I don't know if there are any threads already started but I've just officially found out I've got PCOS this morning - I've always known deep down. Please tell me it's not all bad I'm feeling very sorry for myself.
We've been TTC for 6 months - only 3 cycles. I supposedly ovulated on CD36 (now CD43) this cycle. Gynae reckons not preg cos uterus lining would've thickened. (Had a scan this morning)

Any hints/tips on treatment/TTC?
How to deal with symptoms?

How did Posh spice and Jools Oliver manage to fall preg?

Hi Fruitloop, yes, we've ttc naturally since having dd but without success, hardly surprising given that it took 12 years and ivf to have her although I do think i was briefly pregnant last summer, didn't work out. I do know lots of people with PCOS who get pregnant without going to IVF but for some of us that is what it takes. Losing weight definately helps but I find it really difficult especially trying to find that enthusiasm after living with the condition for so long. I've not got the hairyness or the acne thankfully but I do have skin tags on my face which are apparantly related to PCOS too. I don't know how old you are but I really need to go for IVF again as I am now 40 and so time is of the essence.

I found out I've got PCOS a couple of weeks ago, I'm 28 but very impatient! I've always had the hairyness [feel like a freak] and a few stubborn spots, luckily I'm not overweight but I still try to stick to GI as much as poss just to keep the weight down and it also makes me feel better/healthier. 12 years is such a long time I really admire you! DS was a surprise but I wasnt really using anything for 3 yrs before i fell pg. I'm hoping it wont take that long again this time around. The girls on here are so helpful. Attila is very knowledgable about PCOS if you need any help although after 12 years you probably know more than anyone!

I've also heard about skin tags. Someone on here mentioned it. I had two removed from my neck and I have a couple under my armpits. My GP had no idea it was related to PCOS

Hello Its so interesting reading everyones storys. Especially the ones who are getting help from their GP's. I am the very lucky mother of 2 (9 and 3). First not planned or expected!!! then it took us 6 years to conceive our other little angel! I have PCOS and OH has crap sperm!! We were lucky enough to go to BWH conception unit to be diagnosed but hated every second of it!! Had just signed up for IVF and was waiting for results of my smear test to ensure all ok when found out i was pregnant!!!! Now my overies are jingle jangling once again but know i will need some help as nearly 37 and can't afford to wait another 6 years. I am overweight (of course i blame PCOS and not the 6 packets of walkers i can eat!!)so have joined slimming world and even the gym ! So finally i get to the point of my story (hurrah, i hear you cry!) - can GP's give out clomid?? I have never even been offered metformin so would it be worth asking for that???

Hi tootired I dont think GPs generally give out Clomid as it's best to deal with a specialist. GPs dont seem to know much about PCOS, Welcome to our thread though and if you need a good old moa, moan right ahead, we're all here!

I wouldnt blame you for moaning at all. I'm lucky to have one nd I still whinge a lot! Everyone's got a right to have as many babies as they like. We ll have our own story

hello there!

i was diagnosed with PCOS in Novemeber and was truly gutted. My doctor was pretty unsympathetic and told me nothing could be done until a year ater even though I had bee TTC for 8 months sice coming off the pill. Well.....I ent to see a different doctor lastm onths nd she has refeed me. I've only had one AF since coming off the pill, and this was 4 months after stopping the pill. I've had nothing since, so ma not ovulating at all!

Last night I had this weird brown mark on my underwear, and lots of CM (sorry TMI!) and now im all confused as i have no AF symptoms or pains.

spots- yes, i used to have beautiful skin and now at 32 look like kevin the teenager, its so depressing. My weight has piled on rapidlly, ive gone for being 5ft and 7st 6 to 9st!!!! I am excercising like mad and trying my best to eat healthily but its hard.

Ah littlelady totally understand. It is such a blow even if you suspect pcos anyway. To be 'officially' told is devastating to say the least.
I also had blood streaks/spotting for about three days a few days ago. Also no AF symptoms. I cant say I've ever noticed this before. I think it's PCOS messing with us unfortunately. Just keep BDing every other day if you can manage it. Gotta catch that egg. It's just such a shame that the best way to control all the pcos symptoms is the contraceptive pill!

i know -gutting. I was put on it at 16 for irregular periods! If they had investigated back then I would have started trying earlier. dopey docs.

I'm trying sooo hard to be positive, and Dh is a dream, hes so supportive, but I work with children, and also 12 (yes-get this 12!!!) of my friends are pregnant.

God you sund just like me! I was put on the pill at 16 for irregular periods! I also work with children I'm a childminder) and nearly all my friends are pg. Feel's like a kick in the stomach

Hello

would anyone mind if i joined in your thread? im not ttc just now, but iam being investigated for gyno probs - with my money being on pcos, and this was hinted at me today as well. however have nothing concrete. i was wondering if anyone would mind telling me how they were diagnosed? i have had2 miscarriages in the past (the most recent one was 2 years ago in november)

im going to make myself a cup of tea and have a good look through this thread.

Well Fruitloop I don't think you have a very clever Doctor, I think he might have left his brain at medical school .

My GP does prescribe Clomid. She is very clued up on PCOS. However, my GP is making me loose weight with Metformin first, which she prescribed in October 2007. Not all GP' are crap. However, if your GP refuses to help you are well within your rights to ask for a referral to somone who can help, e.g. gyneocologist, endocrinologist etc.

When AF comes after a long time, or you have a irregular period then 'brown marks' are the norm. However if you are concerned and/or it turns into clots then see a doctor.

I have been trying for my second LO since October 2006.

Hi Moonlit. Wish i had your doc!! But am now inspired to go along to GP when i have done my first Slimming World weigh in to show i am doing something and see how she can help me. Hosp wouldn't even consider clomid last time as both OH and I had problems but surely its better that going straight for IVF? Best of luck with your clomid. How are you getting on? xx
