I don't know if there are any threads already started but I've just officially found out I've got PCOS this morning - I've always known deep down. Please tell me it's not all bad I'm feeling very sorry for myself.
We've been TTC for 6 months - only 3 cycles. I supposedly ovulated on CD36 (now CD43) this cycle. Gynae reckons not preg cos uterus lining would've thickened. (Had a scan this morning)

Any hints/tips on treatment/TTC?
How to deal with symptoms?

How did Posh spice and Jools Oliver manage to fall preg?

---------------------

Hi - this thread is a little out of date. We've got some more information on PCOS here. MNHQ

Oh I have seriously fallen off the GI wagon I'm having real trouble getting back on! I was doing really well today then buckled when I gave the kids left over lasagna for lunch and I finished it off (there was a lot left!) I was doing really well before Easter. Why does fatty food taste so bloody yummy?!!! Why does chocolate take me over? I'm still not overweight but have now got that overhang muffin top which has appeared since the weekend . I've tried telling myself that I'm just making PCOS worse but it doesnt seem to work. At this rate I'll be the size of a house in no time!
Pull yourself together Fruity! Do you want a baby? or a bar of Galaxy? What? right now? ummmmmmmmmmm.............................................................

Moonlit · 28/03/2008 16:35

Hi Fruity - I haven't given up hope yet I fell off the GI wagon ages ago. I think you have done well to get this far.

Atilla - I just had my blood test results back. They are all normal. I am totally confused. What else can cause leakage from breasts. Should I make a follow up appointment with my GP?

fruitloopwants79eastereggs · 28/03/2008 17:47

How frustrating Moonlit did you find out what the actual results were? as in figures? I also had a blood test before I found out I had PCOS for ovulatory functon and testosterone and my results were "normal"(What? with my beard!!!) and I still haven't found out what the actual results were! I would go back to your GP or another one and ask them what they deem as "normal"

Right, low GI today, so far so good. But I've eaten tonnes of fruit in an attempt to stave off hunger! mega bloated tummy now and just in time for DP to get home too

I feel like I need a G&T after yesterday's shenanigans with the dodgy test! It was so weird cos there was the rational Fruity saying "Of course it's a dud test, there's absolutely no way in this time of your cycle and after progesterone that you re preg" and the other crazy loopy mad woman Fruity saying "Oh my god! Oh my god! Oh my god!" I could barely sleep I was so excited about re-testing this morning, it must have taken me about 2 hours to get to sleep then I woke at 5.50am and did my temp 20mins early so I could get up to test! Silly girl! You would've thought I would've learned by now! hahaha. I've posted the pic of the test on my profile if you wanna see what a dud test looks like

So, I think AF could be on her way now cos I've got mega (TMI) CM which I think is an AF sign? and I'm still getting mild AF type niggles. Just been looking at charts on FF with similar probs to me and some women didnt get AF till 14 days after progesterone tablets! I was told 10 by the Gynae.

We'll see........................................

AttilaTheMeerkat · 29/03/2008 07:27

Moonlit,

What levels were tested and what numbers were you given?.

I would ask these people to explain the levels to you properly. It is certainly not unknown for instance for blood test results to be misinterpreted. Prolactin excess is a common cause of breast leakage and this also interferes with ovulation.

Cannot recall if you under the care of a gynae cons but you ought to be if this is not already happening.

Moonlit · 30/03/2008 10:46

Hi Attila,

THe receptionist on the phone said the results had been actioned as normal. I think i will go into the surgery tomorrow and get my results. I am not under the care of a gynae, because my GP says I am trying to conceive a second child, so I am looked at less favorably. So she is hesitant to refer me. I have been told to wait until June to get any help.

