Saw the GP today...

Well after 16 months of ttc number 2 and one mmc at the start, I finally bit the bullet and saw the GP this morning.

She was lovely and she's going to order some bloods and a sperm analysis for DH. She also took a swab today (for Chlamydia I think).

I'm sad that I'm at this point and a little angry too. I thought my DS would have a sibling by now and I just want this fertility journey to be over. Definitely grateful to have DS but fearful no more will come.

Is anyone else at a similar stage in their fertility journey?

Oh god, same results as me!! Such a frustrating result but my consultant said he's fairly certain I ovulated with those levels.

Well, my cycle has been impossible to follow this month as I've caught Strep A and my temperature has been crazy high for the past week. I only realised I had it at the weekend when I went rapidly down hill (after just feeling a bit ill last week) and remembered that it felt like when I used to have chronic tonsillitis years ago 😫 I'm on a course of Penicillin now. Fun times.

I'm CD18 and no idea whether or not I've even ovulated yet 😂 How is everyone else faring?

oliveroses · 27/02/2023 12:10

@Got2besoon I am so annoyed now that I've had ten minutes to let it sink in! Was your consultant worried about the level in terms of establishing or maintaining pregnancy or is it really just about ovulation?

@TheBirdintheCave that is rubbish. I hope you feel better soon. Illness is so annoying when ttc!

I think I'm on 11dpo and cd 23 and I am holding out for the spotting to stay away for another 24 hours. It hasn't started yet which I'm surprised about but this is still within normal range and I am feeling a bit crampy so I'm sure it is on the way! I really really want a slightly longer cycle for me this month ...

TheBirdintheCave · 27/02/2023 12:13

@oliveroses Fingers crossed for you! I normally spot every month too, no idea why. It stopped for a long time after I had my son and it didn't happen last month (first cycle post ERPC) either.

Got2besoon · 27/02/2023 13:06

Oh bloody hell @TheBirdintheCave you poor thing. I hope you've been taking lots of time to rest and take care of yourself, that sounds horrible.

@oliveroses My first sample was 26 and my next was 29. Talk about infuriating! The consultant honestly didn't dwell to much on the results and didn't say a lot. However, he thinks I ovulate regularly.

From my own research, I have read that it is really dependent on the time the bloods are taken and levels fluctuate so much throughout the day that it is not a hugely reliable test. However, if you do get a number above 30, the experts are happy to confirm you ovulate.

When I took Clomid last month, my level was like 75 (can't remember exactly) so I think I ovulated two eggs... it was still a BFN though!

I actually just took an at home Progesterone test an hour ago as I'm 7dpo and my clinic haven't advised any tests this month (month 2 of Clomid). I'm just curious to see if levels are over 30 as I'm fairly sure I didn't ovulate. Will update the thread with results.

TheBirdintheCave · 27/02/2023 13:11

@Got2besoon I'm slowly getting back to normal :) I'm not very good at resting 😂

Do let us know what the results are :)

oliveroses · 27/02/2023 13:24

@Got2besoon okay that's actually quite reassuring to hear. I know that I did ovulate because they confirmed on the ultrasound. So I feel a bit better about that.

Why don't you think you ovulated, and are the home tests easy to use? Does clomid increase progesterone or is it because it powers ovulation and that is the thing that increases the progesterone?

When I was emailing the consultant with a few questions before I booked she said that my spotting could be a sign of a 'weak ovulation'. Am assuming that would be linked to progesterone levels too. Who knows. I'm booking the appointment as soon as AF well and truly arrives this month. No more holding off!

@TheBirdintheCave that's interesting that you didn't spot after your procedure. I wonder if yours has now been fixed as a result. I am trying not to worry about the spotting or to let it get me down. But it drives me mad really.

Just spoke to my sister and told her my test results and she said I'm fine, 'there's nothing wrong with you, it's just not happening'. Err... thanks sis.

Got2besoon · 27/02/2023 13:43

@oliveroses Ah brilliant, well if you know you ovulated that is great! But I understand your concern that the progesterone could be lower than it should be. As I say though, apparently levels do fluctuate a lot, even on the same day.

I do the postal Superdrug progesterone test where you just prick your finger. It is so easy and you get the result by email in like 2 days. Only £40 too, so a really nice little test!

So, last month on Clomid (1st time using it), I had the most intense ovulation cramps for about 6 hours. They were unmistakable and were 12 hours after my LH peak (which was 1.2 on the Easy@home app).
This month, I had zero ovulation cramps and my peak LH was only 0.75 despite testing several times a day.
I know it is my left ovary this month which has always seemed to be the under achiever! Scans confirmed that both my son and my MMC were from my right ovary and I tend to only get right ovary ovulation pains.

As is the case with anything TTC though.... who the fuck really knows!

OP posts:
oliveroses · 27/02/2023 14:11

@Got2besoon it will be really interesting to see how the test comes back. As you say, who the fuck really knows ... that should be my new maxim!

vitahelp · 27/02/2023 16:27

@oliveroses I'm sorry to hear your results weren't ideal. I mean it is good that the levels are high enough to confirm ovulation likely happened, but I understand your concern about levels being high enough to maintain pregnancy. I had to laugh at what your sister said, I've had all sorts of daft stuff said to me by well-meaning family/friends.

@Got2besoon I had no idea there was a home progesterone test! Haha yes I agree who the fuck knows!

AF arrived for me yesterday, wasn't surprised and feel like I've bounced back quite quickly. Still the reality has hit that it is unlikely I will have a baby this year now. I know due dates are irrelevant at this stage and we just want a baby, however it feels like another disappointing milestone realising that it will probably not even be this year now.

