Saw the GP today...

Well after 16 months of ttc number 2 and one mmc at the start, I finally bit the bullet and saw the GP this morning.

She was lovely and she's going to order some bloods and a sperm analysis for DH. She also took a swab today (for Chlamydia I think).

I'm sad that I'm at this point and a little angry too. I thought my DS would have a sibling by now and I just want this fertility journey to be over. Definitely grateful to have DS but fearful no more will come.

Is anyone else at a similar stage in their fertility journey?

@TheBirdintheCave thank you - that is a relief, and sensible!

vitahelp · 08/02/2023 09:25

@oliveroses I wondered about this too but husband has had the letter now and it states that you need to drop the sample off within 40 minutes. So I suppose it depends how close to the drop off point you live. In our case we are about 5 miles away but if he goes in the middle of the day it should be doable.

oliveroses · 08/02/2023 12:33

Thank you, I did his e-consult this morning on his behalf so I'm hoping it will be relatively quick and easy! First blood test today. Have an acupuncture appointment now. She always makes me feel better but in a way sometimes I think it would be better if people said: if it doesn't happen, you know that it's okay (and will be okay). Instead of constantly assuring me that it will happen based on nothing 😆

vitahelp · 09/02/2023 16:06

@oliveroses It sounds like you are being really productive, it helps to feel like you're doing something doesn't it. I feel a lot calmer this month and I'm sure it is due to starting the ball rolling with the investigations and having the blood tests etc.
I completely agree. I find people saying "it will happen, just be patient" the worst as we all know full well it might never happen. Like you, I find much more comfort in thinking about it not happening and realising I will be fine and still have so much to enjoy.

oliveroses · 10/02/2023 09:02

So my first blood test results came back and all in the normal range but my thyroid level, while in range, is at the high end. It's 3.66 and high point of normal is 4.2. Lots of stuff online about how it should be around 2 when ttc and I think this is medicated in other countries or privately. So I have no idea if I should be worried about it or whether I can just think great, am normal 😬

How's everyone else going?

TheBirdintheCave · 10/02/2023 09:28

@oliveroses Hmm... yeah I read it needs to be no higher than 2.5. I think a fertility clinic would probably want you on meds for that.

oliveroses · 10/02/2023 10:41

Ugh, it's exhausting - I wouldn't have had the thyroid test if I hadn't requested it and I wouldn't know something might be amiss if I hadn't googled the result! I am not googling the others. Something else for the private specialist when I get there ...

vitahelp · 22/02/2023 16:48

Hi, I hope everyone is ok. I had my progesterone blood test yesterday and got the results back today and all is normal. So either it is an issue with DH or it’s just going to take a bit longer. I’m 9dpo today and feel pretty normal so not really got my hopes up for this cycle.

@oliveroses Have you had your progesterone blood test yet?

TheBirdintheCave · 22/02/2023 17:31

@vitahelp I wouldn't count yourself out for feeling normal. I had absolutely zero symptoms leading up to my first and second bfps :)

I'm ok CD13 now and waiting to O (which may come early this cycle). Unfortunately I have a cold so can't count on my temps this time around :/

oliveroses · 22/02/2023 17:36

Hi @vitahelp, it's great that your progesterone is normal though I know it can feel annoying when it doesn't seem there is anything to fix! My progesterone test is on Friday and I think I'm about 6dpo now. I expect to be spotting by Friday so hopefully it will tell me if I have low progesterone. I did have my ultrasound earlier this week. It was all normal and she said i has ovulated from my left ovary. Hurrah! But I have given up hope for now after my thyroid result.

How are you getting on @TheBirdintheCave @Got2besoon @Keeptrying32 ?

vitahelp · 22/02/2023 19:26

@TheBirdintheCave Youre right, in fact I was the same with first child and felt virtually nothing when I was pregnant. Yet somehow this time I expect major symptoms and signs!
I hope you have confirmed O soon, I temp to detect O as well so I know the feeling when temps can’t be relied upon. Do you use OPK as well?

@oliveroses I must admit although it is nice to hear everything is normal, it does also concern me that we might just be left to it and stuck in this limbo of TTC forever. I’ve felt so much more relaxed this month because of the distraction of having the blood tests done, but I worry next month I’ll be back to being obsessive..
I’m glad your scan gave a good result and I hope your progesterone tests do too. Have doctors commented on your thyroid result, or do they not feel it is an issue since it is still within their ‘normal’ range?

oliveroses · 22/02/2023 20:03

@vitahelp yes, I was weirdly hoping something on my scan would be clearly causing the spotting! Instead it seems it's an invisible cause. I haven't had my follow up chat with the gp, think that will be end of next week or the week after, but I already know (friend is a gp) that they won't medicate the thyroid because it's within normal range. Hopefully the private specialist will! I'll be booking the appointment as soon as my period comes.

