Hello,

Just wondering if anyone has been for a first appointment at the ACU in Dundee. My husband and I have our first appointment together at the end of January and just wondering what to expect.

@mrsmacmc Hope your scan went well.

@RRk1469 That's exciting!! I'm due to phone on day 1 which is not till the end of the month. Then we are trying IUI first to see how that goes so will be starting that approx 2 weeks after. So yeah sounds like we will be in a similar timing.

I don't know about you but I'm literally counting down the days to start now. It just all feels so close but time seems to be going slower the closer it gets lol. Thought it would be easier knowing how close it is, but nope I'm still impatient 🤣

RRk1469 · 10/01/2023 20:34

@LLAW89 not long to go then!! Do you know what protocol ypu are doing?

@TTC86 I am so impatient it's unreal. I know I'm going to be so frustrated if it doesn't work first time and I have to start again but hopefully lots of sticky beans on this thread!

Hello all! @mmrsmacmc how was your scan on the 3rd?

I phoned on day one of my cycle and I'm due for a injection on the 24th January (I'm.doing the long protocol) this is to suppress my ovulation. I thought I had to do these daily but she said this would keep me topped up?? Has anyone heard of this method? I then have a Scan on the 6th to check its worked then I start daily stims.

@TTC86 we might be starting around the same time!?

Morning all!

We've just had our appointment with the consultant to discuss protocol. We will be doing long protocol (same as you @RRk1469 ) starting on the first day of my May cycle. All feels a bit surreal but desperate to get started now! @RRk1469 let me know how your baseline scan goes on 24th 😊

sjp00 · 13/01/2023 15:35

Hi all, can I ask, the consultation you are all having where you have been told your start month, was this the consultation to discuss your AMH results? As I thought we would have got our start date in December when our consultant discussed our protocol but we haven’t, but I can see from other peoples experiences they have x

RRk1469 · 14/01/2023 20:59

Aw @FSF85 aw that's exciting! Not long to go! I don't know much about the long protocol I assumed I got daily injections to suppress my natural ovulation but they told me on my last phonecall that I'll only need 1 injection.

@sjp00 I already knew start dates as I emailed to ask when we'd start however, they confirmed this in my protocol consultation which was in Oct and we were due to start in December (although it did get postponed!)

OP posts:
CuriousAries · 16/01/2023 20:36

@sjp00 I was hoping I would get the ok to start next period after consultation....unless they were fully booked etc.

My consultation is Wednesday morning 😬

If anyone has any generic Qs I'm happy to ask and give you all answers - let me know!

I've been reading things on various FB pages about still being closed for egg collections until 20 something of Jan...so expecting Feb to be busy 🙄

sjp00 · 16/01/2023 20:51

@CuriousAries fingers crossed, this is what I thought we would get at ours in December but disappointedly we didn’t :( I’ve also emailed Wednesday last week but haven’t heard anything back re a start month, also still not heard back from embryology regarding the 3 month delay between egg collection and embryo transfer so I have absolutely no clue what’s going on! Rather disappointing start to the year, I hope you get a bit more info though fingers crossed you get a date x

RRk1469 · 16/01/2023 21:24

@CuriousAries is this your video consultation to discuss protocol? If so we were Oct due to start Dec if that helps.

I get my first injection a week tomorrow 🙌 🤪

Can't believe it's finally here.

OP posts:
CuriousAries · 16/01/2023 21:31

@RRk1469
It's a phone appointment to discuss protocol.
Did they say why you couldn't start with next period?
Not long now for you 😬

Also anyone have a 3cm cyst or bigger and still allowed to start treatment?

They found one a year ago - no symptoms- but last couple of months I may be having symptoms which makes me think it's gotten bigger 🥹 I know I'll have a baseline scan Feb/March/April (whenever I start) but I'm going to ask if I can get back in for a scan earlier so I don't think I'm starting the process then find out half way in I need to stop and deal with the cyst!