Got2besoon · 27/02/2023 16:32

@vitahelp I always calculate those things in my head and it drives me mad at times. Like 'Ooh, if we fall pregnant this month I'll have a nice bump for summer' or 'If I get my positive test on this day, my 12 week scan would be on DH's birthday'. Then AF comes and it's even more bitter of a pill to swallow.

I'm glad you're feeling strong this month. I'm feeling good right now, but I'm sure the typical 'doom and gloom' will be here for a few days once AF is on her way.

Hey. Sorry, I keep dipping in and out of this thread. I know most of you girls have children or a child. Are you going to go down the ivf route if TTC naturally isn’t happening? Xx

Yes, in April.

vitahelp · 28/02/2023 09:45

@Got2besoon Yes this is exactly what I do. My latest is a holiday I've recently booked for July - I've had the idea in my head that I will most likely be pregnant by then. It will be hard to reach that point and not be pregnant and it is almost putting a negative spin on the holiday, which is ironic since I booked it as a bit of a 'fuck you' to TTC!

@Anonbaby We've decided we wont do IVF, so if it wont happen naturally we will just have our DD. I'm coming to terms with the idea of her being an only child now and trying to accept it (I was an only child myself which helps).

Got2besoon · 28/02/2023 11:37

@vitahelp I totally get it!

@Anonbaby I have a 3yo and we ideally want 3 children so would do IVF if needed, yes. I'll probably finish the 6 months of Clomid then a couple more natural months then IVF time.

Well, I'm once again impressed at Superdrug. I posted my blood test to them yesterday at about 1pm and I've just gotten the results emailed to me.

39.3 nmol/L Progesterone, so I guess I don't know my body at all and I did ovulate! Woo hoo!

Currently 9dpo and I've got a scratchy throat and some mild tugging sensations in the lower RHS so of course my mind is racing.

However, I've been in the game way too long to feel excited or hopeful. I'm going to do a cheapy test tomorrow.

OP posts:
vitahelp · 28/02/2023 18:51

@Got2besoon That’s great news about the result! I really hope what you’re feeling is a positive sign, let us know how you get on if you decide to test tomorrow!

Got2besoon · 01/03/2023 12:51

You guys... I just got a BFP. I can't believe it and I'm incredibly, incredibly grateful.

There's also like a "wall" I've put up that I didn't have after my previous BFPs. It's like I'm not yet excited because of the previous loss and there's this grey cloud that it could happen again.

But, for right now, I'm pregnant!

I wish the same for all of you ladies and want these BFPs to start rolling in!

10dpo, 20th cycle trying (mmc on cycle 5), 2nd cycle clomid.

Saw the GP today...

Ah congratulations @Got2besoon . I've been off for a while and popped back over and what great news to be met with. That's fantastic. Also excellent lines for 10dpo! Really pleased for you

vitahelp · 01/03/2023 13:54

@Got2besoon Congratulations!! So happy for you and it gives me so much hope that it can happen for me too. It must feel so surreal and I understand you having a wall up due to past experience, but I so hope this time is different and you have a healthy pregnancy. Keep checking in here when you can!

oliveroses · 01/03/2023 14:31

@Got2besoon woohoo, congratulations!! That is such wonderful news, I'm so happy for you! I know it is hard but allow yourself to enjoy it.

Guys, I just had reflexology for the first time and wow. It was amazing! I read another thread on here and so many people said it worked for them that I thought I'd try it. Sooooo relaxing.

Keeptrying32 · 01/03/2023 16:06

@Got2besoon That is fantastic news. I am so happy for you. Hopefully this will be the start of a whole load of positives on this thread. Wishing you a safe and healthy pregnancy. Massive congratulations. It has given me hope.

Ive been quiet as things have been ticking along here. I managed to speak to my GP this week as my last few cycles have been really short even for me, with spotting on days 8 and 9 dpo. My hair has been falling out, I’m super tired and I have gained quite a bit of weight which is not like me. Despite eating better and exercising more I haven’t lost any weight. I put it down to stress with my exam etc but after things not getting better once that was over finally decided to get some bloods done as I’m wondering if my thyroid is an issue. It probably isn’t but as mad as it sounds it would almost be a relief as it would explain things. I am waiting on the results so we will see. I do have some good news, not as exciting as @Got2besoon but I did pass my exam so now we are exploring fertility specialist options.

Got2besoon · 01/03/2023 17:15

Thank you everyone, your messages means a lot. It doesn't feel real at all. I haven't even told DH yet as he's still at work!

I just asked DS if he wanted a sibling and he said he'd like a sister and we could ask Santa. Bless him!

@oliveroses Reflexology sounds fab. I'm all for anything relaxing. I had one accupunture session and disliked the little needles!

@Keeptrying32 You passed!!! Aaah, that is wonderful, I know you were worried it hadn't gone well. What a relief that must be, I hope you'll be celebrating in style.
That is interesting about your symptoms. In lots of the threads I was reading about TTC, the women found out they had under-active thyroids and then conceived soon after starting the medicine. Do let us know.

I'll definitely be sticking around to see how you all get on (if you don't mind!).

@Got2besoon Congratulations! :D Looks like the Clomid did the trick!

oliveroses · 02/03/2023 17:26

@Jigglemonster how are you getting on?x

@Keeptrying32 so glad you passed! I think the thyroid is easy to treat and it does sound as though it would explain a few things x

@Got2besoon still so pleased for you!
