How long after stopping for pill for first proper period?

Hi all,

I was wondering how long after stopping the contraceptive pill was it until you had your first natural non-withdrawal bleed period?

I stopped the pill on 10th December and had my first withdrawal bleed on 13th December. Now I’m just impatiently waiting for my period to come back.

6 weeks after withdrawal bleed.

Pudding01 · 13/01/2021 19:48

Mine came 29 days later, like a normal cycle 🙂

CheshireSplat · 13/01/2021 19:49

Mine settled down to a regular cycle after about 6 months.

CocoPark · 13/01/2021 19:56

I have breaks now and then, usually my "real" period takes 5 weeks to first appear and is regular after that.

Chloerobinson97 · 13/01/2021 20:14

I came off the pill in early September and I’m still waiting for my first period! Very annoying

emilyylouise · 14/01/2021 12:55

I came off the pill beginning of November.. had a withdrawal bleed 4 days later... no period in December and finally turned up on the 4th jan! 🙈

glow92 · 14/01/2021 15:54

Hey @lovingllamaa we're close in dates I stopped taking Cerelle on 7th December. I didn't have a withdrawal bleed (or it was so brief I didn't notice if that's even possible!), I got AF 28 days later on 4th Jan which was pretty steady and not painful thankfully for 5 days.

Chanel05 · 14/01/2021 20:08

It was 35 days for me.

MrsA9 · 14/01/2021 21:03

I stopped Cerelle, had no withdrawal bleed and then AF exactly 28 days after my last pill. I was always very regular before the pill though

incywincyspiders · 14/01/2021 21:39

26 days like a normal cycle!

Dex1521 · 14/01/2021 21:40

I was on the progesterone only pill and it took 6 weeks for WD bleed then another 4 weeks for first AF. Hadn't had an AF for years before that due to having the implant and after that going straight onto pill. Only good thing about having to wait 10 weeks is my cycles have been 27 days since then and periods are very regular

BeeDavis · 14/01/2021 21:56

I had my first period after coming off the pill exactly when I should have done on it! Always had really good regular periods and I was so worried coming off the pill would change that but months down the line it hasn’t thankfully!

Emmgrem · 14/01/2021 22:09

I had a withdrawal bleed 5 days post pill and then first natural period 18 days after that 🙈 So very short cycle, seems to buck the trend of what most people's experiences are!

Newstart20 · 14/01/2021 22:11

I had a withdrawal bleed almost instantly and then I had a period about three weeks later. I'd been taking the pill for years.

Berlioz23 · 14/01/2021 22:20

Up to 3 months is classed as normal, most women are usually fully established into their normal periods again by then though, so no need to worry health wise. Personally when I came off it was around 40 days

MMG21 · 15/01/2021 21:50

still waiting had withdrawal bleed 22nd 27th Dec I stopped pill 22nd dec It was a random break through bleed I still had a week left. Due AF on Tues if I go off 28 day cycle which Is what I usually am

SendMeHome · 15/01/2021 22:01

I stopped the pill in early Nov. Had a withdrawal bleed and then first period was 34 days later - had an LH increase but no peak that month. This month cycle was 28 days, but had a clear peak.

I’ve been told to expect it to take 6-12 months but to know that it can take less, just that it might not.

Dalmxo · 23/01/2021 00:12

@lovingllamaa thanks for opening up chat re this. I've been on pill for 13 years, stopped on 14th December .. had withdrawal bleed 2 days after now awaiting real period still... had yours turned up? X

Dalmxo · 29/01/2021 21:05

Hello! So I for really excited as last night it looked like AF had returned ... making it a 43 day cycle, was a small amount on tissue, but since no flow.... I factored in a few months to get back to normal originally, and will still go with that. Mad how excited I was to see some AF then disappointed for no more! Ah the joys of preparing for TTC x

Dalmxo · 29/01/2021 21:06

Sorry for typo was meant to say 'I was so excited ' Halo

moomalade89 · 29/01/2021 21:09

Mine was about 90 days. It's so hard to wait so I feel for you. Like you have fallen at the first hurdle and not actually TTC!

TheDaydreamBelievers · 29/01/2021 22:02

141 days! Ive only heard of one person longer

Chloerobinson97 · 29/01/2021 22:28

@TheDaydreamBelievers 116 days for me! Have you tried anything to bring your period on?

moomalade89 · 29/01/2021 22:40

My top tip is go to the doctor about it - mine came back literally the day after I spoke to him Grin

TheDaydreamBelievers · 29/01/2021 22:44

@Chloerobinson97 it came already! I'm past it now 😊 next cycle was 50 odd days, then I conceived and then miscarried so not sure if itll be normal yet!
