TTC plus size?

ttc97 · 24/08/2020 20:26

Hi lovelies..
just scrolling through Mumsnet as usual 😂🙈 and one thing has come to mind...
Is anybody else classed as 'plus size' and TTC currently?

I'm a size 20-22 in some clothes, and am trying to make a conscious effort to eat healthier etc to make TTC and falling pregnant a little easier for me.
I was just wondering if anybody else is in / has been in the same boat? If so, how long it took to fall pregnant etc etc.

I'm more worried about not looking 'pregnant' or having a nice little bump when the time finally comes 😂🙈🤷🏼‍♀️ these things play on my mind!

Xx

@DontFadeAway Very blessed, i hope you have a safe and healthy 9 months xx

Baker0104 · 04/09/2020 14:18

Hiya, can I jump on too please?

It's my first month ttc this month and I'm so excited and nervous! I'm overweight, my bmi is 43 so well over! I'm really hoping it doesn't take too long. My best friend has had 3 pregnancies whilst overweight and they all went well so that gives me a lot of hope 😊 x

ttc97 · 04/09/2020 14:53

Hey to all the newbies! 👋🏼

Just thinking out loud.. I've just caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror whilst doing the housework and I've just suddenly got so tearful and upset with the way I look 😭 I can't imagine for the life of me, having any kind of baby bump at all.. and all I ever wanted was to have a lovely little bump when I'm pregnant 💔
I then decided to google it.. and I've seen people talking about plus size pregnant women having a B belly bump...? Have any of you seen about this or experienced it?
I've got a bit of an overhang - or what I like to call my pouch 😂🤦🏼‍♀️ and I'm just so nervous now.. it makes me feel really upset 😞 anybody else feel like they may never have that lovely pregnancy bump??
For reference I'm a size 20-22 xx

@ttc97 oh yes I’m worried as would love that perfect pregnancy bump and to see that I was showing when I get to 12 weeks or whatever the norm is. But I don’t think people will be able to see until I’m really pregnant that I’m not just fat! Also I’m quite conscious that when I tell people I’m pregnant that they are going to stare at my stomach and think I can’t see a baby just a fat belly. Is it’s safe/likely to lose weight through healthy eating when your pregnant? No starving myself or fad diets just continuing to eat as healthy as possible?

ttc97 · 04/09/2020 16:34

@Muda exactly the same fears as me, it's awful thinking that people might just think 'is she pregnant or just on the big side..' it scares me so much to think I might not ever look pregnant 😭

@ttc97 I’m over the moon to be pregnant though and will probably won’t have a cute bump but hopefully I’ll still rock some outfits and when I feel like I’m showing will try and wear things that aren’t so baggy!

Baker0104 · 05/09/2020 09:40

@ttc97 I know exactly what you mean! I already carry a lot of my weight on my tummy so I sometimes get the 'is she pregnant or fat?' look. Not gonna lie sometimes that's a bit crushing cause I'm like... Nope just fat! 😂 It'll be interesting to see how our bodies look when pregnant, I know a couple of friends who have been overweight when pregnant and they've said only when they looked back at pictures did they see their bump x

Fainey · 07/09/2020 09:48

Hi, I'd like to jump on please! Smile

I'm size 20, BMI is 35. I have just had my implant removed a week ago so will be ttc as soon as AF arrives and I can track my cycle.

I lost myself in a bit of a rabbit hole of how terrible it is to be overweight and pregnant (thanks Google) so it will be nice to share the experience with people in the same position and hear some positives! x

ttc97 · 07/09/2020 10:09

@Fainey welcome to the thread! Happy to have you here 💓 I'm hoping we can al help and support each other through this exciting but scary time! TTC is a battle but we will get there 💪🏽

Hi @Fainey ! Morning everyone. I was just wondering if anyone else had an issue with periods when coming off the pill? I was on the mini pill for 10 years, was prescribed Yasmin for acne which I was on for 5 years (with monthly withdrawal bleeds) then back on the mini pill for the past 18 months. I came off it 4 weeks ago and despite really awful cramps and sore boobs, no period at all! I know it can take a while for things to settle down but just wondering if anyone else experienced this, most people seem to have got their period within 2-4 weeks of coming off. Took a pregnancy test just to make sure and it’s negative, so not that! Thanks :)

Fainey · 18/09/2020 11:13

Hi! How is everyone doing?

@CharityRoyall I don't have experience of coming of the pill, but I have just had my implant removed and I'm waiting for first AF. It seems it can be really quick for some and then take months for other so I guess it's a waiting game. Bit frustrating though because I can't read my body at the moment it's all over the place!

Hello, hoping I can join in. I’m hoping to lose weight whilst TTC as I’m so worried this is what’s stopping us. I don’t know my weight, but I know I’ll have a bmi of over 35. I’m actually in 12-14 clothes which won’t make sense but I know I weigh heavy.

I know we can’t get ivf until bmi is under 30 so I’m hoping that by the year I’ll be under there. Husband is going to do the weigh ins for me (I can’t face it) and I’m going to reduce carbs. Plan is to start from October. Clean slate!