TheBirdintheCave · 22/02/2023 22:23

@oliveroses Just more waiting around really. Waiting for O and then waiting to see if it worked and then, if not, starting the IVF... if we can get the appointments booked in time.

@vitahelp Yeah I had a control dark OPK on CD10 along with EWCM so there's a chance O has already happened but no way to prove it 🤷🏻‍♀️

Got2besoon · 23/02/2023 16:46

Hi all!

I've been MIA recently as my new phone broke and was away being fixed for the last week. Grrr.

I didn't get an LH peak this month (it only got to 0.75 on the easy@home strips / ovia app) and didn't have any ovulation cramps, so I'm worried I didn't even ovulate despite being on clomid. I've ordered a super drug progesterone test to do on day 7 and check. It seems my fertility specialist isn't one for much monitoring.

I agree that "normal" results can sometimes be more frustrating than anything. Please just find the issue and fix it!

TheBirdintheCave · 23/02/2023 18:51

@Got2besoon Sorry it seems like it didn't work :( Where are you in your cycle now? How many goes of Clomid do you have left?

My clinic was slow at getting my information sorted so now we won't be doing IVF until the April cycle which I'm pretty upset about 😭

Got2besoon · 23/02/2023 19:54

@TheBirdintheCave Oh no, I'm so sorry about the IVF news. It is incredibly annoying when you have to wait because of things out of your control. Every month can feel like a lifetime when TTC. I hope time goes by quickly for you.

This is cycle 2 of CLOMID and I got 6 cycles worth from the pharmacy. However, I've read that it usually works in the 1st 3 months if it is going to work, so I've already lost hope!

OP posts:
oliveroses · 23/02/2023 20:25

@Got2besoon don't lose hope! I know this might sound a bit silly or useless but can you listen to some mindfulness podcasts to try and take your mind off it? I've been doing a lot of that lately and it's really making me feel quite chill, despite shitness.

@TheBirdintheCave that is really annoying. I have my fingers crossed you will fall pregnant naturally in the meantime. I heard sometimes it happens because the pressure is off?x

TheBirdintheCave · 23/02/2023 20:36

@oliveroses I've found its the opposite. There's immense pressure to succeed before the round starts. It worked for my son :) He was conceived just before the start of an IVF cycle.

oliveroses · 23/02/2023 20:38

@TheBirdintheCave ha ha, that's brilliant! However it works, if it works: great! This might be a daft question but do you get some of the money back from the ivf if that happens?!

TheBirdintheCave · 23/02/2023 21:26

@oliveroses I think we get it all back bar the money we used for consultations and bloods.

vitahelp · 25/02/2023 09:51

Morning ladies, looks like I’m out for another cycle..no AF yet but randomly took my temp this morning at 12dpo (not taken temp for the whole luteal phase this cycle) and it is near coverline which it always does before AF.

Had a bit of a cry this morning..I’ll be going into cycle 12 after this. Just don’t understand, all my blood tests were good which I’m grateful for but why is this happening. DH tests are scheduled for April.

Had such a great week off with DD for half term and been so happy and now feel like I’m crashing. Feel like TTC ruins everything and is this dark cloud waiting for me no matter how well everything else is going.

oliveroses · 25/02/2023 13:49

I'm so sorry @vitahelp. It is so tough. I don't understand either. I don't know what to say because I feel exactly the same. The only thing that's made me feel better lately is that I read that statistic about 90% of couples getting pregnant after 2 years regardless of age. I know 2 years is a long time though; but we are now in our second year. Also read a blog post or podcast thing that was all about having the resilience to stay in the game for as long as it takes. So I'm trying to focus on that.

Having said that I still feel that something is wrong with me. I had some strongish cramps today so I know my spotting will start soon and I'm just hoping my period doesn't come even earlier than it has been lately. I'm cd21 now, maybe 9pdo. I'm going to have a nap while DS naps now in the hope that I can find some inner hidden resource... x

Got2besoon · 25/02/2023 18:40

Oh @vitahelp I'm sorry. I don't know what to say except I know exactly what you're going through and it is so shut.

I found the period from 6 to 12 months especially hard as there was this pressure that I had to get pregnant now or there would be something wrong.

Now I'm past that mark, it somehow feels less bad.

@oliveroses I love a good day time nap!

That statistic is quite nice, and I hope it holds true for all of this on this thread!

vitahelp · 25/02/2023 22:18

@oliveroses @Got2besoon Thank you ladies, sorry for being so negative just got me down this morning. Just want AF here now so I can get past this part. I wouldn’t say I got my hopes up this month, I’ve stopped doing that a while ago. But there was a little bit of hope..I think because I was having the blood tests this month I felt a lot more relaxed so thought maybe it would happen this time.
Thank you for sharing that statistic, it does put my mind at rest xx

oliveroses · 27/02/2023 11:44

My progesterone levels have just come back at 29 which is borderline. Not sure how I feel about this other than just more uncertainty x
