How long after stopping for pill for first proper period?

Hi all,

I was wondering how long after stopping the contraceptive pill was it until you had your first natural non-withdrawal bleed period?

I stopped the pill on 10th December and had my first withdrawal bleed on 13th December. Now I’m just impatiently waiting for my period to come back.

Did it just come back on its own? I’m getting impatient but I’ve started having acupuncture to help :)

Dalmxo · 29/01/2021 23:20

Yeah interested to know what you can do to bring the period on?
I know we are struggling with the same thing, so one thing that is giving me comfort is that it must be common, we are all patient only waiting 💓

Alfxn · 29/01/2021 23:22

5 months for me

Aquamarine1029 · 29/01/2021 23:25

I stopped the pill and got pregnant with my second that month, before I even had a period. I got off because we were trying for a second, and I thought it would be at least a few months before I would get pregnant. Clearly not.

@Chloerobinson97 I asked for bloods and hormones check at Dr but all was fine. Then it just appeared back without anything else occurring!

Chloerobinson97 · 30/01/2021 16:36

@TheDaydreamBelievers that is the same with me, all blood tests came back normal! How long did you go without a period?

TheDaydreamBelievers · 30/01/2021 16:39

@Chloerobinson97 141 days - so about 4 and a half to 5 months.

Chloerobinson97 · 30/01/2021 16:44

@TheDaydreamBelievers almost the same as me so hopefully I won’t have to wait too much longer :)

Sparkles512 · 30/01/2021 16:45

I stopped taking the POP and had my first period around 30 days after the withdrawal bleed stopped.

moomalade89 · 31/01/2021 08:33

@TheDaydreamBelievers sorry to hear about your miscarriage. That must have been really tough xxx

TheDaydreamBelievers · 31/01/2021 09:45

Thanks @moomalade89. It was rough - I'd got all the way to 12 weeks so it was very sad. It also meant a lot of time "wasted" - 12 weeks pregnant then 9 weeks until cycle came back after miscarriage. Overall we have been TTC since last march and have only really had one shot at it, which ended in MC.

Chloerobinson97 · 31/01/2021 11:10

@TheDaydreamBelievers so sorry to hear that, it must have been awful. Sending you all the luck in the world for your next baby x

bluet1t · 31/01/2021 11:13

Mine took seven months to return, had lots of checks at the doctors in that time and was assured it was normal.

Mmmmdanone · 31/01/2021 11:23

I came off the pill in the October (several years ago) and was pregnant in the January having never had a period.

moomalade89 · 31/01/2021 12:04

@TheDaydreamBelievers oh gosh, you poor thing. Hard at any point, but especially at the point when you should be able to have a big sigh of relief. And wish you loads of luck for your next pregnancy coming soon x

Chloerobinson97 · 31/01/2021 15:58

@bluet1t did you take or do anything to help bring them back?

ShutUpAlex · 31/01/2021 17:02

Has anyone had a normal period after the pill but then nothing? I had a normal 30 day cycle when I first stopped and now nothing! I’m on cd52.

bluet1t · 01/02/2021 11:03

@Chloerobinson97 no, my GP didn't seem at all concerned, and said it's usually nothing to worry about. I had a few blood tests to rule out things like thyroid issues, but they did come back eventually and I have no underlying issues.

Chloerobinson97 · 01/02/2021 13:38

@bluet1t that’s really good, gives me a bit of hope that things will return on their own for me. I’ve had some tests done from the doctors too and everything came back normal

bluet1t · 01/02/2021 18:04

@Chloerobinson97 good luck! I know it's such a cliche, and far easier said than done, but try not to worry about too much. I wouldn't at all be surprised if mine was caused by stress

Chloerobinson97 · 01/02/2021 21:04

@bluet1t thank you! I know what you mean, I’m having acupuncture at the moment and that’s helping me not stress so much. Is your cycle regular now?

bluet1t · 02/02/2021 10:20

@Chloerobinson97 that's good. It's not like clockwork, as some people's are, but I've got a rough idea when it's coming.

I've been tracking it using the iPhone health app (which is fab!) and it does seem to be getting more and more regular, and I can pop any symptoms in there too which is helpful.

moomin85 · 02/02/2021 11:33

I'm in the same position! TTC for the first time for a few months before we'll have to put it on hold for our rescheduled (for the second time) wedding in April 2022. I took my last full packet in December, had my period as I usually would then didn't start taking them again. Glow app showed ovulation around 11th Jan.
According to the app AF due 25/26 Jan but nothing as of yet. An early test and one on Thursday last week were both negative so now just hanging on to test again after I'm over a week late but not expecting a BFP.
I've been feeling pretty tired and emotional over the last couple of day so hopefully AF is on the way. I'm not even bothered if we're not successful this month, I just want my cycle to start again rather than being in limbo!

Dalmxo · 07/02/2021 09:37

I ended up having first period after 43 days. Now into second cycle to see if it arrives sooner / to see if I can notice a pattern for ovulation etc. Would love to be actively trying from May, be great to know when ovulating instead of this unknown feeling after DTD!

I'm glad someone made a post about this, as towards the end of the year me and hubby are going to start a family, been married for two years in June and been together for 7years this year. Joined mumsnet for information and ive learnt so much, just excited to get started Grin and reading about coming of the pill and when to expect my period after the withdrawl bleed ect
