Saw the GP today...

Well after 16 months of ttc number 2 and one mmc at the start, I finally bit the bullet and saw the GP this morning.

She was lovely and she's going to order some bloods and a sperm analysis for DH. She also took a swab today (for Chlamydia I think).

I'm sad that I'm at this point and a little angry too. I thought my DS would have a sibling by now and I just want this fertility journey to be over. Definitely grateful to have DS but fearful no more will come.

Is anyone else at a similar stage in their fertility journey?

@TheBirdintheCave we had that with our son. Are you doing pants on or off? We found that for about two days with pants on he had a few dribbles and he would realise and run to the potty. Then it clicked. It’s a shame your childminder isn’t more supportive.

TheBirdintheCave · 12/04/2023 10:15

@Keeptrying32 Ah interesting! The dribbles happen with pants on. With pants off he seems to be ok. We'll try and push through it. He is recognising when he's wet and saying 'Potty!' so I'm got a small amount of hope that it'll come together by the weekend 🙏

Keeptrying32 · 12/04/2023 10:26

@TheBirdintheCave Sounds similar. Keep going. Hopefully he will have it by the weekend. Fingers crossed for you.

oliveroses · 12/04/2023 20:52

@TheBirdintheCave oh wow, the potty training sounds rough! I haven't been near it yet - other than once when he kept announcing it was poo time and pointing at the potty but then went bananas when I tried to sit him on it. I sat on it, etc etc. nope, not having it!

@Got2besoon counting days here soon but fingers crossed the next 2/3 weeks speed by and we have good news x

TheBirdintheCave · 13/04/2023 07:25

We had an ok day of it yesterday only two dribble accidents. One of which was because he couldn't get his pants down in time bless him.

vitahelp · 14/04/2023 08:28

@TheBirdintheCave How are you feeling today? Has there been any potty training progress? How many dpo are you now? I'm 7/8, got hope starting to creep in...really shouldn't let that happen!

TheBirdintheCave · 14/04/2023 09:52

@vitahelp I'm 4dpo. My cold is finally getting better so feeling a little brighter in general.

Potty training is... ok... he's been in underwear only for the last couple of days and we've had a few dribbles but one big accident after he got up from his nap yesterday (I think because he was still sleepy).

Keeptrying32 · 14/04/2023 14:12

Hi so clinic appointment did not go well my AMH was 6. Been advised that we can continue to try naturally or IVF with ICSI is are only real option. Told clomid would only be delaying things. Feeling very defeated and low as you may understand.

TheBirdintheCave · 14/04/2023 15:07

@Keeptrying32 I'm sorry :( That must be a hard thing to hear. X

oliveroses · 14/04/2023 16:52

@Keeptrying32 so sorry to hear this. I confess I don't know anything about the amh ranges but really frustrating that you can't give anything else a go in the first instance. Did they comment at all on this given that you already have a dc? Or does that not really come into the picture?

Keeptrying32 · 15/04/2023 10:30

Hi thanks everyone. He said that it is likely that my fertility has started dropping off in the years since I had DS. I was 28 when I conceived DS and 32 now. He is pretty confident that I am ovulating, my womb lining and structure all looked fine and he says there is unlikely anything wrong with my tubes. He said we could continue to try naturally taking measures to improve DHs sperm but given we had already done all he suggested it doesn’t feel like it will work. Adding in Clomid wouldn’t improve the odds as although I may push out another egg it is likely not to be a good one. I knew my fertility will be dropping but I didn’t expect for my AMH to be so low for my age. It isn’t impossible that I will get pregnant naturally but chances are low. I just feel so upset- I tried to do things right - get stable job, home etc and doing that took time and now that time has likely contributed to our issues. I’m fully aware that fertility drops as you get older but I didn’t think 32 would be such an issue.

Jigglemonster · 15/04/2023 13:37

@Keeptrying32 I'm so sorry to hear the clinic appointment didn't go well. I went through the same sort of thing a few months ago and have popped back on the thread every now and then to see how everyone's doing.

My AMH came out at 2.7 pmol when I had the tests at the start of the year, I'm 34, had my DS almost 3 years ago. My doctor said that my AMH may have been quite low back then, that it's not necessarily a measure of fertility. I also had fairly regular ovulation and a clear pelvic scan but my consultant put a plan forward of clomid for 3 months coupled with follicle scanning to see how many there were and to ensure timing was right. He said that even in those who ovulate normally it can help and improve the chances (I had been recommended him by a family member who conceived on clomid a few times despite ovulating normally but not conceiving). Stage 2 was going to be HSG, and stage 3 was going to be artificially inseminating at the correct time. He said it was worth doing all of those things before considering IVF. I know that everyone's different but it seems that the advice varies quite a bit consultant by consultant. It's so tough to get bad news on AMH because there's no way to change or improve it but another consultant may give you other options.

Got2besoon · 15/04/2023 17:52

I'm sorry about this @Keeptrying32 and know you'll be disappointed, especially given the limited options provided.

I've heard AMH levels aren't that useful alone and that they need to scan the follicles too, to get an overall picture of what's going on. Was a scan offered?

Have you had a HSG? I'd consider it in your position, both to check for a tube blockage but also because of the higher rate of pregnancy after. My private one was £500 and very quick.