Franny133 · 18/09/2020 20:07

Hello everyone, I hope you don't mind me jumping on too 😁. I've had a read through the thread and it's so reassuring to see people in the same boat. I've done the one thing you shouldn't do in these situations and Googled (whoops), needless to say it started making me panic a bit about being overweight TTC. I'm currently between a size 18-20 and at the heaviest I've ever been, I'm 30 and partner is 38 going on 39 so I've definitely been worried about the weight/age factor but we're currently on our first cycle and excited to see what happens. I started eating healthier and getting some exercise in to try and drop a bit of weight but keep slipping, I like food too much!

I'm also quite upset at the prospect of not showing until later in pregnancy when it happens, I had a bit of a cry about it not too long ago but at the end of the day all I really care about is having a healthy pregnancy with all the other experiences that go with it and a healthy baby at the end of it.

Sending out good vibes to all you lovelies TTC and for God sake don't Google anything 😂

SamanthaF1233 · 18/09/2020 21:10

I jumped on at the beginning of the thread and would maybe like to offer some reassurance about having a bump. Here I am at 33 weeks first pregnancy. For reference I am near around 16 and a half stone here and the dress I'm wearing is an 18/20. If you felt my stomach you could feel lower down where it was my stomach pouch if you like but the rest was all bump! I did gain some wonderful love handles but I thought screw it I'll embrace this bump. I'm currently pregnant again 16 weeks and around the same weight and at the present moment I look like I've been eaten to many pies Grin but by 20 weeks there wasnt mistaking I was pregnant. Good luck to all those trying!Flowers

I'm very happy to find this thread! I'm trying to conceive through IUI at the moment (at a private clinic, in a same sex couple so not eligible on NHS!). We've had our fair share of shut downs because of my weight... initially the sonographer couldn't find my ovaries and said this was because of my BMI. This prevented us starting treatment which really spurred me on. I also know that if IUI doesn't work and we have to move on to IVF I will have to get my BMI down to 35. My BMI was 42 when we started and I've now got it down to 36.5, so almost there. so nice to hear that lots of people are in the same boat!

Babba2801 · 19/09/2020 16:34

Hey im a size 18-20 (BMI 44) im currently 21 weeks pregnant, it only took me maybe 2-3 months to conceive. I used to worry I wouldnt get a bump until the end or feel kicks or anything but ive looked pregnant since about 14 weeks and felt kicks from 18 weeks even tho its my 1st and my placenta is at the front so ive been pleasantly surprised!

Only thing i would mention is next time I plan another I WILL definitely make sure ive lost some weight. My hospital have made a pretty big deal over me having a BMI over 40 and ive been fat shamed and cried after appointments etc because of the way they've made me feel and leaving me with limited delivery options despite me having perfect bloods and blood pressure etc throughout Sad

Lizzie94 · 24/11/2020 17:50

Hi ladies!
Hope you don't mind me jumping in the chat too. So reassuring reading the positive posts and also nice to know I'm not alone in being plus size ttc worries.
I'm currently a 20/22, I'm a postie so I have an active job and I'm 26 so have age on my side. I've always been known as 'the mum' with my friends, but now actually want to be a mum. Me and my fiancé are on month 2 now and I'm coming to the end of the 2ww. I've been doing ovulation tests and found out that I ovulate later, meaning I have a short lateal faze. I'm hoping it won't negatively affect ttc. Do any of you ladies have a short lateal faze?

Are the hospital still being really bad with fat shaming etc? I found out last week that I'm pregnant so I'm now 5 weeks and km just dreading the lectures I'm going to get from the doctors and midwife! I wasn't planning on being this weight, in fact I was trying to loose some, but somehow managed to conceive the first month so that put an end to that plan! I'm normally quite tough skinned but I'm so bloody emotional at the mo! 😂

I'd love to join in
I'm size 14/16 TTC baby number 1 cycle 3! Lost 2 stone this year to become healthier to conceive. Taking vitamins too.
Baby dust to all xxx

Pregh · 24/11/2020 22:22

Just read this thread full of lovely ladies! There's so much negativity associated with what we look like... overweight or not, we should still love our bodies and thank them for all they do for us!
I am size 18-20, ages 33, getting better at appreciating myself! I was fortunate - after 1 year of TTC we got referred to a lovely fertility nurse at Epsom hospital. She booked us in all of the needed investigations and tests, and only mentioned the higher bmi when she mentioned IVF- which we'd need if something came up with the tests. Other than that, she was supportive and nice! As a doctor should be..in such sensitive situation.
Due to covid and lockdown, it took us 10months to get all the tests and results, but we now know we're both healthy! It's been almost 2 years of TTC now but we just need to be patient and keep going...also she said that on average it takes 18months to conceive, it just depends on what data you're looking at..so i guess we're slightly longer than average..but it only takes one lucky sperm so who cares. New month, new chance!
Good luck to all of us 💕

Hello all! Happy new year. So excited to say I'm
Getting my implant removed next week! Can't wait to get the ball rolling!

Pipperleen · 21/01/2021 18:05

Aw, had to share an update too - just looked back and posted when I was 38 weeks pregnant.
Baby was 15 days late and still didn’t want to come out. Had an induction in the end, and she’s about 3 and a half months now. She’s an absolute joy.
Best wishes to everyone TTC, I hope 2021 is your year x

andpeggy1 · 21/01/2021 20:07

@Pipperleen that's lovely news! Congratulations x

andpeggy1 · 21/01/2021 20:12

@Pipperleen sorry sent too soon. How were you treated during labour? How have you and little one been getting on? What's her name?