RRk1469 · 16/01/2023 23:00

@CuriousAries they didn't say there was any reason why just wasn't our time yet I guess. Hopefully not long for you.

I've been so ill the last few weeks just hope it goes and I'm all healthy for starting.

Sorry can't help with the cyst. Hope it's all okay. Definitely better to get ot checked before starting

OP posts:
sjp00 · 18/01/2023 10:27

@CuriousAries hopefully your appointment goes well this morning! Fingers crossed you get your dates 😁

CuriousAries · 18/01/2023 12:25

Thanks for remembering @sjp00

warning - long post 🤣

Dr Martins Da Silva just spoke through the protocol - she was lovely but spoke lots as if reading from a script and couldn't get Qs in until the end.

So guys this 'pack' that I mentioned before - that came with the AMH results and was called 'generic treatment schedule for standard protocol'- I think that is just that, a general overview of what's to come.
I'm now thinking other people's 'packs' have been their actual protocol with the letter saying for on your next period....which I haven't received yet. So hoping that's cleared things up and not adding to any confusion! - and for those of you trying IUI first maybe that's why you didn't get it because it's for IVF/ICSI.

She couldn't tell me when to start as she said she doesn't have access and that the secretaries have that and to email them - but did say looks like I'm at top of list and should be able to start within next month or so. So just waiting to hear back via email from them.
(Going from your post @FSF85 about being told your starting in May and got added onto list in September I'm assuming I'll start 2 months before since we got added on start of July 22...but how strange you got your consultation last week before me if I was added to list before! Doesn't make sense and gives us no hope of trying to work out dates if it's not kinda going first on the list etc ). She did say need to wait for letter to say phone to start cos if you phone without it the secretaries will know and say it's not your turn. She did say they would have already worked out who's starting this month, next month and next etc.

So I'm on short protocol and not the standard that they send out generically so will be quicker! Screening for HIV etc will be done at baseline scan do Day 2/3 then drums - rather than waiting until Day 21. But the standard protocol had morning injections where as she said I'll need to have morning and evenings ones which I wasn't expecting! Is their a long protocol? Or is standard and long the same? I asked for the number of protocol and she said they don't do that (like Glasgow!) (@mrsmacmc hope you don't mind me commenting but when I've scrolled back and seen your AMH was 1.9 was surprised to see you were doing short protocol too but just reading the info letters and just realised does say low AMH can be short with maximum drugs whereas I'll have minimum drugs (I was 26.2 which is just over the normal response to drugs of 25. She did call it a gentle protocol- is that why yours was called Flame because it's higher amount?)- all so intricate! But weird they seem to only have like 4/5 protocols compared to Glasgows 14!

Got to ask some generic Qs and then she said she will see us soon.

Hoping some of the above has helped and not confused/angered further and I'll update you on start date when I get it through.

sjp00 · 18/01/2023 12:36

@CuriousAries we need to employ you to the unit, I think that’s the most informative information I’ve got so far! 😂 glad it went okay, hopefully you hear back soon from the Secrateries!

They did email me yesterday to say they had a backlog and were working through this, my email took just under a week to get answered. Just to give you the heads up in case you end up waiting the same length x

CuriousAries · 18/01/2023 12:52

@sjp00 haha that's the teacher/ Aries/ anxiety in me- I need to know every little detail and I'm a great detective 🤣🤣🤣

Aw thanks for heads up- they have always been quite quick in replying to me so I'll try to stop checking phone 🤣 did they give you a start date or just say there was a back log? The Dr did say today that any questions to email secretaries or nurses - have you tried both?

sjp00 · 18/01/2023 12:59

@CuriousAries brilliant 🤣

they came back to me yesterday to say our notes were with the Dr, but not much else. We were also still waiting to hear back about the 3 month pause between egg collection and embryo transfer due to their change in protocol , my partner phoned NHS switchboard and managed to get put through to someone who said the Dr would come back to us by hopefully the end of this week/start of next, to answer our Q’s re start dates and embryo transfer wait.