Hi all, just popped on to see how everyone is doing. @Keeptrying32 how are you feeling?x

oliveroses · 03/05/2023 21:21

@TheBirdintheCave have you started your ivf cycle? How is it going? How's potty training?
@vitahelp did your DH have his tests?

@Got2besoon hope it's all going okay!

TheBirdintheCave · 03/05/2023 23:27

I'm ok :) Seven days into IVF now. Second scan is on Friday and hopefully I'll be given my egg collection date then. Unfortunately it's looking like it will be a freeze all cycle as I'm high risk for OHSS so basically I get all of the pain and none of the reward 🙄🤦🏻‍♀️ Just endless waiting and no idea if/when I'll ever be pregnant again.

TheBirdintheCave · 03/05/2023 23:28

Oh and potty training is great :) My son has been out of nappies (including night nappies!) for nearly four weeks now! 😱

How're you?

vitahelp · 04/05/2023 08:10

@oliveroses Thanks for checking in :) How are you doing? Have you had a scan yet?
I'm good thanks. DH tests came back fine, in fact pretty good results (as did mine) so I just feel more confused than ever. I have my hospital appointment later this month (it was brought forward from Sept!) but I've realised they may not actually do the scan, it is more of a consultation which could go on a few hours and they may arrange a follow-up appointment for any further investigations. I'm hoping they do the scan there and then though, otherwise I'll be waiting again.
I'm on cycle 14 now, I tend to assume I wont be pregnant these days and didn't even bother testing last cycle. I've also given up BBT charting and haven't used OPKs this month either so don't even know when/if I ovulated. Hoping it will help in the 2WW but probably not!!

Got2besoon · 04/05/2023 12:55

It's great hearing these updates.

@TheBirdintheCave I can imagine how incredibly frustrating it must be to have to consider 'pausing' the cycle. The waiting is such a mental drain and it's awful to feel out of control like that. I have my fingers crossed your ovaries settle down pronto and play ball!

@vitahelp That's good news about test results for you both. Fingers crossed they can do the scan then and there. This is what happened with my first consult, but it was private, so not sure if this makes a difference.

How are you doing @oliveroses ? Have you had your scan?

I'm feeling much better the last few days but have managed to come down with a stonking cold and I'm needing lots of sleep. I recently had my 12 week scan and bloods and all went great.
Although, they told me the screening results from the bloods would get sent to the app unless there was an issue, in which case they'd call. Well... yesterday they called! I absolutely panicked when the lady told me who she was and that she was calling from 'the screening department'. Thankfully she immediately said not to worry, and that she just wanted to confirm I took Clomid when I conceived, as apparently this affects their algorithm? She went on to confirm that I'm low risk, so that was a relief.

@Got2besoon Great news! :D Crazy that it's been twelve weeks already! That time has flown by. I'm sorry about the phone call, that must have been really scary :(

oliveroses · 04/05/2023 19:49

@TheBirdintheCave great that IVF is underway, and I hope the scan goes well tomorrow. Also, amazing news on the potty training front! And nights too - you must be delighted!

@vitahelp wonderful that your results have been good and also that your hospital appointment has been brought forwards. Hopefully that will get things moving for you. And letting go of OPKs and BBTs might well help, your body is still doing what it's doing after all, whether or not you track it.

@Got2besoon so glad all is well! Must have been so stressful receiving that phone call though.

Had my scan yesterday and all good! Can't really believe there's a baby in there. Now nervously waiting for the screening results. If they don't call before end of Tuesday it's good, but it's going to be a long wait over the bank holiday weekend! They said it can take 10 working days for other (low risk) results to come through on the app, which also feels like a long wait ... even if that should be good news. Anyway feeling very grateful and still tentative but much more assured. Can't tell you how much I have felt supported by you all and this thread x

Alloveragain3 · 04/05/2023 20:46

@oliveroses I'm SO pleased to hear about your scan! That's brilliant news.

I'm now on to feeling anxious that my 20 week scan is so far away! However, I felt kicks from about 16-17 weeks with DS so fingers crossed I feel them at the same point or earlier with this one. They were doing big jumps at the 12 week scan Grin

vitahelp · 09/05/2023 08:16

Morning, I hope you all had a nice weekend. I'm in the 2ww now, well I think I am - for the first time I haven't tracked BBT or done OPK so I don't actually know when/if I ovulated. But it is CD20 today so very good chance I have. It has felt good not tracking things, even if just for this month. I'm hoping it will be set me up for a calmer 2ww but lets see!

@Got2besoon That is amazing news about your 12 week scan, it must feel great to have reached that milestone! I hope you have recovered from your cold now. I can imagine getting that call was a shock, very relieved for you that there was nothing concerning.

@oliveroses Such amazing news that your scan went well! I bet it feels so surreal! Have you had the screening results yet? I hope you aren't still waiting, let us know. I'm so glad the thread has helped on your journey, I feel the same, it is very reassuring being able to check in and get support/logical thoughts from you all.

@Alloveragain3 I hope you feel some kicks soon! How many weeks are you now?

vitahelp · 09/05/2023 08:17

@TheBirdintheCave Sorry I hit send before adding you to the above. How are you doing and what stage are you at now? I hope you are ok.

oliveroses · 09/05/2023 08:56

@vitahelp thank you! I'm still waiting. Was calm over the weekend but today is day 3 - so really hoping I don't get a call today!! After today I can relax a bit as it shouldn't be bad news x