It's so frustrating.

fruitloopwants79eastereggs · 31/03/2008 15:06

Hi guys

Well, as some of you know, my epic cycle came to an end on Saturday [phew emoticon]. So I went for my blood test this morning and get my results back tomorrow! I know I'll have no idea what the results will mean so this is where you Attila will come in handy

I was supposed to book my HSG scan on CD1 but but I didn't actually get full blown AF till Sat afternoon which would've been too late to call the X-ray dept and I think they're closed Sunday. Anyway I phoned just now and have been booked in for this Friday!!!! I cant believe how soon I've got it! I suppose they need to do it pretty soon after AF for some reason Which means that I have to refrain from unprotected Bding from now till Friday - Easy peasy! Only thing is, I'm gonna have to take my antibiotics 2 days before (no prob) but I have to stick a suppository where the sun dont shine the night before . I had a look at it and it's absolutely huge. It's like a flipping tampon! It's gonna take me ages to pluck up the courage!

Moonlit how long have you been TTC so far? I've only been for 7-8 months and have a DS. Maybe you should get a 2nd opinion?

Moonlit · 31/03/2008 16:33

Hi Fruity - How are you hun? Glad to hear AF finally turned up. At least now you can plan the next BD agenda. You seem to be very lucky where you live. You always seem to get your appointments quickly. Let us know how the HSG goes. I am going to demand one soon

Ok I plucked up the courage to call the surgery and ask for my results. But she only gave some of them, because that's all they had apparently. But I know I had way more.

Anyway here are the values which were taken CD 14

Testosterone 1.89
Prolactin 214
FSH 3.3

What the hell happened to my LH and thyroid results god knows.

Attila any ideas?

Moonlit · 31/03/2008 19:14

Hi Fruity - I forgot to mention we have been trying since October 2006 for our 2nd. DD is now 2 years old. I feel as if my GP doesn't want to help because I already have a DC. i have been very patient. But now I am getting annoyed. She told me to come back in June. But I am going to give it one more month, and then i am going back to kick some backsides!!!!!

supersteph · 31/03/2008 21:07

Hello all, I have been on clomid for 2 months now with no sucsess. I have been told to start metformin and then when AF arrives to take clomid 100mg days 2 - 6 any info or sucsess stories on taking these meds together? xx

AttilaTheMeerkat · 31/03/2008 22:18

Hi Fruitloop

Your prolactin level is much higher than it should be (it should be less than 24). Some women with PCOS also have prolactin excess as well.

Will write again soon as on my hols

Attila x

fruitloopwants79eastereggs · 01/04/2008 09:09

Oh Moonlit!!! That's terrible, Change your GP woman! That's a terribly long time to be kept waiting. That means you wont have been seen for a year and 9 months by July!

If you have PCOS then you need help immediately. I think you need to kick some ass ASAP! It doesn't matter if you already have a DC. The need for a 2nd, 3rd, 4th DC etc is just as strong as the need for a 1st. I think your GP is being highly insensitive.

Good luck! xx

I'm going to call the hospital in a bit to get my blood test results.................

DungunGirl · 01/04/2008 11:57

Hi ladies

Sorry to have been so absent over the last couple of weeks . Will need to get up to speed again.

Back to my mad exercise regime and low Gi diet next week as...

I suffered a complete miscarriage over the weekend, the EPU did all the scans/tests/cleanup yesterday so it is official. I was 6 weeks and 2 days when it happened.

I am trying to pick myself up again. With my PCOS making it so hard to conceive, I shouldn't have got so happy so soon....maybe in another 14 months I will be back on an EDD thread. Keeping fingers and toes crossed it won't be so long the next time round....

The sonographer said that it looked like to her that my PCOS meant that for some weird reason even though I managed to ovulate that cycle, that the egg was small and therefore we can only assume it was not the most viable.

I hate this damn PCOS!

fruitloopwants79eastereggs · 01/04/2008 13:43

Oh Dungun I'm so so sorry . Has this happened to you before?
Here are some {{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{big hugs}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}} I wish I could give you a real life squeeze
Are you coping ok?

Moonlit · 01/04/2008 15:06

DungunGirl - I am so sorry my darling. I can't imagine how you are feeling right now. We are hear if you want to chat.

BIg hugs and kisses xxxxxxxxxxx

Moonlit · 01/04/2008 21:03

Hi Fruity - My GP is a 30 something who doesn't have children and doesn't want any. Maybe that's why she is being insensitive. God knows!