So hoping if not this week later on next I should have the date, will let you know as soon as I hear!

I didn’t realise the nurses had an email I thought it was just the Secrateries, I always email [email protected]

I was the same, constantly refreshing my phone when I sent the email 11/01 but just got response yesterday, I feel like they’re either super quick or take about a week, no in between🤣 this is what they said re delay in response: “Apologies for the delay in our response to your email, we are extremely short staffed at the moment, and working through our backlog of messages and emails.”

Hopefully because our consultation appointments were quite near we will be staring at similar times!

I think the nearer it gets, the worse the wait! X

mrsmacmc · 18/01/2023 13:23

Hi all

Apologies been MIA, 🫘 is behaving and developing nicely 🤞🏻 officially 10wk today 🎉 I've annoyingly developed a cyst on my ovary along with a fibroid, which are causing some issues, the hospital are blaming it on the IVF treatment but monitoring me closely.

@CuriousAries not at all! Yes the flare 🔥 protocol is the turbo boost short protocol ❤️

Have had a quick 👀 on the thread and it seems to be a few folks starting cycles this month ✨ 💖 🥰 you got this 💪🏻 🤞🏻

CuriousAries · 19/01/2023 15:32

Got a reply to say provisional start month of March.

@mrsmacmc gosh I feel like that 10 weeks has flown in -maybe you don't! 🤣

sjp00 · 19/01/2023 17:12

@CuriousAries How exciting!

We are still waiting on our start date, though the ball seems to be rolling now. We are same sex couple going through IVF, an embryologist from Ninewells phoned today to discuss the sperm we had purchased and to go over a couple of queries, she asked if I had any Q's and I said it was just waiting on a start date now from Dr or secretaries (going to email again tomorrow or Monday to see) but she said she would see us very soon and the sperm was ready to go, so I am hoping that means next cycle which would be mid February!

Getting all real now!

mrsmacmc · 19/01/2023 17:24

@CuriousAries exciting times for you 🎉 🤞🏻 💖

Some days it feels really quick and others not so much 😆 ❤️ we're aiming for 16wk before we tell people widely about 🫘

sjp00 · 19/01/2023 17:42

@mrsmacmc How exciting, hope you are keeping well :) x

mrsmacmc · 19/01/2023 21:21

@sjp00 thank you 🥰 keeping OK thanks, countdown is on for our 12wk scan 🤞🏻

sjp00 · 23/01/2023 18:47

Hi all, hope everyone is well! Just thought I’d point out, there is a TV show airing at the moment: Alex Jones, Making Babies. Although it is based in London it has been good to see the process and people’s real life experience. I have found it quite interesting and it makes me feel a bit better about what to expect, thought I’d share in case anyone else fancied a watch of it! There are new episodes each Thursday, free to watch on UKTV app, think there is 3 or 4 episodes currently :) x

RRk1469 · 24/01/2023 19:50

@sjp00 Aww I'm going to watch it. Might be informative 👌

I've had my first injection 💉 today. I got the one dose which will keep me topped up till stims. Baseline scan is in the 6th where they've told me that myself and DH have to attend so we can get smoke test?? Seems strange they'd only test this after we've started our cycle? Has anyone else had this?

RRk1469 · 25/01/2023 12:07

@mrsmrsmacmc Was just looking at dates etc and what to take off work. Was wondering how you felt after egg collection? Will I need to take time off after that? If so I'll need like 3weeks off? 😫 I'm kind of freaking out about having to come to work and ruining my chances. The stress is real right now .

OP posts:
sjp00 · 26/01/2023 16:06

We finally got our start month, we are due to phone on day one of my partners March period! Then we have a 12 week wait between that point/egg collection to embryo transfer, so embryo transfer should be around end of may/mid June 😁So so happy to finally have a timeframe to look forward to!

Hope everyone else is getting on okay, especially those starting soon xx
