consultation booked in for the 16th. Hoping they don't make us wait too long for the next FET. Curious if they'll change anything this time, or try again as is with the Lubion again. I def needed it so glad they added it this cycle. With Lubion daily and cyclogest twice a day my week check up bloods after transfer showed at 36. So was definitely needed. Really makes my think my prefect hatching blast transferred fresh would have stuck if I'd had lubion from the beginning 😢

TheBirdintheCave · 28/07/2023 13:10

@charja100 I'm glad at least that the meds were keeping your progesterone topped up this time round. I hope they keep you on them for next time. I'm sorry they didn't do it the first time :(