I really think something is wrong, otherwise why can't I get pregnant!!! Ok I know the PCOS is the major factor but still. I am going to be brave and make an appointment with my GP tomorrow.

Hey Attila - Thank you for replying whilst you are on holiday. I really appreciate it. I hope you and your family are having a fab time. I will pick your brains when you get back.

DungunGirl - How are you darling?

Supersteph - I am currently taking Metformin, which has regulated my cycle and helped me to loose 1.5 stone. I am hoping to get clomid in June. I hear the combination of clomid and metformin is very good and improves your chances of conceiving. Good luck.

sarah76 · 01/04/2008 22:03

DungunGirl, I'm so sorry, I don't know what to say.

supersteph · 01/04/2008 22:30

Thanks for the response Moonlit. Good luck to us all. xx

fruitloopwants79eastereggs · 02/04/2008 09:28

I just called the hospital again, apparently they cant give the results over the phone. They have to photocopy, get the doctor to sign and then send it in the post. So who knows when I'll get it.

My HSG is Friday afternoon, I'm really nervous actually. Please tell me it doesn't really hurt! DP is going to come with me to hold me hand

AttilaTheMeerkat · 02/04/2008 13:33

Dungangirl

I am on my hols at present so am not around very often online. I have just read the recent messages and was very saddened to read of your miscarriage.

The Miscarriage Association are very good and can offer support if and when you need someone to talk to.

With best wishes

Attila xx

AttilaTheMeerkat · 02/04/2008 13:35

Moonlit

Time to kick some serious butt now methinks.

Moonlit · 02/04/2008 16:10

Hi Attila and the rest of the PCOS gang

I have made my appointment. I will be seeing my GP next Thursday. I hope Attila will be back from her holidays by then , because if you could prep me I would REALLY appreciate it.

Hey Fruity Don't worry my darling. I am sure it will be ok. Just think, it's another step closer to getting pregnant. It's better to rule these things out. At least then you know where you stand......right? You are lucky, even though you might not feel it at the moment, because at least you are getting help. My GP treats me like a child and says come in another two months!!!! Every time I go and see her.

xxx

DungunGirl · 02/04/2008 21:42

Hi ladies

Thanks for all the good wishes.

I am hanging in there ok. Thought I would be ready to go back to work tomorrow...but I don't really think I am. I still feel a little tender and as soon as someone starts saying how sorry they are I well-up!

fruitloop
This is my first ever miscarriage. I am convinced the PCOS has something to do with it. The fact that the sonographer was surprised at the size of the sac from which I ovulated has this blasted condition written all over it!

The worst thing is....I know have to wait until June for another appointment at the fertility unit...so here we go again. AND we will see how long it takes and how many hoops they get me to jump through this time!

On the up side I guess I weighed this morning and my BMI is now OFFICIALLY under 35! So, with another 2 months of killing myself and starving myself I should be home-free and able to have CLOMID perscribed.

Roll on the summer!

How is everyone else coping?

AttilaTheMeerkat · 03/04/2008 12:28

fruitloop

HSG should not hurt providing the dye is injected both carefully and slowly. The person doing the x-ray should be able to give you an indication at that time as to whether the tubes are patent (open).

Do take a couple of painkillers beforehand (I was given some) and wear some sanitary protection afterwards as that dye will come out.

Please do not worry yourself unduly; the fear is worse than the reality.

Your friend in Orlando

Attila xx

AttilaTheMeerkat · 03/04/2008 12:30

Moonlit

AM not back from hols till next weekend but will check in here regularly. Insist on a referral to this GP.

HTH a bit, any other questions etc just ask

Attila

Moonlit · 03/04/2008 16:11

Guys seriously what would we do without Attila. I just want to give her a hug . I will definitely be more pushy next week and DEMAND a referral.

Fruity - good luck for tomorrow hun. I hope everything works out ok.

DungunGirl - Hun we are all thinking of you. Just think June is not to far away. At least your GP cares. My GP keeps fobbing me off, like I am a child or being greedy because I want another child. Anyway, we are all hear for you. You seem like a tough determined cookie to me and i know you will do it. xxxxxx
