Hi all,

So long story but.. we have been ttc for 12 months now. I usually use opk's and got positives between cycle days 14-16. This month i decided to try temping..along with opks. I got a positive opk cycle day 14 this month...but no temp rise (usually i would stop testing on opk's here prior to temping as got a os opk and would DTD as much as possible). But as i got no temp rise i continued testing and obviously dtd. I got a blazing positive on cycle day 20 when test line was double the darkness of the control line, the next day i had a big temp and now here i am on 3dpo with confirmed ovulation with increased temps.

My cycles range from 28-31 days but i have had longer. So i ovulated day 21....if this has been the case in previous months i have been timing it all wrong so hopefully this month is a lucky one.

What id like to know is if anyone has had success with late ovulations leading to bfp?

TIA

Do you have pcos? If so neither temping nor opks work. I found that out after nearly a year of testing. Would suggest that you get a full work up.

2022TTCBaby1 · 06/01/2023 11:29

@RunLolaRun102 no i dont, i have slight endometriosis but gp believes that i can conceive naturally and that it is a very mild case. I have had 21 day bloods and i do ovulate. That cycle was a 28 day one. I have an app with gyno on 26th Jan for the first of fertility help. But hoping i can say i dont need it.

@2022TTCBaby1 hi there - last month I actually conceived after ovulating around CD40 so it does happen! Sadly it ended in a chemical, but I've spoken to both GP and private gynae and neither seem concerned that long cycle is why pregnancy ended, just one of those things - and I know a friend who's had a successful pregnancy who had the same

KCT93 · 06/01/2023 11:42

@2022TTCBaby1 I ovulated on day 28 the month I conceived my DD 😊I also know I have a 12 day luteal phase, so would have technically been a 40 day cycle. My longest ever as they are usually 28-35 days. Baby dust to you x

hcopp · 06/01/2023 12:34

Joining for support - my cycles range from 33 to 48 days... 😩 Been OPKing since last Saturday with no sign of any change, now on CD20 and only a tiny bit of ewcm as a possible sign of ovulation. It's so frustrating.

2022TTCBaby1 · 06/01/2023 12:41

@log51 sorry for your loss. Its good to hear it can happen with late ovulation. Keeping fingers crossed for you.

@KCT93 ah thats good to hear! Hoping for that BFP soon!

@hcopp welcome! Its so hard isnt it. The waiting is the worst. Have you tried temping? Also, how many times a day do you test using opk's? I so twice a day ans found that my surge is usually in the evenings

With DS1 I conceived in a month where I ovulated on day 40! That cycle would have been around 55 days. I had pcos but fell pregnant naturally both times.

crazymuseummum · 06/01/2023 12:57

Hi @2022TTCBaby1 - I have a nearly-3yo already, so I'm usually up during the night, which then affects your bbt first thing in the morning. So no point in temping, sadly. I did it last time, and while it stressed me out, at least I'd know that I'd ovulated.

crazymuseummum · 06/01/2023 12:58

Sorry, I have two usernames, need to sort that out! I'm also hcopp 😅

Sabbie40 · 06/01/2023 22:50

Yes, I got my BFP a few weeks ago after ovulating on cycle day 31 so just going through the next few weeks anxiously and hoping everything will be ok! My cycles have been all over the place the last few months, ranging from 29 to 76 days. GP diagnosed me with pcos and started me on metformin. I started using the cheap opk strips at the same time, to help me track my cycle along with the premom app. I would definitely have missed ovulation without tracking with opks.

hcopp · 06/01/2023 22:57

That's really interesting @Sabbie40 ,thanks for sharing. Did you have any other symptoms of PCOS, apart from the irregular cycle? Were you always irregular?

And congratulations on your pregnancy! I will certainly be sticking with the OPKs for a few days yet!

Sabbie40 · 07/01/2023 11:59

Thank you @hcopp. Definitely, keep testing. I thought my body was just going through another funky cycle before my bfp.
I had been on the pill for a few years but I would have always had longish cycles pre my pill days but Aunt Flo always came. My cycles regulated between 29-31 days after stopping the pill but then suddenly stopped after 6 months. That prompted me to visit the GP.
Yes, I had other symptoms of pcos, facial hair, excess weight around the middle, blood tests showed high testosterone levels. GP prescribed metformin and referred me on to fertility specialist. I don’t need that appointment now!

lucya66 · 09/01/2023 09:57

Following as interested. my app predicts ovulation on CD14 but Opk testing first time this month (3rd cycle ttc) and I have not yet ovulated on CD15.

using clear blue digital and the be at home strips.

which cycle day do you ovulate?

TheBirdintheCave · 09/01/2023 10:56

I ovulate about a week later than 'normal' and have been pregnant three times. One baby and two missed miscarriages. I don't think cycle length had anything to do with the miscarriages though. The most annoying thing about it is having to repeatedly explain to medical professionals why you're not as far along as they expect you to be.

