I don't know if there are any threads already started but I've just officially found out I've got PCOS this morning - I've always known deep down. Please tell me it's not all bad I'm feeling very sorry for myself.
We've been TTC for 6 months - only 3 cycles. I supposedly ovulated on CD36 (now CD43) this cycle. Gynae reckons not preg cos uterus lining would've thickened. (Had a scan this morning)

Any hints/tips on treatment/TTC?
How to deal with symptoms?

How did Posh spice and Jools Oliver manage to fall preg?

Hi - this thread is a little out of date. We've got some more information on PCOS here. MNHQ

Hi JandB

Glad you are feeeling cheerier (is that a word!?) and your DS had a good time at school. Even better than you got time to yourself. Hooe you really enjoyed it!

Things are good. Am on first month of TTC now. Waiting to test at the end of this week but I dont think it will be a BFP. Am quite down about it today as I am thinking it might be a long road.

Metformin was/ is great for giving me regular cycles..issue was I went on hols for a week and left it at home. So hope its not impacting things too much....

Time is ticking. Will keep you posted!

Hope smear goes ok and doctor is helpful re long cycle.

Take care

Is it just me...or is it REALLY INSENSITIVE having this bloody Pampers advert on the screen with a cute gurggling baby!

ARRRGHHH take it away!

GYo · 08/07/2008 09:01

Hi Dungun girl

You are right, I hadnt seen that! Since TTC I've noticed so many more pregnant women, baby ads, pregnancy test kits. Its crazy.

DungunGirl · 09/07/2008 08:58

HELLO LADIES

QUESTION TIME again afraid.

Was wondering,...the ladies that are being seen by an endo for your PCOS...

How severe PCOS do you have to have to be referred to an endo?

I have booked an appoitnment with my favourite GP on the 21st July and want to sweet talk him into refering me to the PCOS clinic and the endo there.

I have had my PCOS confirmed while at the fertility unit, however the only symptoms i have are:

1- Overweight
2- Slightly thinning hair ( I think! )
3-Subfertility

Do you think there are enough reasons for him to refer me? After all I called the PCOS clinic and they said that they refer ladies to the subfertilty unit if they are trying to get pregnant...YET....the subfertility clinic does not prescribe Metformin, ONLY the PCOS clinic does. AND the PCOS clinic does not prescribe Clomid, ONLY the subfertility unit does!!!!

What do you all think?

Moonlit · 09/07/2008 15:37

Hi DungunGirl,

I feel so frustrated for you. Why the hell can't the PCOS clinic prescribe you Clomid. Stupid people! Clomid is a commonly given to PCOS sufferers who are having issues with fertility .BUT that's of course if they are suitable candidates!!!

I definitely think you need metformin. Can't you twist your GP's arm. My GP gave it to me straight away. But she wouldn't give me the Clomid, she said the fertility unit would have to prescribe it if I was a 'suitable candidate'. Makes me so angry!!!

Anyway don't give up. You have come so far and you are a great source of motivation for me to .

Well I have found a good specialist. HSG will be 70 quid and IUI with clomid and an ultrasound will be 450 quid. She has a high success rate. Anyway in the meantime i have started exercising, I have fast walked and jogged 5 miles over the last two days.

The things we have to do!!!!

cupcakeandtea · 09/07/2008 16:29

There?s so much misinformation out there, it?s frightening. For instance my GP told me to stop taking Metformin as soon I?m pregnant, yet my gynae said I could keep taking it as it?s been shown to drastically reduce miscarriage in PCOS sufferers. Obviously I?m going to take the advice of my gynae but it?s so confusing.

Moonlit · 09/07/2008 19:49

Hi cupcakeandtea,

My GP also told me to stop taking Metformin if I get pregnant. But I have noticed from my research here in the US, that women are recommended to continue taking metformin also.

