Conceiving after ectopic

Can anyone share their experiences of conceiving after an ectopic?

I had one last year, medical management rather than surgery and I still have both tubes, albeit they said it might cause some residual scarring on the left tube.

Been trying to get pregnant for 3 months now which I know is nothing in the grand scheme of things, but I'm going into my fertile window now and I'd love to hear some positivity from other people ❤️

I have had a healthy pregnancy before, pre-ectopic.

Hi everyone. I just wanted to join the chat as it would be great for this to become a support thread.

I had 3 early miscarriages before I got pregnant with my ectopic. The hospital treated another miscarriage so it went undiagnosed until it ruptured so I lost my tube. That was almost 2 years ago and still trying. Nearly a year was with really close tracking, but it all got too much so we have gone back to just seeing what happens, and still nothing. We will keep going for a while before deciding next steps. We fell pregnant quite quickly each time before the ectopic so I'm feeling a bit deflated. I've had the remaining tube tested and it's clear so it's just a waiting game. So lovely to hear positive stories 🥰

God I'm sorry, what a rough experience you've had. I really hope you fall pregnant soon after everything you've been through. I guess you've had all the NHS tests etc and everything looks clear, is it just one of those unexplained things?

@FingersCrossedXXX thank you, and sorry to hear about your ectopic too. I really hope this is your month!

frustratingly, my previous 3 cycles before the latest have been 31/32 days so I was getting pretty good at predicting ovulation, also had some signs. The last cycle was 39 days so it’s thrown me. I don’t know if it was stress or something that delayed ovulation last month or my cycles are lengthening (they used to be longer) but I’m hoping it was a one off. If it was, I’d be ovulating about a week today. Might sneak a couple of OPKs to check nearer the time but I don’t want to get stressed about it either. It’s hard to know what to do, but I am starting to feel like I need to do more.

I think stress could very well be a big contributor. I'm a religious OPK user (embarrassingly even when we weren't even TTC...) and I often ovulate 3-4 days later when I've had a v stressful week with work

I had two early miscarriages and an ectopic. Medically managed. Both tubes but scarring .
Then 7 or 8 months later I got pregnant. All was ok. Now I have the baby and another

That's great news! How did you know you had scarring on the tube, did the doctors say at the time?

Positive story here. My first ever pregnancy was ectopic (treated with methotrexate). I then conceived my first DC the first month I was allowed to try again. I got pregnant with my second DC when my first DC was 10 months old and she was born safely when DC1 was 19 months. I then went on to have another ectopic (again treated with methotrexate) when DC2 was 9 months old. My third DC arrived safely 2yrs and 3 months after DC2. I had a miscarriage when DC3 was 18 months old and decided to stop TTC then for my mental health. I feel so lucky to have 3 lovely DC, all born within 4 years, despite the ectopics. I wish you all the very best and hope your story has a happy ending - it definitely is possible.

I had a miscarriage followed by a ruptured ectopic eight months later, had surgery, lost a tube, had a massive cyst removed and had a blood transfusion. Six weeks later I was pregnant with DC1, when he was six months old I got pregnant with DC2. I was in my late thirties. Good luck everyone.

I had two mmc in early 2021 when TTC baby no.2, then an ectopic in September 2021 which was picked up during a reassurance scan. I was “too pregnant” and so there was no attempt at medication. I lost my tube which apparently ruptured whilst I was in surgery. I then conceived again in April 2022 but had another loss, unconnected to the ectopic.

I conceived again in August 2022 and am currently 29w pregnant. Whilst I have a history of recurrent loss I previously fell pregnant within a 2-3months of trying, so it definitely did take longer post ectopic. However I know with at least the one I conceived post ectopic I ovulated from the side where I lost my tube.

Good luck, I know this is a really hard place to be right now.

@lemonyfox thank you. I hope you have good news soon too.

Yes I’ve had the tests under the nhs, they found nothing and told us to just keep trying. I also saw a private consultant, because that didn’t sit right with me, and we had timed ovulation for a few months but still no luck. Both the private clinic and the NHS have checked my remaining tube and it’s clear, I’ve been checked for fibroids in my lining but nothing there - just a mystery. As I mentioned we fell quite quickly before the ectopic so it’s hard to go through so long of nothing. Trying to not overthink it but it’s really difficult.

it’s interesting about the stress thing. I’m really hoping it was the cause, long cycles make it all feel like a drag.

I’d just love so much to get pregnant naturally, going to keep everything crossed for some luck over the next few months! For all of us xx

@lemonyfox hope you’ve had a nice busy fertile week 😜. I think I’m going to try and track a bit, see if I can see what’s going on.

It really is so hard not to overthink, you're absolutely right.

Well annoyingly it looks like I'm ovulating 3 maybe 4 days later than usual this month so we've gone a bit to early with all the TTC and now my husband is "tired" fgs 😂 need to try and squeeze another go in the next day or two.

I buy the big packs of OPKs off Amazon, they're really cheap, no harm done in testing for a while and seeing what's going on. Fingers crossed!

@lemonyfox Haha Oh no, I am sure you can convince him to go again. It is so unsexy when you are trying to conceive though, isn't it!

I had my peak on Saturday and we DTD both Saturday and Sunday so fingers crossed it works! Now have the dreaded wait.

Positive story - I had a ruptured ectopic in April 2004. Removed an ovary and a tube and I was very unwell and lucky to pull through this.
Have since had 2 healthy children, one turns 18 this month!
I was so upset when it happened and thought that I would never have children.
Good luck to you all x

@lemonyfox 😂😂 men!! I remember saying to my OH about lots of action over fertile week. He gave it all the ‘fine by me’ smugness. Quickly wears off! It does get monotonous though. It’s been nice having a break from proper TTC to get our spark back. I’m sure I’ll wear him down again in no time 😜.
Hopefully he’s found some energy for you!

Neither of us could be bothered yesterday, scheduled sex is so unsexy 😂 especially when ovulation decides to kindly be a few days late. We'll try and squeeze one more in tonight, think ovulation will be tomorrow, then honestly that's it. If it doesn't work then on to next month!

@lemonyfox just saw your post and I have been searching all of mjmsnet for someone who has been through a MMC and an ectopic- I had my tube removed a few days ago following an ectopic, going to give it till my first period to start trying again. Really worried about conceiving again I’m turning 33 this weekend :(

@outnumbered77 did your surgeon really say that :( mine said only slightly reduced! How long did it take u to conceive again if you don’t mind me asking?

Report
outnumbered77 · 18/03/2023 17:37

@Sunflower1235 yes he did say that. Honestly made no difference for me. I had two pregnancies previous to the ectopic both conceived fairly easily. After the ectopic I conceived within a couple of months. Unfortunately that pregnancy ended in miscarriage but I conceived two more babies easily after that.

Hi, I had a ruptured ectopic after having one DC. I was told fertility was reduced to 50% but went on to have a further 3 DC, including one when I was 39 with no need for intervention. Good luck!

I fell pregnant 8 months after the ectopic with DC 3 (and I had had surgery and a horrible recovery) and then conceived DC 3 and 4 within two months of trying for each. Best of luck!

Conceived quite quickly afterwards. They removed both left tube and ovary. So there is hope for people in similar situations 🙏

Hello, so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy. They’re so scary!! I had one in 2019 and it thankfully passed naturally, so no intervention was needed. I didn’t try again for a while because I was terrified of it happening again, I’ve had 2 miscarriages previously, so felt it was only my luck that it would be another ectopic. I got pregnant again at the start of 2021 after a very short few months of “if it happens, it happens” and my baby is now 18 months old. Don’t give up and good luck 🌈