1greentea · 09/01/2023 11:16

Hi ladies,
I am on day 58!!! I had a positive opk on day 55, then it dropped, then I had another high reading yesterday?! It's the first period I've ever missed so my longest cycle to date. I'm so frustrated. GP said they can bloods on day 3 etc but not helpful until I get a period. We're just having sex every 2-3 days until I get a period or bfp. I feel like I'll be waiting forever 😪

ParentsTrapped · 10/01/2023 13:28

I ovulate late - on day 18-20 of a 30-32 day cycle. I don’t have PCOS and have had no issues conceiving. For me the EWCM was the best indicator of fertility -
I didn’t bother with OPKs or temping. As soon as the EWCM we dtd every day for a few days and worked both times we planned a baby, cycle 1 for DC1 (at 30) and cycle 3 for dc2 (at 33).

hcopp · 11/01/2023 17:22

Hallelujah!! Finally got a positive OPK on Day 25 of my cycle!! I honestly thought I'd missed it or wasn't going to ovulate.

Had a scan this afternoon to check for PCOS, and now that I've got an ovulation date I can make a guess at when Day 1 will be and book in for Day 1 bloods. Phew!

I ovulated on CD21 when I conceived my first child who is now 3.5 and bouncing around next to me. My cycles also vary in length, we DTD from CD10 do Af only way to make sure, I did use the sticks as a guide just for interest , I was never 100% with them and husband certainly didn't trust them! X

1greentea · 12/01/2023 17:54

@hcopp I still don't think that's a positive opk, I had so many that looked just like that and thought it was a positive until I got an actual positive and the whole line was a lot darker. Could be just around the corner though so keep going. I almost gave up and got one. But I keep getting positives on day 60 something so my body is just broken.

1greentea · 12/01/2023 17:59

@Sabbie40 hi, can I ask how long you were on metformin for before you ovulated/got af? All of a sudden I haven't ovulated since Oct and was regular before this, so no period since beginning of nov now. Waiting for blood results tomorrow/Monday. I have awful chin acne too. Did they offer clomid? Thanks so much, I'm so anxious and upset my body has broken 😢

Sabbie40 · 12/01/2023 22:11

Hi @1greentea, I had missed two Aunt Flos. I was stressed out, anxious and feeling like my body was broken. I just so happened to visit the GP after my last cycle in July for blood tests and hormonal checks after the 6 months of TTC and nothing happening. By the time I was getting the results, I had missed 2 cycles and was able to discus with GP.
I was on metformin for 10 days when I got a bleed, I’m not sure I’d even describe it as Aunt Flo, it was painful but great to see progress. Continued with the metformin, ate a healthier diet, next cycle came as normal 29 days, ovulated according to opk, did a happy dance I was so happy my body was working again!! I got a positive pregnancy test on the next cycle, ovulated late but I blame work stress for that. I wasn’t offered clomid but we were only 6 months into our TTC journey.
Best of luck for your results tomorrow and you get more information.

@hcopp hope your scan went well. So hard to get the cycle days correct for getting bloods done when your cycles are irregular and continuously throw a curve ball!

Darcy86 · 12/01/2023 22:16

I have slightly longer than average cycles (usually around 5-6 weeks) and generally ovulate around day 20. I have an almost 2 year old and ovulated on day 19 when I conceived him. Wishing you all the luck!

crazymuseummum · 12/01/2023 22:45

@1greentea Yes, you're completely right. I got overexcited yesterday by seeing something other than a faint line on my opk. I just took the only one I've taken today, unusually, 10pm and boom, this one's definitely positive! Right, where that DH of mine... 😅

1greentea · 13/01/2023 12:10

@Sabbie40
Oh that is so reassuring for me to hear. Did you have any symptoms of pcos? I have terrible chin acne but that's all other than 2 missed periods. I'll mention metformin to my GP next week and see what they say, everything was normal before. I've been pregnant twice before very easily so this is all very out of the ordinary for me. I keep crying cause I feel so broken and ugly with acne. Did they start you on 500mg and stay on that dose?
Thanks for taking the time to reply to me, really appreciate it.
Huge congrats on your bfp xxx

Sabbie40 · 13/01/2023 15:58

Thank you @1greentea!
that sounds similar to me. My cycles were longer but Aunt Flo regularly came until they suddenly stopped in the summer. I had facial hair which was yuck and some extra weight, the blood test results also showed up a high testosterone level. GP started me on 500g for the first two weeks and then increased it to 500g twice daily. I also researched pcos, changed my diet and cut out refined sugars and processed food at the same time.
This was our first bfp after 10 months ttc.
Hope you get sorted soon.