GYo · 10/07/2008 08:51

HI Everyone

DungunGirl its seems that nothing is the same. Seems to be dependend on your local authority. If I were you, I'd push for referal to both clinics and then see if you can get the two consultants to talk to each other about your needs.

My GP wouldnt prescribe Metformin so he refered me to a gynae - even though I thought it should have been Endo. Gynae was great and has been nothing but helpful (first doctor I've ever had faith in)

Good luck with the exercise moonlit!

Re taking metformin in pregnancy- my GP (not the one that wouldnt prescribe the met) said I should keep taking metformin til 12wks.

FruitynNutty · 10/07/2008 20:10

Hi girls

This thread keeps disappearing off my "Threads I'm on" list, not sure why

I just wondered something;

I gave up temping for about a week, I've been temping again since Monday and have had high temps since (possible ovulation, but obviously not guaranteed with PCOS)
I know temping is a really bad idea for PCOS but I just wondered about mid/late cycle spotting? (TMI...) On Tuesday and Weds I thought I had the start of AF (finally) but it was extremely light (more spotting) and it was brown. My temp's have remained high.
Is mid cycle/ovulation spotting quite common with PCOS because I've not really had it before (not that I've noticed)
For anyone who knows anything about temping

How is everyone? Sorry I haven't been about, been trying to take it easy with all this TTC malarky

FruitynNutty · 10/07/2008 20:11

Oh yeah, the spotting had completely stopped now

FruitynNutty · 11/07/2008 13:24

So, that spotting I was on about.........

Turns out it was implanation spotting got a faint BFP this morning
Up yours PCOS

Now what do I do about my scan on the 28th? Should I keep it just in case the beany doesnt stick. What if it does? Can they do any harm prodding around in there? I could act all innocent and pretend I didn't know if it gets me an early scan pic Or I could do the right thing and cancel so someone else can have the appointment........................

GYo · 11/07/2008 14:11

Hi FnN- congratulations for your BFP - up yours to PCOS indeed...

Can you work out your due date?

I also got a BFP today - I am in complete shock since I thought it would never happen due to the PCOS.

Just goes to show- Metformin works wonders !

Just have to hope it sticks now!

FruitynNutty · 11/07/2008 14:20

oh my gaaawwwwwd!!!! Two BFP's in one dy for PCOSians!!!! That is fantastic!

I'm sticking tw fingers up to PCOS for the both of us!!!
Huge congratulations GYo

FruitynNutty · 11/07/2008 14:21

nope can't work out my due date. I'm on CD58 and there's no way I'm 58 days preg! Gonna need a dating scan. You?

GYo · 11/07/2008 14:36

I think its mid March based on the last CD1. But my cycle was long one this month, ov was delayed slightly.- so who knows really. Hopeing for dating scan just for re-assurance really.
Triumph for PCOSers everywhere

Congrats again

FruitynNutty · 11/07/2008 14:45

I've counted back 4 weeks from a rough estimate of ovulation. I reckon I'm around 22nd March if it sticks. My line was very faint

AttilaTheMeerkat · 11/07/2008 14:50

Fruity and GYo

My Congratulations to you both!!.

Fruity - with regards to your forthcoming scan I'd phone them and see what they suggest you do. They may decide to put your scan back a little. I was actually given an internal u/s scan at 4 weeks gestation.

Do keep us posted.

With best wishes

Attila

FruitynNutty · 11/07/2008 15:08

DungunGirl · 11/07/2008 16:32

Oh Gawd....just had a horrible thought...

I just pictured me being the last one left in future when everyone has had their clomid/metformin work and are all barefoot and pregnant....

ohhhhh noooooo

Don't leave me guys!!!

FruitynNutty · 11/07/2008 17:29

Awwwww Dungun I really feel your pain I used to feel a bit lonely sometimes when others got BFP's. I know you've probably heard this before (And so have I [groan]) but your time will come, you mark my words!
Anyway I'm not going anywhere ladies

Moonlit · 11/07/2008 23:29
